Hi Jeff, Seven years ago, I began to look for places to move in B.C. I was initially drawn to New Westminister. I recall communicating with "The New West Guys" and following you guys with a few questions over the years. Since then, I have followed you on "A Taste of New West," in addition to looking at other neighborhoods on the Vancouver Mainland. I've also followed Sebastian Albrecht's Vancouver videos. I live in So. California. The moving force behind my desire to move is political. Today, I feel like it's Deja Vu All Over Again, as Yogi would say. Over the 7 years, Vancouver property has skyrocketed, as have lease rates. The laws affecting foreign buyers have also changed. Some long-term lease now appears to be the only way for me to gain a foothold in Vancouver. My wife and I are 74 and both retired. Is there a way for us to discuss these issues further? Thanks.

Thanks for the video! Also, thank you for pointing out that renters are no worse for a community than owners. But I'd like say that I feel the negative focus on renters is simply being pivoted to Landlords now as a prejudiced group. I believe that the extreme example given was more an issue of cheap individuals rather than simply being landlords; and with the large majority needed to approve expenses, it's easy for even a minority to sway the outcome. What if stratas just establish categories of particular urgent repairs that are detrimental to living conditions for residents if neglected, and those issues are eligible to go on a ballot as a vote to POSTPONE rather than approve? That way, a majority would need to have a very good argument against the necessary work, rather than just having 26%+ not feel like spending the money on it. I hope there are smarter solutions than simply trying to predict how people think!
Thanks for your comment. I agree that not all landlords are irresponsible owners and I think you make a good point. Some of the ways in which Stratas govern may have to change under these new rules.
As an owner in a 30 yr old condo building that already has difficulty getting owners to vote for needed repairs & replacements (eg roof, elevators, etc), I am very concerned that Eby's errors, around ending rental restricts, will exacerbate that problem, seriously & negatively affect the long term livability & viability of our building, & diminish the value of my condo. A condo in our building would likely rent for ~$3000 - $3300 per month - at that price how is it going to really help remedy the housing market?
I’m very concerned as well. I’m also curious to see if adding almost 3,000 rental units to the market will cause rental rates to drop or not. Time will tell I guess.

Rip off, pay maybe 100K back in Ont. for this. Floor plan is smaller than my 2 bdrm dumpy apt., tiny bedrooms NO closets and the backyard in un-landscaped and crappy looking, you would expect more than this for $1.6M!
