The Bible supports infant baptism. ACTS 1: ⁴ (Jesus) commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father... ⁵ ...John truly BAPTIZED with water, but ye shall be BAPTIZED with the Holy Spirit not many days hence. ACTS 2:4 ...they were all FILLED with the Holy Spirit... So, being FILLED with the Holy Spirit is the same as being BAPTIZED with the Holy Spirit. LUKE 1:15 ...(John) shall be FILLED with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. John the baptist was BAPTIZED with the Holy Spirit while a developing infant in his mother's womb. 1 CORINTHIANS 10:2 ...ALL were BAPTIZED unto Moses in the cloud & in the sea. ALL includes the infants. This was an OT event, but the OT never refers to it as baptism. Since the NT does refer to it as baptism, that makes it an example for NT/Christian baptism. So, babies can be baptized. If you aren't convinced by these 2 examples, remember that nowhere in the Bible does it say that infants should NOT be baptized. So the Biblical score is 2 - 0 in favor of baptizing babies. But what about... ACTS 2:38 Then Peter said to them: “Repent. And let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, & you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." If ACTS 2:38 is universally formulaic, then the baptismal steps are always: (1) repent (2) be baptized in water (3) receive/be baptized (in/with/by)/be filled (with/by) the Holy Spirit ACTS 10: ⁴⁴ While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them which heard the word. (That's step 3; BEFORE any mention of steps 1 or 2.) ⁴⁵ And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit. (So step 3 happened BEFORE any mention of steps 1 or 2.) ⁴⁶ For they heard them speak with tongues, & magnify God. Then answered Peter: (The same Peter that preached the supposed baptismal formulaic steps of ACTS 2:38) ⁴⁷ "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Spirit as well as we?" (That's step 2 AFTER step 3. Still no mention of step 1.) ⁴⁸ And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. (Totally ignoring the supposed universal formula of baptismal steps that he had preached in ACTS 2:38.) Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. In light of ACTS 10:44 - 48, we can only conclude that the baptismal steps given in ACTS 2:38 were NOT UNIVERSALLY FORMULAIC; but were, at best, the steps that would be the usual formula for adult converts; but NOT the ONLY acceptable pattern or sequence of events. So we shouldn't be surprised that the baptism of John the baptist in/with/by the Holy Spirit while in his mother's womb did NOT follow the obviously optional formula of ACTS 2:38.
