I always ponder why in these apocalypse scenarios people with chickens start eating them. Eggs are better than just offing the protein source they regularly lay. If there’s a rooster you can incubate new chicks and then eat the old hens that aren’t laying. It’s always something I’ve noticed on these.

Tbe idea of the dead reviving isn't plausible, but infected vectors spreading a virus by bites and or scratches is very possible. Don't think it's not already ready for dispersal! Just takes the right group of fanatics in a well populated area. An airborne contagion would be impossible to control. Too many people unaware and unprepared would mean apocalyptic results. In the this case, it's an alien virus that becomes a world destroyer.

The author explicitly states that the story is not to be taken seriously and with a degree of humor so I am not expecting the mastermind plans to be brilliant and have a wide leeway for comic contrivances. But man are all the main characters stupid and spineless at all the important moments...

Basicallly a silencer is intended to make the shot hard to be heard at the weapon's intended range. For a handgun the intended range is pretty close. So a silenced handgun is silent up close (smaller powder load helps too). An assault rifle is intended to be used from 50+ yards away... So even silenced it will be very audible at close range... Especially in confined space.
