I always appreciate Joe Carroll's take. It is such a shame that his multi-gravity testing facility hasn't been taken up by any of these companies that are planning space stations. I would think being able to experience not only microgravity but also moon and mars level gravity would be a good customer experience differenciator for tourism that one of them would have jumped on it.

great talk. Robert makes a good point about deltaV requirements for reaching the surface of Mars considering you can aerobrake. Solar sails pushed by laser array would be another great way to get payloads there since you can use the sail as a parachute, like a giant shimmering silver dandelion seed :)

Thank you for informing people about Konstantin Tsiolkovsky's ideas. I lived in Kaluga between 1975 and 1987, and still consider Kaluga my home town, even though I will probably never go back there. Kaluga has a large space museum and a home-museum where Tsiolkovsky lived and worked on his models and ideas. It is sad that great theoretical ideas of Russian Cosmism were in such a great contrast with the brutality of Russia's Civil War in 1917-1922, Stalin's Purges in late 1930s, and even more so now.
