Dr. Barbara Sharief is running for Florida State Senate District 35. Barbara is a self-made health care entrepreneur and small business owner who has been serving her community for nearly three decades. She was the first African American woman to serve as Broward County Mayor and city and county commissioner. She also served as president of the Florida Association of Counties, where she advocated for all 67 counties in the state of Florida.

Barbara is running for an open, newly created State Senate seat in District 35. She has represented Miramar and Pembroke Pines, which contain 59% of the population of District 35, for over a decade. Additionally, Barbara served Weston and Southwest Ranches, another 11% of the District 35 residents, in the beginning of her service as a Broward County Commissioner.
