Making Cannonball Sinkers from Old Boat Zincs

Using old boat zincs to make some cannonball sinkers and a couple more jigs. Also tried some miscellaneous wheel weights (don't recommend this, they did not melt except the two lead ones that were mixed in). Courteous Pilot Whales Yield Right of Way for Boat Trolling

School of pilot whales stop their journey and wait for us to troll by. Glad the whales are still observing the rules of the sea - things can get out of hand quick when the whale society breaks down.

    I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.

    Zinc is MUCH harder than lead, and it shrinks more on cooling so that's why the neck is breaking off right there. The mold needs to be a lot hotter to cast nearly pure zinc like anode blocks would be made from. Try alloying your zinc with 5% aluminum, you will get a very ductile and very fluid casting metal. It will be much easier on your tools and will fill out every little detail of your mold-so making sure your through-wires fit perfectly in the mold will be important.

    i think its cheaper to foil them. jig skins are kinda expensive.

      These are accurate valiant bvn300spj reels with 30lb braid on star plasma 2 rods for 200-500g jigs, jigs are around 150-300 grams this day

    Dude great lures I make same ones just in the smaller sizes. About the piece you cut . Dip the piece back into the pot to make it softer then you can cut it off with larger cutters then file it into a V.

    Thanks for trying the old boat zincs! I suspect that you got better action out of the flutter jigs you made this way, instead of using lead. As to the problem with your castings in the area of the "funnel," or sprue, try these steps, which have helped me when I'm pouring lead. 1. Preheat the area of the sprue for as long as you preheat the rest of the mold-or even longer. 2. Start your pour immediately after the preheat. 3. Overfill/overflow the mold twice as much as you did in this video. (4) Don't use small cutoff pliers to trim the cooled sprue! Instead, use a hacksaw or some other tool that won't essentially "tear" the metal in your castings. One last thing. Do yourself, your family, and your friends a favor: Wear an organic-vapor respirator when you work with this shit. It can kill you. Really. Gloves, primarily to prevent seious burns, are also a VERY good idea.

      @@boringfishingvideos4639 what weight and color jigs are good to use for black sea bass going on a boat in cape cod to slow pitch jig em

    • @boringfishingvideos4639
      @boringfishingvideos4639 Рік тому

      I don’t really know if the color even matters, slow pitch seems to work if fish are present. Weight is most important and depends on current and drift speed but I generally start around 1gram per foot of depth and adjust based on drift and current speed.
