“Engaging in Social Justice.” with Jordan Lopez 11.17.24 (Speaker Only)
On Sunday, November 17th, Wedgewood was honored to welcome Jordan Lopez, newly elected representative for NC House District 112, as our guest speaker for “Engaging in Social Justice.”
Social justice is central to Wedgewood’s mission, and Jordan’s inspiring message emphasized the importance of supporting marginalized communities during these critical times.
Born and raised in East Charlotte, Jordan shared how his upbringing, shaped by his single mother and educators in Charlotte Mecklenburg public schools, instilled in him values of compassion, honesty, and hard work. His passion for service led him to pursue Political Science at UNC Greensboro and an MPA from North Carolina Central University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Jordan’s work reflects his commitment to creating a welcoming and accessible North Carolina. From serving on the Board of Directors for CharlotteEAST to being appointed by Governor Cooper to the Andrea Harris Task Force for Racial Equity, Jordan exemplifies leadership in action. He was also a 2023 recipient of Elevate Lifestyle’s “Future Leaders of Charlotte” award.
We are grateful for Jordan’s insights and leadership as we continue our journey of engaging in social justice.

Again, wonderful service. And the message is a part of the movement that I have labeled "Humanianity." We need to work continuously on overcoming the tendencies built into us by evolution that cause so much suffering and tragedy. And it is primarily within our religions that we work on our ethics, i.e., what we should do. Wedgewood is an extremely Humanian church. I wish I did not have a schedule conflict so that I could attend the whole service.
