gamesux
There's another youtube channel I liked that has given some... rather questionable opinions. But I still trusted them for the most part and I was looking forward to playing this game sometime. Thank you, good sir, for doing the world a service and giving actual good reviews.
I loved it bar the savings system. A sequal would have been nice but it will never happen now
Ok while I agree with some of your points (Aftertouch sucks, especially with Sixaxis, Kai as a playable character sucks, constantly guarding bosses suck, turret sections suck), I disagree with other parts. More complicated combat actions fail, like guard counters and air combos, because they seem to only happen at random, but you never mentioned them. Also, do you ever use the dodge? You can actually string multiple combos together with the dodge and dodge attacks, and it's even possible to juggle enemies and combo attack multiple enemies at once. And yes, you actually CAN switch modes/stances while attacking. It's just REALLY awkward because stances are mapped to shoulder buttons and her combos are all 3 pieces so the combinations are extremely limited. Nariko's combat can go deeper than what you might think possible, if you're willing to explore it. Admittedly, the Heavenly Sword replacing her standard sword kind of cripples her though, as she loses some admittedly really good combos, especially her square, triangle combo, which actually possesses a guard break capability (yes, even on bosses, as evidenced when I fought Roach's pet), and not only that but it also acts as a launcher and allows you to set up juggles without needing to rely on the preset air combos. Not exactly something you'd notice from mashing the triangle button the entire game though. My overall point is, it tried to be ambitious but it didn't quite succeed, but it's not the dumpster fire you make it out to be. Still pretty close, though. But Bohan sucks. Flying Fox sucks. Whiptail sucks. And Roach sucks. Hammy acting isn't always a good thing. These guys come across like they've watched way too many badly dubbed kung fu movies and way too many Power Rangers episodes. In fact, Bohan tries entirely way too hard in every scene he's in, to the point of annoyance.
I understand where you're coming from, but I kind of disagree that it's not a dumpster fire. Nothing about it is good. When the majority of the games content is bad, it's extremely rare that the experience could somehow be greater than the sum of it's parts. If I ever give it another try, I'll try to get more out of the combat system, but I don't think it will sway my opinion that it's not worth playing.
Caliburn89 oh don't get me wrong, you're talking to someone who gave up on the game during Kai's Mission Kai is my biggest gripe about this game, and I agree with EVERYTHING you said about her, and the turret sections, and Aftertouch Aftertouch is flawed because it only works when it wants to And that's without crippling it with default motion controls Nariko though felt more like a disappointment than a legit failure She seems to cater to the idea that female protagonists can't be on the same level combat wise as their male counterparts But then you characters like Juliet Starling, Nilin and Bayonetta, characters you'll get more out of if you aren't just continuously serving every enemy the same 3 piece value meal combo I think the limitations in Nariko's combat stem from her not being the sole focus of the game, a let down for me as I would have been far less excited for it had I known how bad Kai and Aftertouch were beforehand All the more reason they didn't belong in the game Variety doesn't work in hack and slash any more than it does in a platformer I'm a combo fiend, I'm all about the combat, I didn't sign up for Kai and Aftertouch Get rid of that, polish Nariko's combat, they could have had a diamond on their hands But they ended up with a gold covered turd I can't hate on the game, because it pisses me off, but not enough to hate it What pisses me off about Heavenly Sword most is not what we got but what could have been Sorry about the rant, I get a bit too into things
I hate you. You're only allowed to suffer during this "boss" "fight". You're breaking the intended design! I'm definitely doing this if I play through Dark Souls again.
I know dude, I uploaded this for a friend. By far the best way to get through this. Glad I watched that Speedrun, cause I'm never going back to the "real" way to do it.
I definitely have this cutscene to look forward to as I play XD
It's like 15 minutes in.
Act 0 I persume?
Well, Act 1, Act 0 is basically a Steam Demo.
great TV - sony ftw
only the greatest game
Joseph carried the whole thing
I thought it was over when he started shooting the cops again lmao
Overcome by some kind of mania.
You are right this game is shit
I'm really annoyed that I found your channel after you've seemingly stopped... I always looked at this game as if it could be something I might enjoy, looks like I didn't miss anything, may as well just play Resident evil revelations again.
I didn't stop, I just moved things to a new channel: Format changed a bit, but it's similar.
Caliburn89 broken link, what's the name?
Its recommended playing, you can find it on my channel page on the right in the featured channels section.
Or... just here which I should've done in the first place.
I had some fun with the game but i can't see myself replaying it. The game have some great similarities to bloodborne when it comes to the environments but i think that the gameplay as well got bloodbornified. The game is way faster and you can dodge way more before your stamina runs out. Dark Souls II was actually the first soul game i got into so perhaps that is why i seem to like it more than everybody else. But something i liked about dark souls 2 was how varied the different areas was and how i could decide which of the several different areas i should explore. This was found in Dark Souls as well but Dark Souls 3 is way more linear and the environments felt more samey. I have never paid too much attention to the stories and instead just seen the games as the old Croc/Spyro games where you had to explore a bunch of different cool worlds for some reason. Dark Souls 3 wasn't as good as its prequels in that regard.
Now that i think of it, i didn't feel bored when playing Uncharted 2 and 3 but if i analyze the whole thing then i must say that the gameplay was repetitive with all the shooting and combat, puzzles were few but i liked the puzzles. The graphics is the best thing about the game. I think the second Uncharted game was the best one but somehow i enjoyed the third one more. I'm going to play through the first game as i haven't played it before. I don't know why i don't dislike the Uncharted games even though they have repetitive gameplay and too much formula. My favourite games of all time are still the old classic Tomb Raider games and the Zelda series, so much more enjoyable though. I only enjoyed Uncharted for the story and the surroundings.
I think Uncharted 2 (and the first half of 3, before you get to Yemen) have really good pacing which helps to keep you focused and a bit blind to the repetitive nature. The later half of the games usually devolve into very heavy combat which I think showcases a lot of the problems. I agree with you they should be about story and your globe-trotting adventure but naughty dog seems to disagree.
playing let it die yet?
I actually haven't. I'm in the middle of a renovation and I actually can't get to my PS4 since theres so much stuff stacked in front of it. How is it?
ohh, its pretty good so far, grindy i suck at the game though only on floor 6 lol
I also subscribed as i think you are very good at explaining things in your reviews, you share your opinions more than just saying that the gameplay is downright bad or great. Have you ever played any of the Uncharted games ? if you have it would be interesting if you could make a review.
I've played them all. Uncharted 4 is actually the review I'm working on now. I'll get to 1 2 and 3 sometime in the future.
Caliburn89 Ah will be looking foward to the review :)
i must have been really lucky with the timing there, many say that it's one of the most frustrating moments in the game. I just finished the game today for the first time and just isn't really in shock of how great the game was as i heard many say that it's one of the best games ever created. Gameplay is nothing special except for some small puzzles that i liked. The visuals are great when you think about how old it is, atmosphere is spectacular too. What really ruined the experience for me is the controls/camera which made me die a lot, the camera sometimes turn or changes angle just when you are stepping out on a thin pole that you walk on to get down to a swing, 6 times i had to redo the segment where you leave Yorda on a platform which can be moved by pulling a lever and it's a long way to get to that lever too. The part where i died the most is where you jump from a chain to a lever because of ICO not wanting to grab the ledge. Came to the final boss and it was as i thought nothing special either. The story is ok and the whole visual and atmosphere aspect of the game is superb but that didn't help enough as i in the end looked back on the journey and felt that no way am i ever going to play this game again. I don't know if i have a lack of empathy but i didn't really get emotional about Yorda while i played the game like many people mentioned, more annoyed as i waited for her to get down ladders, she could have been more useful than just opening doors.

I definitely agree with it drawing too much from bloodbourne. the torch hollows in ds1 were dangerous and noteworthy because of their insane spam attack, but that's like half the enemy's, including the big guys, in dark souls 3. I feel like the increased speed of bloodbourne had alot to do with that.
I didn't even have footage for a lot of those Carthus dudes in the Catacombs or the other enemies that just spam attacks like crazy. It was so bad in PvP. It's a real shame it turned out that way.
RIGHT IN IT'S STUPID HEAD
EXCUSE ME JEB. Nice review!
I love that video. It's a contender for one of the funniest I've seen all year.
I played through it with friends and we had some fun with it but the pacing certainly hurt it. It was way too slow in the beginning and even later on the endless walking sections really made it drag out. Perhaps i could be more forgiving if i had played it alone but the pacing was a bit too slow to play it with friends. Also ua-cam.com/video/xgI3yEQU1pE/v-deo.html
Thats exactly how I feel. If the game was a 2-3 hour romp it would be perfect for playing with your friends, but making it 5-6 feels like a mistep.
I'm the fella from /v/. Really love your videos man. Keep it up!
thanks guy, means a lot.
Played a bit of it a while ago and i remember not liking it because of awkward controls. Still i would probably give it another shot if Sony ever decides to bless my region with playstation now. It is fascinating though that the whole "games are art" debate never seems to die out and there seems to be a new "proof of art" game for every generation.
I remember getting some fun out of the game but it could have been so much more.
I think multi-player probably could've been really fun but I never played it. Might still be some activity on PC.
happy birthday wes
thanks buddy
i dps raced rom, had to do it like 20 times doe.
I feel your pain. I don't know how many attempts it took me in my first playthrough, but it was a huge amount.
are you gonna get the PSVR? or ps4 pro?
Only if there are games I want on it. I'm pretty satisfied with the base model PS4 right now.
oo
thanks for the review, gonna get this game =)
embrace your inner jew Steven.
