Lori Holt is the original creator of design board. Using corebord, batting, flannel (optional) and binding, you can make a deisgn board. Useful for carrying quilt block pieces from one area to anotherto keep them in the correct order. The main difference in this method is the use of glue or sewing machine rather than a glue gun.

Using pot holders for small travelling cases and for hanging tea towels. You can make a quilted square to use instead of pot holder and make the size you want. Insulbrite is not required as the square will not be used as a pot holder.

Video shows how to complete a thread catcher with an equilateral triangle template. It also shows how to make the template using the origami mathod. The paper used was 10 x 8 inches. It does not have to be square as the triangle is angled so does not have to be as tall as it is wide.

This is so nice for people in memory care as well. My MIL had a horrible bib that was put on her when dining. It was a lovely place to live but something like this would have been so nice. I’d like to make them for people in assisted living to donate.
Ideal when I’m eating spaghetti or chilli. Too!
Good for any adult.
Are you using both batting and flannel or just one? Great video ❗️
I used just batting for the video but both would give a thicker base.
Ah I never thought about sewing the binding on. I will have to give that a try. I was at quilt shop this weekend and a woman had glued Velcro 3/4 inch loop along the edges on the backside. She had 1.5 inch Velcro hook pieces that she used to join boards together. I thought it was interesting. She was working on very large blocks
Great idea. Make several bords, attach them. place one lst board upside dowm so the flannel touches the block and place an elastic band around them all to transport.
You lost your shoulder holster! Congrats!
If using corrugated cardboard, maybe make a double layer for more stability. Super inexpensive.🫶
Good observation!
You are so sweet & interesting. Sure video! I used glue to attack my binding on my first design board & washi tape thereafter. I love your idea of sewing the binding on! How clever & so easy. THANK YOU🫶
Glad you enjoyed it. You might want to check out my other videos.
Thank You for Your tutorial and Your quick wit jokes 😊 Here is one for You from Southern MD .... Why don't shrimp share their food ❓ ...... Because their Shellfish😅😊😂
Glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed your joke.
This is great! Thank you for a great video
Thanks for watching.
I just discovered your channel. I love the idea of using ribbon for the edges. I was wondering….was the ribbon a wired ribbon? If so, did you removed the wire or leave it in? Loved the video as well. Thanks and Happy Sewing
It is wired ribbon and I left it in. It is not near the needle so is not harmful.
I love all of your options. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas! ❤
You are welcome.
Great idea to sew these boards, I used steam a seam last time and a hot iron, it was a bit fiddley, but far better than hot glue! I’ve got lots of 30wt threads in various colours, will be perfect for sewing these. Thanks for the idea 😊
Sewing makes a tidy edge and it is easier.
Wow, what great ideas on different ways to do the binding. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Thanks for watching!
So do you leave raw edges on binding?
No, I make the binding the same way as I would for a quilt. Fold in half, then fold each side in toward the center meet at the center.
Yes, they are folded into don't show.
Thank you for all of the great ideas and advice. I appreciate all of the variations and sizes, but all of them are still lightweight and portable 🤗❣️ However I am curious if I could use a piece of Pellon super stiff Peltex one sided fusible interfacing…..fuse the batting to it, add the flannel, and it’s easy to sew through. Hmmmm, may have to try that 🤔🤔
I have not used that type of Pellon so am not sure.
@@isabellemason1447 yeah, I only used it a couple times to make rigid bags so me either 😆🤣
Update-after watching your tutorial I bought some core board last Saturday to make some of these. The only “tweak” that I tried, because for some reason it was stuck in my head was to use a remnant of one sided fusible Pellon thermolam plus, after cutting a few shapes I simply placed a piece of muslin over the Pellon Thermoplam and ironed it to the board-no glue, no mess, and it’s held together well. I will say it did seem a wee bit thin so I simply ironed a second piece on top and now I am in the process of binding the 7 various shaped boards that I have been working on!! As I was working on this I have wondered if it would work “better” to I use a 2 sided fusible Pellon Thermoplam so that the bottom layer is the thermoplam and the top layer is leftover batting 🤔🤔 Anyways, thank you again for your inspiring and helpful video 🤗❣️
Many wise words , thankyou , will try for sure
Enjoy and customize.
Love this sew down method
Me, too!
New subscriber from Tennessee. Thank you for your ideas, jokes, and sharing❤
You are so welcome!
Love all of the ideas. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I like the “sewing it down” idea. I made a few for myself and used tic rac but I’ll try the sewing. Thanks.
Great idea! I'm so over getting burned by messy hot glue.
You and me both!
Great video. Very nice. Thank you. I hated the glue gun method.
The board is not firm and sews easily.
Great ideas...thank you.
Glad you like them!
Great ideas! Thank you ❤
Glad you liked them.
GREAT IDEAS…..THANK YOU SEW MUCH ……I PLAN TO MAKE SEVERAL 👩🏻🎨🐑
Have fun!
I love this idea, and the one you made with ribbon.
I like that one the best, also.
So fun!!! 🥰❤️😀
They are fun to make and to display.
I love the painters canvas idea the best! It's a 2 for 1 use. Love your variety of ideas! 🎉
Thanks so much! 😊
Great idea using ribbon! 😊
Saves time.
Just found you! Love your way of making the boards. Makes these much easier to do. It is very expensive to buy them. Looking forward to more videos. 😊
Glad you like them!
Very clever ideas! I’ll try them!
Thanks.
i would love to see how you do this on sewing machine
I slide the board with batting (and flannet, if you wish) under the needle and sew as usual. I set a larger stitch thaN i USE TO SEW FABRIC.
@@isabellemason1447I love the idea of sewing them. I made several using my glue gun a few years ago. What kind of needle did you use and what stitch length, if I may ask? You sewed through the foam board itself? Thanks.
Hello Isabelle. Just came upon your channel. Noticed that you have a recent video. Hope to see more of you. Love to follow my fellow Canadans.
Glad that you enjoyed the video. I plan on posting one a month.
😂I have several dates with “Jack the Ripper” weekly too! ❤ thanks for the variety of small board options!
You are welcome.
Lori Holt, the fabric designer, was the gal you were thinking of. Thanks so much for your informational video. You gave us alternatives that we can use.
Thanks. I'm embarrassed that I was suddenly unsure of her name because I certainly knew who devised the board idea.
Love your energy and style. Just discovered your channel. So glad I found you. 😊
Thank you.
Great tutorial. I have made some a few years ago but I think sewing them will be quicker. Love the frame ideal. I think the fames turned upside down, would be good way to keep embroidery or hexes together, when stitching. Just cover it with a pretty fabric.
I think so too!
Thank you for the tutorial. I love the idea of using pretty ribbon. Seems like that’s the easier option.
It really is!
This is great! I am new to quilting so this is great for me
Glad it was helpful!
Good idea. Thanks for the tutorial. ❤
You are so welcome!
Thanks for this tutorial. It was very helpful.
Glad to hear that!
Happy to see without pen, pencil, ruler, pins BLA BLA. Thank you 👍
You are welcome.
Easy to watch. Thank you
Thanks for watching.
Very adorable!!... Added to my every growing 'to do' list❤
These are fun to make.
Great suggestions for different binding options, I would say my favorite is the wider binding and securing with a decorative stitch❤.
The decorative stitch makes a nice finish.
Thank you, Isabelle! Really helpful information.
Glad you found it useful.
Thank you for the great information!
That looks easy and beautiful. My favorite kind of blocks.
Great job Isabelle.
Thank you 😊
