    Some good information. Too bad the videography is so poor. Often out of focus, camera angle too low to really see the contact point between the tool and the wood.

    Your work is amazing. I know plenty of people that would appreciate it. Many people that see bark edge bowls that have been turned wet, and look slightly oval always ask me how that happens. A true oval bowl would fascinate them.

    As many of you hopefully know by now we lost my beloved dad, Mike Porter, on August 14 to pancreatic cancer. I’m making a note of where he appears in here (at 16:30) to talk about a memorial candle stand he made for family friends in Germany. It’s lovely to hear Dad’s voice, especially talking about something so meaningful to him - both wood turning and these family friends. Coincidentally the husband that he made this for, who had lost his beloved wife, has just emailed me with a photo of the candle stand and to tell me that it’s in a special place in their home and is often used. How beautiful that I then just happened upon this video of Dad discussing it. Thank you for recording these so I can listen whenever I need a “fix”. I look forward to trying out wood turning with Dad’s equipment.

    Wonderful demonstration. I use five D-Way tools for bowls. Turning boxes is something new to me; I have a cherry blank in my lathe right now. Looks like I will be ordering one or two new tools. The double-ended tool is a great idea and a fine value for the price. Learning the history of D-Way was very interesting. The mandrel mounting attachment is new to me and I might have a need for one. I can see some advantages of it over chucks, especially for boxes. Are you using threaded inserts in the wood?

    • @salesaccount1989
      @salesaccount1989 11 місяців тому

      Appreciate the feedback and sharing your positive experience with our tools. Yes. The inserts in the glue blocks are 3/8 x 16 thread. We sell them 2 for $15 or you can make your own. They make an insertion tool to put them in. I made my own. 1/2 inch hole. I think a forstner bit works best. The back of the glue block needs to be concave to properly seat against the mandrel. There is a learning curve, so be prepared to ruin a few before you get it all figured out. We also have the Box Chucks available in 1 x 8 & 1-1/4 x 8. We currently do not have these items on the site since we want to have a usage video available first. We have been selling and shipping to our customers over the phone in the interim. - - - JIMMIE

    Nice job John. I like the way you part off the top from the bottom at an angle. I'm a bit confused about your statment that the parting cut has a radius. When you make the cut, do you cut a straight line (at an angle) or are you swinging an arch as you push into the stock?
