Brompton Night Ride and thoughts on my lights, the B&M IQ-X
I love to add a spontaneous little tour to things I do by bike, like grocery shopping or bringing out trash. Even though it was quite cold that evening, I ended up being outside for an hour. This was also a nice occasion for reviewing my bike light, which is the dynamo-powered Busch & Müller IQ-X with 100 Lux of brightness. Please note that I have bought this light on my own, and I am in no affiliation with the manufacturer.
Do you also sometimes combine little necessary trips by bike with a fun detour? Maybe not in such a cold.
If you have made it to the abandoned beer bottles, you have also made to where my feet were quite cold.
Sorry for that shaking in some shots. In the future, I might get a better mount for my phone or an Action Cam. I am not sure though. Perhaps the dark is too much too handle, even for Action Cams.
Music is from the UA-cam Audio Library: Spaghetti Eastern by John Patitucci.

On Fire for a Tire - combining Brompton and train for little (shopping) trips
Переглядів 1 тис.19 годин тому
This little adventure made me appreciate the convenience of the Brompton even more: It can be combined with the local train to get to remote places around a big city while avoiding to pay the bicycle fare for normal bicycles. I used this convenience to get some new tires for one of my other bikes. Somebody put them for sale brand-new but for half of the price, because this person had bought the...
The Less Is More Bicycle - an idea and a ride

Fancy or common, cheap or expensive, new or old - doesn't matter. Most important is that you enjoy your bike. But still, I feel like sometimes less is more. What do you think? And in the end I want to say that probably I got really lucky, catching a unique custom vintage bike like this, that was put together in such a lovely way. But it had been online for quite some time... By the way, I just ...
My Daily Commute on a Brompton - Fog Edition
Переглядів 2,9 тис.21 день тому
I split my work way between local train and bike. This gives me the possibility to have some exercise and fresh air. At the same time I can avoid the mostly crammed subway. A bonus is the beauty of the area I am passing on my Brompton. That's why today I want to share some impressions of it on a foggy day in October. Sorry for the voice-over quality that sounds like I am talking through a can t...
👋👍
Sehr schönes einfaches Video. Reicht völlig aus. 👍
That cake sent me to the kitchen for a slice of my own. That was a lot of pressure to make the train.
Yes, I should have also checked the train shedules for going back ^^
Lovely video. An inspiration in many ways.
Impressed with the front light it makes a difference
Yes, the stock light is like a candle in front of the bike compared to it.
Junge! Das war einfach Toll! I LOVE my Brompton too. Meine Mutter kam aus Ulm, aber Ich bin Ami, in Miami Florida geboren und aufgewachsen... so my German is not the best, but your English "ist ausgezeichnet"! And yes, the film Perfect Days is very special indeed, saw it here in San Francisco, where I live for 40 years. Mach weiter und mach's gut! 😄
Wow, thank you so much and "liebe Grüße" to San Francisco! Ich wünsche dir immer eine gute Fahrt auf dem Brompton. 🚲🫶
Nice video. The framing is perfect. I'm trying to find that sweet angle when filming my rides. What's your secret to get your shoots. I plan to do a light review too. I do a weekly 10 miles a night so lighting is key. Thanks for sharing
Thank you, I am using a handlebar mount (Ram Mount 🐏) but this gets shaky quickly. Otherwise, I film with the phone in one hand, when I am not going too fast and the streets are not too busy. And yes, a good bike light is crucial, especially during the dark season!
Hi! I don't think you need me to say that, but that bike is a beauty! Thank you for posting videos of yourself biking and taking the metro at such lovely places, so I can live vicariously through you =)
Nice video 👍🏽. Had a test ride of the T line around the Munich Brompton junction store some weeks ago. Definitely a brilliant bike and good riding experience.
Thank you. The T-Line must be so light compared to the C-Line. 🪶
Nice video!
Thank you :) Editing the video was a lot of fun. And if you like, that makes me even happier.
Very atmospheric ride, espeically the trains!🚅🌃
I use wool socks up to 1 C and I put another sock over the first sock during freezing temperatures. Of course I have boots that are 1 seize bigger then my normal shoes. Wool is a good isolating natural material that has 1 advantage over other fabric > it is still warm even when the socks are wet. I also use lace up boots with a layer of Thinsulate fabric inside, keeping feet warm. I notice you wear knitted gloves, these gloves do not shield your hands from the cold wind. I advise you buy gloves with windproof fabric on the outside. BTW what is that beautiful lit church I see in 2 scenes? I can not recall it when I visited München (Munich in German for the viewers that do not speak German). But I stayed in a hotel in Obersendling and I cycled to the center, Olympia Park (I love the 70's architecture) and the fair (Messe) in East München.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with winter gear for cycling! I will consider your recommendations for the sake of my hands and feet. ^^ The churches we can see in the video are Mariahilfkirche of Au and Heilig-Kreuz Kirche of Giesing (in order of appearance).

"Probably Riding" vibe right there
Probably a big inspiration for me 🚲🫶
Hey, CycGeist, I recognize your workplace thanks to the sliding tubes in the central hall. 12:00 in the video.

I agree with you. 👍

Just found your channel and have subscribed. I also recently got a Brompton (I'm currently on their subscription plan but will buy my own bike in the new year) for 'little adventures' just like yours. I was actually planning to go on one this morning, but we had snow overnight, and I'm not a confident cyclist, so that trip (and video) has had to be postponed. But it's the best fun bike I've ever owned.
Thank you, and welcome to the channel! What Brompton model did you get? I can totally relate to the postponing. Rather choose some safer road conditions for a video trip.
@@cycgeist Hi, I got a 6-speed C Line in black, which I think accounts for most of the subscription Bromptons now. I shall probably get the same when I buy, though maybe in a slightly more exciting colour, adding a rack w/EZ wheels and a 44T main ring. Unfortunately you're not allowed to modify the lease bikes!
I see, thanks for your reply. Your plans sound very good! Especially the rack is so convenient for moving the Brompton around.
What’s the fattest tyre that can be fitted on a Brompton? And do you know anyone that has Don a review on them ? Thanks take care .
I think 35 mm wide tires like the Schwalbe Marathon Racer already are the limit for the stock 16" Brompton. No fatties fit fine. And there is a review of the Marathon Efficiency I have bought in this video on bicyclerollingresistance.com. They also have a review of the Marathon Racer I have on my Brompton. Even though the Racer is reviewed as 28" version there, the Brompton version should be similar in terms of rolling resistance and puncture protection. Hope that helps.
I also commute by Brompton, but the roads I take are all in a crowded city. What a lovely place you’ve found to ride!
@@PixelPedalsOfTomakomai Thank you. I would love to take my Brompton to Japan one day!
@@PixelPedalsOfTomakomai I like your videos, too. Interesting to see, that you use the insta360 go 3s. I might get this one in the future as well. 🤔
@@cycgeist Thank you for your kind attention. The GO 3S is more convenient than an iPhone for shooting POV riding videos. You’re always welcome to visit Japan 😊
Awesome commute and video! Loved the ride along. How long is the ride? It looks long lol
Thank you so much. The ride is around 15 to 25 min, depending on mood and pace. It is around 6 kilometers. In the video I really took my time to share not only the route but also the experience of my commute as good as possible.
What a beautiful area! I bet the commute is the best part of your workday! 😀 And folding bicycles are awesome! I ride a Pacto folder myself
Thank you. 🙂 Yes, it is the best part or at least a good lower bound for what the day brings. If the work day is great, I also have a nice ride. If the work day is not the great, I _at least_ have a nice ride. 😃
What a beautiful commute! Already subscribed to the channel! Can’t wait to see more ❤
What mount do you use for your Garmin? Is that just a rubber band that's holding on to the bars?
@@alvinukchannel1209 It is a Sigma cycling computer. Its mount is held by cable ties.
Love your videos - hope there’s many more to come! 🙂 I also live in Munich and am in the market for my first Brompton so I have two questions if you don’t mind: 1. are you happy with your Schwalbe Marathon Racers Tanwall? Any punctures yet? 2. How are you handling the weight of the CLine? Wound the PLine have been an option for you too?
Thank you so much!! I am planning some more, yes 😉 No punctures so far on the tanwall Racers (after around 800km). I am happy with them, but can’t compare them to other Brompton tires. What I have to say is that I got them in some very good deal and maybe wouldn‘t have bought them otherwise. I feel like some Brompton tires are really expensive, especially given how (not) much rubber you get for your money 😄 Regarding the weight, I would recommend trying to carry a bag with enough water bottles inside around to familiarize yourself with the weight. For me C-Line is okay to carry around for 1-3 min, then it becomes really heavy. I also really recommend the rack because of the additional two little rear wheels for pulling it behind me. Hope that helps.
What a beautiful ride. I only get to commute in the city among the cars and busses. This looks like paradise to me!
I also take my Brompton to Munich ! I will be there next week. Maybe I will see you !
Nice, do you use it for getting around during a trip?
@@cycgeist Exactly, yes. I will do my usual trip by ICE from Berlin, and use the Brompton around Munich to my company's office, the client's office, and maybe some rides for enjoyment 🙂
What an awesome, chill video. We get lots of fog in Central California too. I don’t ride here after daylight savings time because I don’t trust the crazy drivers a night. Your commute however seems so peaceful. Thanks for sharing!
@@BenContreras Thank you! I see, I would not do that either. To me it makes such a difference if I can enjoy the ride rather alone, separated from (car) drivers. So much more risk directly on the streets or on narrow sidewalks with lots of pedestrians and narrow bike lanes.
The video was so enjoyable, thank you for sharing. An easy watch with a lot of beautiful countryside. A treat.
@@taber247 That is so nice to hear and motivates me to produce more videos, thank you! 🤩
commuting to work by car: road rage, stress, fumes and noise commuting to work by bike: chill, cozy, healthy
Nice video, keep making this kind of commuting video!👍
@@jorgeperazza7019 Thank you very much! 😃 That is the plan.
awesome video i love chill bike rides like this ^_^
Nice video I'm retired now but remember when I had a 5-30 am Start at work and I cycled in it really set me up for the day . your English is very good I myself have a Brompton A line .
@@keithdainton6043 Thank you. Wow 5:30 is early, my respect that you used to cycle to work despite that.
I agree with the less is more/simplicity concept. For most rides at the moment I take my Brompton, but if I need to leave a bike somewhere where I don't want to worry about it I have my old mountain bike that I have owned for over 30 years. It is heavy and has nearly all of its original components. It is simple and robust and does exactly what I need it to do as a simple commuter bike That is another nice looking ride!
@@fishbert17 Wow, it is so nice to hear that you have had this bike for such a long time. What a trusty companion! And thank you. :)
Another really great video and ride. It’s always interesting to me how familiar different places in the world are.If I didn’t know better I would have thought you were riding through the University of Washington campus on the Burke Gilman Trail,in Seattle Washington. Bike theft here is rampant however. Thanks for sharing with us.
@@joesprague1464 Thank you for your comment. Very interesting to hear that it looks similar thousands of miles away. I can imagine it is nice to ride along the lake. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we are spared from bike thieves. 🔒🍀🚲
I recently got my first Brompton and have fallen in love with it. Your commute looks very beautiful and I totally appreciate why you would want that instead of sitting on a train. Thanks for sharing your commute!
Thank you so much 🥰 Enjoy your Brompton and I wish you always a safe ride!
Heeeeeyyyy!!!! Me too! 👊Congrats!!!!

I wonder about the great calm ride and maybe you wear a special chste belt for recording ?
Just my hand. Probably iPhone's "Action Mode" removed some shaking. I rode not too fast and very considerate to not drop the phone.
Well done with fine view. Which Version of the iPhone is used and did you keep noice cancelling on it ?
Thank you! iPhone 15 Pro was used. What do you mean by jeep anoice cancelling?
@@cycgeist sorry, i didn`take care of my autocorrect. Who made a keep to jeep
@@martinkiefer6733 ah okay, I did not use any noise cancelling. You can hear the original sound recorded by the iPhone itself. Later, I did the voice-over in a quiet room using the AirPods. Hope that answers your question. :)
What a beautiful commute to work. The ability to experience the countryside and nature, particularly after work must help to wind down. Good video 👍
@@martynlejeune5191 Indeed, it does. Thank you so much!
