The late great Luke Kelly and The Dubliners performing "Wild Rover"
It makes me so happy when Irish folks can speak Gaeilge and aren't embarrassed to do so. Ireland and its people are a gift to the world and something to be treasured.
No, you can't hold your crosse against your chest to protect the ball.
They should play a game to see what’s better Hurling or Lacrosse????

Really nice video, great challenge! Keep it up! 💥
Donal Og is saying that 'trickle-down' economics operate in the GAA? Don't think so. It's basically Animal Farm.....the pigs at the top gather the money and the workhorses (the clubs) are worked to death. Then you have the Manchester City of the GAA being over-funded by Croke Park and proclaiming to the world that they did it on their own....with the 'plan'. Bullshit. 1/4 of the population of the country and they won 2 All Irelands in nearly 34 years before 2011. 1/4 of the population and most of the countries businesses, due to short-sighted government policies. Dublin's All Ireland wins from 2011 - 2016 (and beyond) should have an asterisk beside them, or carry the tagline: "these titles were fully-funded by Croke Park". The GAA is slowly (quickly?) turning into the rugby model. You have the elitist teams at the top and the shite teams (counties & clubs in general) are forgotten about. All the GAA want is for Dublin to be strong, to push marketing and just for enough players to be coming through. They're killing the game and it will be too late before they cop on.
I used to play at Hurling when I went to UCLA. I would go down to the boozer, drink three pitchers of beer and head into the gents to hurl.

Great watch. As a Galway GAA man born and bred and someone who has played to minor and senior level 'squads'. The commitment is hard for people to understand. It becomes an obsession. In a global context...'what's rare is beautiful'. I played 'soccer' GAA football and hurling at the age of 18...I wish I stuck with hurling. The knees in my mid 30's are now suffering!! :D
kilmoyley for champo
My family is a hurling family My 2 brothers( I have 3) play for my county I love this sport because they're normal people Because they don't get paid Because they may have bad injuries but they do it for the love fir the game I don't think any non-Irish will understand the commitment of making sure that you see the All-Ireland Making arrangements at wedding venues so the game can be shown I love this sport ❤️🇮🇪
I agree with you👍🏼if they did bring wages to the players there would be a huge mental change in the players (but not all)... They would play the game for money not for the love of the game.. That's why I'd hate to see GAA players to start getting wages🇮🇪🇮🇪
My dog agility Ya I play the game for love I broke a leg ankle but I dont care

The closest thing we Americans have at a national level is NCAA college sports--which has some of the same elements of amateurism and regional pride (but obviously not quite to the same extent because there is no lifelong commitment to your team). Let's not ruin that too by professionalizing it (i.e., paying college players). It has already been somewhat corrupted in basketball with the "one and done" phenomenon and will only get worse as pro sports throw around increasingly insane player salaries (paid for by you and me with $12 concession stand beers and $150 tickets).
The other difference is that college footballers play only for the college.Whereas a hurler can play for his county if he is good enough and for his local club at the same time. The GAA governs hurling and gaelic football meaning you have dual players some players play for club and county and many play on college teams in both codes,You also have the under 21 competitions and many u21s play for the senior county team as well.So in theory a player can play for 10 teams if he is physically able. to do so.Ticket prices are a lot lower for hurling and gaelic football matches our version of the superbowl the all ireland final the tickets are only 80 euros i don't now what that is dollars but its probably a lot less than 150.Normal intercounty matches are about 20 euros standing and 25 sitting since most stadiums apart from croke park are majority standing 20 euros is what you pay normally. This would not be possible if the game went professional
I'm the only subscriber here 😫😫😫😫
Great documentery but the action from the games was all scrappy play could of showcased us a little better by choosing better clips. how you can show a documentary of our sport to Americans and not show diarmuid o sullivans shoulder against limerick is beyond me as well as others and for that i give it a 7/10
Did Henry not know that there was a goalpost behind him, and all he had to do, was point?
f*** you

Don't feed the troll
bloody sunday is something completely different
There's more than one Bloody Sunday sadly.
+Andrej Krajewski No there was two bloody sundays. One in northern ireland in 1972.The other in croke park 50 years or so before
+Andrej Krajewski you dont know what your talking about kid
what you on about original bloddy sunday
+stoney71 there was a few. One in 1887 , Irish people in London who were protesting were attacked by police. 1920 during irish war of independence, and 1972. There are loads more in other places.
Very interesting!
Its more a regional obssession than a national obssession, but otherwise a good documentary. It has hurling down to a tee.The hurling all ireland is the super bowl of ireland ,but we have more than one the gaelic football all ireland is slightly bigger. The GAA governs both these sports so the money generated in the one goes to both.Another thing they missed out on is the phenonemen of the dual player who plays both.Saying that they were probably better to keep it simple the way they did.
There's a limit on how much you can fit into 14 minutes. They got an interview with the president and barely used 5 seconds of it. They probably filmed the entire Irish class to use a couple of seconds. They packed a lot intp the time, but obviously could have done a lot more in a longer format.
TRiG (Ireland) I thought it was very concise and too the point they were right to keep it simple.
Ha ha you finally put kilkenny in at the end, bitter not much
