The paper roll caps are better if you scrunch a few up together.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 I need to try some of those.
But ive seen this work??
See the Part 2 video, linked at the end, for better results.
Reminded me of when i was a kid and got a cap gun and realized the cylinder fit an airsoft BB perfectly! I seriously cant belive how much power it had, it fired harder than a normal spring gun and must have been aproaching the power of my CO2 pistol, it actually left welts bordering on bleeding and could puncture full cans of pop, and it had NO barrel, after like 2008 they started making the barrels misaligned from the cylinder apperantly to prevent exactly this lol. So i just cut it off and fired straight from the cylinder.
Cool intro
Thanks
Buy prime all and a cap maker
Maybe the paper in the caps blocks the cone would some potassium nitrate aka stump remover on the paper cause it to burn into the chamber? Put a drop in on top of the paper and let it dry thoroughly.
These days it's trivial to find basically any caliber ammunition, but cap gun caps are very difficult to find. I have a whole channel about cap guns and they can still be found but only in very few select stores. I buy 90% of mine online
Take the white load out of the caps and try doubling up on the load on the cap you're going to use i did this when i was a kid to make my caps louder.
Buy a punch and the compound online. Get some thin sheet brass and punch them out and fill them, I’ve never even seen a factory cap in person.
'Lets do a safety check' and then immediately turning the weapon around and pointing it in your general direction Real competent safety check you've got going on there
No precession caps means it is safe. How else would you check to see if there are any balls in the cylinder, a mirror?
Were you using stock nipples? Maybe a hotter nipple allowing more flame through to the main charge? Interesting watch though.
I'm trying to find this in years
Ive done this before with a pietta 1851 navy replica and it worked for me?
I got it to work in the Part 2 video.
a few years back, I ordered a die set from buffalo arms to make percussion cap bodies - it is called 'tap a cap', and can produce appropriate sized caps from scrap aluminum cans. mercury fulminate from roll caps works for primary, but adding a little 4f improves ignition. One caution: ALWAYS keep your iron pointed downrange when capping, the fulminate is a wee bit sensitive, and can go off while capping.
Sounds like good advice!
Is that a 1887? Cool video.
@@JWheeler331 Yes, a Cimarron replica.
How did you do that effect
I didn't get a chance to try it exactly, but what I did do is put the caps on the nipples and test fire them. They went bang, but I don't know if they would set off powder. I did have to put a little slit in each one of them to get them to fit over the nipple. They were very tight.
Ok, so i seen a yt video where a guy used 2 of the charges in 1 cap container....might have even used a real brass cap & installed the charges from the toy ones, & they worked like 75% of the time
@@JohnJones-wg2od See my part 2 video where i got better results.
What's weird is that if you use Armstrong's mix instead of black powder the caps will ignite the charge.
You must trim them a bit 👀 all i say. This technique is old already. ✌🏻
FYI draw nitrocellulose is much easier to make than black pall things considered. Granted you have to be very safe with it less you blow up your gun. However I think the lack of equipment needed alone would make it more realistic?

Part 3
I feel personally attacked for my viewing history.
If you backfill with bp before putting on the toy cap it works
@@austinbarker4328 I think I will try this.
This was great. I think a part 3 with toy caps and sinkers would be awesome.
I remember the chinese caps, and the terrible plastic revolved that came with them haha. but yeah they were pretty loud and powerful, would often give a bright flash at the same time, albeit not the most reliable
@@hardrivethrutown Yep, the gun was cheap feeling.
Try taking the caps apart and make one with 2 or 3 cap powder. Worked for me
@@chrisd6567 I did try something like that and did get more power. See part two that recently uploaded.
The answer is yes. It's not that reliable, but more or less it works.
Love the vids keep em up!
Thanks! Will do!
I’m glad you found on that worked. I figured there was one out there. Just have to figure out how to make it more reliable now..🤣🤣.. You can dent fishing lead with your fingernails so it should be all good to cast out of. When I get enough saved up I’m going to cast some for mine..🤣🤣..Great Video Brother!!
@@mullisoutdoors Thanks Mullis!
Here's the biggest survival tip I can ever give anyone when using a percussion cap and you want to do a reload and reuse your percussion caps all you need is black powder and crushed iron pyrite mix those together into a paste and let dry and then you have a simple brand new working percussion cap you have to use a flammable liquid such as alcohol and or kerosene and I need an alcohol I mean moonshine highly distilled and or triple distill vodka
Years ago, I made an experiment using to recharge .25 with a plastic cap, it works . . .
In an apocalyptic scenario if you can make blackpowder just make a homemade matchlock rifle or pistol. It would be simpler than trying to find caps
Next we need to see is if the paper tape primers for cap guns can be used on a Maynard Primer gun, like a Sharps or 1855 Springfield.
If I only had one of those.
......need tube extension for more yeye
So I been looking for a 1851 navy revolver but I keep only finding none that work
Bought about 10 packs of the Monarch at Academy months ago and they didnt want to run in any of my guns. Their 9mm and 556 work fine though
Wouldn't it be nice to have a weapon system where the primer cap, gunpowder and cartridge were together in one so you could reload much faster
@@delars15 That sounds like witchcraft.
I remember reading in a military handbook that if you needed to make homemade primers, you could take spent primers remove everything from the inside put in three of the paper caps(from the toys that took long strips) then put the anvil back over the top of it and that should give you reliable ignition in a modern firearm
bro I thought that said G&B
luke moment
04:23 that guy saying something like "better keep on down range" (or whatever he said) confused the hell out of me because it sounded so real in my headphones
I still remember those Size and Cost of Cap Revolvers: 10php = Pocket size, 20php = Regular Revolver & 30php = Single action Revolver. Those powder caps 6 shots x 9pcs cost 20php.
As can be seen in my video I put up of me taking out a flower pot with my Uberti 1858 new model army revolver firing .45 Colt cowboy loads using my Howell cylinder when one gets a cap and ball revolver nowadays they should just do what I did when I bought my piece and cylinder 2 years ago and get the same make and model piece and cylinder because the .45 Colt cowboy loads are much easier to find than caps and black powder are
local people in myanmar and thailand did use these toy caps to fire their handmade muskets.
Great subject matter. something that i never expected to want to know. Good Job Sir.
Mike Beliveau mentioned! 💪 ❤
Saw someone peel em apart and put 3 charges together in a brass cap. Can't remember who!
I always wondered about this
