The Barbarians by Paul Lazar and Jerry Lieblich | Prelude 2024
The Barbarians is a word-drunk satirical play exploring political rhetoric and the power of words on the world. With cartoonish wit and rambunctious edge, it asks: what if the President tried to declare war, but the words didn't work? Written by Jerry Lieblich and directed by Paul Lazar, it will premiere in February 2025 at LaMama.
The Barbarians is produced in association with Immediate Medium, and with support from the Venturous Theater Fund of the Tides Foundation.

Ornamentalism is a ritual that explores the gendered racialization of the Asian transmasculine body, using tattoo as a way to inscribe personal loss and collective histories onto the skin. Through the duration of this piece the audience is invited to witness the act of transforming the body as an act of adornment, adornment as transformation; and the ways in which the two respond to and rub up ...

CUNY, like Berkley, or full of anti-American idiot posing as morally superior "civil rights advocates" echo the same garbage as Amiri baraka, who encourages raping white women, their fathers, and splitting their mothers throats. So consider that when you are listening to these pseudo egg heads GONE WOKE

Thank you Frank. Thank you Philippe. I am a very big fan of "Melancolie des Dragons": A certain amount of ambiguity Does not reflect personal incapability J.R.R. Tolkien’s reality is just a different way of seeing the worlds we create in our minds The actors exhibited a high degree of respect for one another Though they didn’t always act in concert One wanted the attention of their heroine Then another did, yet never causing conflict Jealousy was never aroused The boys were creators, creating ingenuous devices with the sole purpose of delight There were no intellectual defects exposed Though their naivete was pronounced She took sincere interest in what they did and said She was at their level Did we, as audience, have a role to play in looking “down” at them as simpletons Were we being called upon to compare ourselves to this band of “metalheads”? They were defined by their clothes and by their dream of an amusement park They realized their dream and showed us and their heroine how they accomplished that They were achievers, doers, successes, humble, creative, childlike We do not see character defects: stubbornness, frustration, exhaustion, conflict No one seemed confused or vulnerable Singing the Scorpions song, “Still Loving You,” was a love serenade The love lacked the passion and urgency, yet it was love Passion was replaced with compassion The seven days they’d have to wait for the distributor cap gave them ample time Exploration of the possibilities of sharing their joys gradually unfolded with no urgency The boys seemed nearly incredulous that she would take an interest in their project Simplicity vs complexity is the challenge we are faced with Can we accept simplicity as profound and meaningful without complexity? Can we accept nuance and subtlety when they are not couched in complex ideas? Is philosophy valid when it is so simple it comes off as naïve and even quaint? Confidence: no fear of stumbling, mumbling or rambling The clarity evoked by their simplicity prevented any erosion of confidence The clarity evoked by the simplicity of her responses also gave the boys greater confidence to reveal their precious inventions This reminded me of the simplicity in the dialogue between Alice and the knight in “Through the Looking Glass,” as well as the tenderness that dialogue evoked Our heroine was careful with the boys the way Alice was careful with the knight She didn’t want to intimidate, she was clear, direct and ultrasimple in her responses to them She implicitly seemed to sense that they might not believe that she would share the idea of “worth” or “value” in their amusement park conception
