This is my home Scalextric digital layout which is landscaped with the Isle of Man TT circuit as my inspiration. My slot car collection is varied and includes other brands such as Carrera, Flyslot, SCX and Slot.it all the vehicles are fitted with Scalextric digital chip c8515 or c7005.
I was also featured on TV in Hornby a Model World series 2 episode 6 broadcast on Yesterday Channel 20th February 2023

convert Scalextric Shelby Cobra to digital

I've converted my @OfficialScalextric Shelby Cobra to digital using the retrofit chip C7005. it's not easy as there is very little space but I've done it and here's how I did with a short clip at the end showing the car working and lane changing

I had the pleasure of converting mine yesterday, just about had to compromise the cars structural integrity to accommodate the chip. You are absolutely correct, it's not easy. I converted Nigel Mansell's F1 car too.Thats even harder. Now the front wheels don't touch the track about 1mm gap. Needs some fine tuning but bloody hell its damn fiddly.
I'm glad you had a go at it and yes it is difficult but I run digital so I think it's worth the effort for such an iconic car. I did the Lotus 97T black Senna car first and didn't cut any internal structure away and it is awful so I will have to have another go at it sometime.
Does it work on Carrera digital tracks also or only on Scalextric digital track ?
Only Scalextric, it has a Scalextric chip. I don't know anything about Carrera digital so you would have to look at it yourself to see if it can be converted to Carrera

No problem Randy, hope it gives you the confidence to convert your cars too. I know some people are afraid to ruin a good car so if I can show that it's possible then others can try as well
Thanks for the video - gave me confidence to finally chip my Cobra yesterday. Fitting the wires in the cockpit was indeed a fiddly business. I used a spot of hot glue to hold some of them in place. For anyone else doing this, I was able to drill the hole without removing the motor. I wanted to avoid removing the motor if possible because on another car that also had a long motor shaft, the shaft got bent slightly and now the gears don’t mesh properly. I drilled from the top (motor side) down. Not sure why Scalextric don’t at least provide a pre-drilled hole! For soldering the wires, I’ve had good success with twisting the wire strands together in opposite directions so they sort of hold together by themselves and then heating them with the iron and dabbing a drop of solder in the middle. This time the chip wires were already soldered at the ends so I didn’t do that approach and my soldering was pretty poor - hopefully good enough to hold though. Thanks again for the video, it’s a really nice car and seems to run really well - helped by the wide wheel base and fat tyres no doubt.

Thanks Drew, I do enjoy converting cars to run on Scalextric digital and when they are difficult like the Shelby it's really satisfying when it works
Going to take me a bit to get back to soldering, made kit radios when I was a kid...been a while since I was a kid or soldered anything! I pre-ordered the Carrera track cleaning truck, now I just need to find a chip for Carrera to Scalextric!
Are you running Scalextric digital track? To convert Carrera to run on Scalextric digital I use the Scalextric c7005 chip, works fine for me but I am thinking of trying the slot.it sp15c chips but they don't seem to be in stock anywhere at the moment.

Just discovered scalextric and of course bought every piece of track plus the digital Le mans set and the American police set, working on the basement now to have room to build a layout

Nice! Are you using a standard Scalextric controller? They struggle with faster cars. A truspeed will make a huge difference with the driveability of that car and your enjoyment of it.
Yes standard Scalextric controllers and I have looked at truspeed option but I don't use it enough yet to warrant the expense but I will look into it in the future
