This scene basically encapsulates everything that led up to it. It explains the significance of the rabbits at the beginning (with the blue and yellow rabbit being a reference to the moon and the night sky), the lighthouses, even the platypus, but most importantly, it tells us why Johnny wants to go to the moon. For Johnny, it was never about being an astronaut. He couldn't remember this because of the beta blockers he took after his brother's death, but Johnny promised that if he and River ever got lost or separated, they would meet on the moon. Johnny doesn't want to be an astronaut. He wants to see his late wife again one more time before he dies. It also adds a bit of meaning to the scene later on when Johnny completes his piano song. The song is titled To the Moon, with the original title in the real world being For River. For Johnny, To the Moon was always For River.

Especially since the meaning behind going to the moon was literally being with River again. So yes, he’ll only have one brother but there won’t be another River. His source of happiness was River.

I like to think that Eva wasn't talking about meeting someone else, but actually hinting at John being able to meet River again at a different point in his life. That is what she was planning after all.

I played the every part of this series (yes, it is not only "To The Moon," but the whole series of games). Nice! I know that feeling, when you experience such a great story (not only in games), and you have that urge to make something similarly beautiful too. How is your career?

@Oz I was thinking the same when I played it, that's why I felt a bit... strange ending that game. Well, it was Johnny's choice, and we must respect it, but hey, all that memories were so beautiful, even if it was so sad ! How he loved her and she loved him... was so beautiful. But in fact, the point was that he couldn''t understand her. Why was she making rabbits again and again ? What about the footbag, the platypus ? Why did she love this lighthouse so much that she prefered die than let it alone ? Thanks to Sigmund, he remembered it. And all the memories aren't away. After they went to the moon, they married, they built the house, all memories after that are the same. Only the fact that Joey's here changed, if I remember well, and the fact he remembered his first meeting with River (then he understands her, and she's not trying to make him remember again and again). Something else : letters. I'm pretty sure that in his fake reality, the one he wrotes to was River. It's true that maybe they could just save Joey, then he could remember the first meeting with River. But this way, they wouldn't have gone to the moon... that was Johnny's dream. So... I probably agree with you, and that's why I love that Finding Paradise is just about this point : having regrets in reality, or having no regrets in a dream. If you didn't play it, really just do it. I prefered To the moon for the incredible story and feelings, making me cry again and again, because it talks about things that really touch my heart, but Finding Paradise is a beautiful game too Still I'm happy for Johnny (even if he doesn't exist), because he never forget River even in his fake reality, and in a way kept his promise. River get lost, so he regrouped to the moon with her

It wasn't false memories, he got to imagine a life where nothing made him forget their first meeting. And his mind grabbed onto it like it was gold, and the life he imagined himself living was all striving to meet up with River again like he promised. It's a beautiful glimpse into what motivates him. In reality, River always tried to make him remember their first meeting and the life he had before, and it hurt her not being able to help him. This treatment helped him.

River died wanting John to remember, but she had no way of achieving it herself. Sigmund Corp basically did the job for her. Sure he had false memories, but he regained the one which was most important, and in the process he was able to understand her in a way he couldn't in real life.

@@localbasedfairy2248 Yea, I played the every part of this series (yes, it is not only "To The Moon," but the whole series of games), I played "To The Moon" years ago, watched MULTIPLE people's gameplays of it and that part gets me every time.

I also have a question . As Eva let Joey live in John's alternative memory, that means John did'nt take the beta blockers. So he should have remembered this first meeting. So the next year both John and River will get here and meet again but why it seems like John and River did not see each other after Eva sent River away until they were at NASA

And that was motivation for them to go to NASA.

I see your point, if John wanted to meet River sooner so the memory will be like that. But rather than meeting in the festival, he could decided to meet River on the moon right? Maybe, because the talking under the moon is so important to him.

Eva moved River away to make motivation for John to go to the moon as the contract. It a happy ending in the dream, but real life is so sad, their promise is forever oblivious.

The scene was horrifying for me because it was fake. In reality, Johnny never found out about their first meeting, and they lived the rest of their lives, with what, in my opinion, was a mostly broken relationship. Johnny might feel better, but that's never going to change what actually happened.
