The gist of it is that Blaidd was created by the Two Fingers to serve Ranni and remain loyal to her, but should she defy the Two Fingers' will (eg. actively going to kill one of them), then Blaidd would turn insane and turn on her. When you find him, he's basically fighting with himself over two conflicting commands. Iji imprisoned Blaidd in the evergaol because he knew of his nature and feared that he would kill Ranni. After knowing of Blaidd's death he regretted his decision and decided to remove his helm that made him concealed to the Greater Will. The black knives assassins eventually came and killed him.

Blaidd was created by Ranni's own Two Fingers as a vassal to Lunar Princess Ranni and to be incapable of treachery towards her, as she was one of the three Empyreans candidates chosen by the Greater Will, along with Miquella and Malenia, to eventually replace their mother Queen Marika the Eternal as the God of a new .

This was actually the easiest boss for me after upgrading the serpent hunter spear to +8.
