White-Headed Bird
Переглядів 3036 років тому
This bird looks very much like our brown-headed cow birds, except that it has a white head. Could this be an example of leucism in birds? We've never seen this coloration before.
Northern Saw Whet Owl
Переглядів 170 тис.7 років тому
My wife’s eagle eye spotted this Northern Saw Whet owl in one of our ash trees in July 2016. He was about ten to twelve feet up in the tree. In the sixteen years since we purchased the property, this is only the second time we’ve had the good fortune to see one of these owls. The owl was good enough to allow us to take a video, and seemed a bit intrigued by the entire process. To hear more soun...

This morning there were three male pheasants at the top of the driveway. But by the time I got my camera, this was the only one still there.

"should I be worried about that thing? should I? Bah im wasting time! I should be worried. Maybe I should talk to it"
Used to see these at my old house. Especially in the summer.
Liiiinda 😍
I love it. I've notices some of these in my yard in the evenings. Thought what I was seeing looked like some sort of mini owl. Came here and with the sounds verified I was correct. The fledglings begging for food was the give away.
Ah so _this_ is the annoying noise i used to hear off in the distance all night when i was outside in the summer. I thought for years that it was some sort of alarm system beeping at one of the industrial places outside of town. But then i heard it one night off in the brush alongside the river at the local nature center. I went to see if i could get closer and find out what kind of critter it was that i could hear from so far away (you could hear it all over town on quiet nights, it is so stilk around here...thank God). I snuck down the paths in the dark and got closer. And closer. And even closer. Then i was right on top of it, and i was amazed it hadnt heard me. Then i noticed a little red light on the ground, and stepped closer to see what it was...and suddenly found myself tangled in some kind of invisible, clingy material that just tangled up more the more i moved. It was a bird net strung between some stakes, with a speaker beside it playing that call nonstop. I ended up tearing down half the net trying to get free. I always wondered what sort of critter they were trying to catch, and i think now i know.
You must've gotten caught in a mist net. these owls are caught to be banded and tracked a lot, as there are still a lot of questions on their migration patterns. I'm sure the researchers were surprised seeing the net messed with without anything caught!
Funny how an a creatures visual appeal has a direct relationship to how much people give a crap about it, regardless of its actual importance or merit. Im looking at you panda bear.
Aww how cute little owl 🦉

How can just one single bird of prey just to have an adorable subspecies!? 🥺
