Why is the engine like a candy paint scheme

As a career firefighter since 1988 and a district chief since 2014 I can assure you that “ standing “ on the “Q” does absolutely nothing. Studies have shown that people said they believed that the sound “ noise” they heard was a piece of industrial machinery and not a fire truck. Second thing is that with today’s newer vehicles and the sound deadening people just don’t hear you. Third is your following a vehicle with your siren on at 40 mph you already outran your siren. The WON’T hear you at all. Now that talk about a intersection with traffic in front of the approaching apparatus. Emergency vehicles ARE NOT PERMITTED TO PUSH YOU THROUGH A RED SIGNAL. As a civilian you DO NOT have to put yourself in danger and go throw a red traffic signal to make way for an emergency vehicle. My department has added several forward facing lights including two rows in the front bumper alone. ( on our engines and trucks) Doing this we have noticed people getting out of the way much sooner than with the siren screaming and the recommended lighting. I drive a 2023 Chevy Tahoe and we have added more lights in the grille and 4 flush mounted lights on the front bumper. These added lights have had a positive impact on vehicles yielding way before we even approach them. I bet it. The “Q” is cool but it is never used the way it was meant to be used.
