Sometimes you just need an outlet! American Girl shaped my childhood and helped turn me into a storyteller. Creative play keeps me sane and healthy. I’m in a season of relishing both! So come along as I bust out my journaling supplies, laugh with my almost-toddler, fix up my dolls and curate my collection. We may even talk about writing or stories or games! Healing the inner child, nurturing a growth mindset. And just having fun!

AG Collector Series: Frozen’s ANNA Unboxing, Restyling, & Review
My honest reaction & thoughts on AG’s Anna doll! She took me by surprise but the timing was right, and now she has an honored place on my doll shelf. 🥰

Finding Corinne @ AG Nashville | A video that took me 4 months to make

THIS VIDEO CONTAINS OPINIONS. And some silliness. And LOTS of words (sorry), some of which are embarrassing. But at the end of the day, hey! I have Corinne now and she’s wonderful. I hope you enjoy this ridiculous vlog of us finding her at AG Nashville and the very longwinded unboxing process that followed!
Beachside Balcony CHAT & a DOLL HAUL | Secondhand Finds

Late in August, I went to my local Once Upon a Child and was SHOCKED to find... exactly what I was looking for and more! Then I raced home and recorded tons of footage of myself talking VERY LOUDLY about how awesome it was. The footage was pretty much wrecked, and I went off topic so many times. The only useable (and not embarrassing?) part was the actual, you know, doll haul. I stressed about ...
Did anyone else LOVE this outfit as much as I did? Childhood HOLY GRAIL! ❤️💛

After nearly 30 years, I have finally purchased ~THE~ Girl of Today outfit that I loved more than all the others (but still somehow managed to convince myself that I didn’t want and, thus, never asked for). Does it scream summer? Does it scream McDonalds? Does it scream 1996 at the top of its lungs? Let’s find out. #agtube #90snostalgia #pleasantcompany #americangirldolls #culottedress #agnosta...

Believe it or not, I kind of forgot this outfit existed until I got back into AG this year. I can’t explain why. 😅But I’m glad I rediscovered it and have it in my collection now! Also, enjoy hearing a little more about my Joss doll’s origin story. It’s one of my favorites. (720 recommended over 1080. Oops) Greatly inspired by Now and Forever AG’s unboxing of this same outfit from several months...

Meet the girlies who started it all for me. From 1992 to 2000, I was an avid childhood collector of Pleasant Company's American Girl line. After 20 years, it’s time to give them the spotlight they deserve. #americangirlcollector #americangirldolls #pleasantcompany #agtube
Shoot. I was trying to convince myself that I only want to collect historicals to complete my collection but I guess 21 has to go back on my list 😂 I’ve had a named picked out for her for years!
@SunnyDaysAG She sure is a gem!
Thanks for the store tour. I love store tours. I love Corinne’s face mold.
She is pretty. I was interested to hear your thoughts on her.
Heidi?😬
@@cindyhauffe6963 I can see that!
She is a gorgeous doll! The first name that popped into my head was Mackenzie or Mack for short. Have fun customizing her!
@@CherishedDollFriends Thanks, I'm looking forward to it once I can find the time!
She is so pretty.
Congratulations on getting this pretty doll! Great review, (haha, yes, where DID her nose go? 😁😁) I love the way you restyled her!. Red hair and freckles are pretty much my favorite features on any doll, so I definitely have a number of them in my collection (of any doll brand, not just AG). I haven't purchased any of the collector dolls, but I did use some gift cards and reward points to order a curly red haired, freckle faced, light skin Addy mold doll. 🙂 I think you should go ahead and remove her lashes, and make any other modifications that you are considering - you'll just love her even more once you do. As far as names, heh, that's such a personal choice. I could see her as an Annika, Audrey, Linnea, Lily, Mira, or Remy. But I'm sure your back pocket name will suit her the best!
@@dollahlah-54321 Oooh, Linnea might inch out my back pocket name 😍 And yeah, you’re right. As soon as I have time to obliterate those lashes, no one will be able to stop me 😂 Curly red & freckled Addy sounds adorable! Similar ones I’ve seen online look so precious. Great choice! (I wish AG loved the Addy mold as much as we collectors do.) Thanks for being here ❤️❤️❤️
My mum, who has never seen Frozen, ended up buying herself the Anna doll because she thought she was just too cute. She's named her Esmee. The doll looks so good in all the different outfits you put her in! She really is just so versatile and pretty. Congratulations on getting her!
@eliseelliot Thank you! Yeah, she really is a gorgeous doll, regardless of source material. I'm so glad your mom has her Esmee! (Thanks for being here every time, Elise. I truly appreciate it ❤️)
My Kirsten from 1989 formed those same silver (creepy) eyes that your Molly has. I sent her in to the doll hospital about 10 years ago and she came back with new eyes!
They can do great things!
Love the thumbnail lotr reference 😤💖
Did you keep all the original hairstyles in? If not, you did a great job restyling!
Aw, thank you! They’ve all been redone by me many, many times.❤️
I reached out to American girl and with Mattel being the owner, they have had to switch manufacturers. I ordered Leila and she came in like sandpaper there was something wrong with her vinyl
Oof, that's no good. I hope you were able to get a better one!
I'd love to buy old catalogs. I have purchased one so far. Its riddled!
I sent all my silver eyed dolls away for professional repair. It is only $27 per doll.
You got some amazing finds/deals! Can't wait to see more, and now I want a a Lindsey. She's beautiful seeing her filmed. Also do you have a Instagram.
Yeah, Lindsey really is a gem! And… yes, I do technically have an instagram account, but I almost never use it 😅 I’m lynniebird.look there.
I haven’t collected American Girl dolls long enough to experience changes in quality control. Most of my dolls are second hand but the few new ones I have purchased seem to be ok with no defects. I actually don’t mind when dolls are not perfect as it gives them a unique character however wonky eyes are not acceptable. I love Evette so much and she is also a favourite doll in my collection. Oh! She looks so stunning in that Christmas dress at the end. 💕Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the photo at the end. If Molly's Christmas dress weren't literally made for Molly, it would be MADE for Evette. It suits her so well! She may or may not have worn it well into April 😆
Thanks for sharing! There is something about the Josefina mold that makes the eyes SO difficult - even first edition Josefina's can have wonk-eye, so I don't think that part is unique to modern AG. But I remain grateful that I just don't... notice... a lot of the defects that others can spot so quickly. It makes my collecting experience a lot easier, lol. I can't really comment on the shift in quality control because, like you, I stopped paying attention around 1999, 2000, and didn't come back to AG till 2021. I know corporate greed always plays a part in things, and I'm not trying to discount that, but I do think that some of the shift in quality is genuinely to try and keep at least some of the prices down so that it isn't a LUXURY-luxury brand. I also find it darkly amusing, at times, when people yell about how they want the quality back, but then pearl clutch when the prices go up. I've seen people getting angry about the new birthday outfit rereleases being $45, for example, but two of those outfits come with shoes they didn't originally come with, and they all come with a book. $45 is a pretty reasonable price, and the outfits are very comparable to their PC counterparts, from my experience. Kirsten's flower crown is, in my opinion, better with the rerelease, too - it's sturdier and less likely to crumble over time. People are upset about the named dolls going up by $10, saying that is SUCH a huge jump (... it is? They were already $115, is $125 THAT big a difference? Sure, it's never fun to pay more, but it's not like it's a $50 jump) when the dolls these days are CHEAPER than the early PC days, when you adjust for inflation. I don't know, I just feel like there probably is a balance that needs to be found, and no one has found it yet, either at Mattel or among collectors. Sometimes I think we collectors just want to be cranky and live in our nostalgia world, while Mattel wants to figure out how to milk us for money and can't find the magic formula... sorry for the TedTalk in the comments. Also, given that AG has not been making Mattel good money in recent years, the quality issues are also them trying to not pay more for product that people aren't buying. Anyway. Your Evette is quite lovely, I don't see anything wrong with her at all, and I hope you are enjoying her!
I love this take! You're right, these dolls are WAY less expensive than they used to be, which makes them both luxury and accessible. That is a huge plus for modern AG! I also don't think the $10 price increase is much of a big deal. Hopefully it's working toward that balance you were talking about. Thank you, Elise!
Lol, I love Evette's meet dress, and I like the color orange AND the color pink. Evette is supposed to be a fan of vintage fashions, her other outfits were 1970's inspired. Evette is hands down my favorite AG doll, and as you know I have a second doll (Chloe) with that same wig 😁 "Don't look a gift doll in the wonky eyeball" 🤣🤣 Heh, Velveteen Rabbit Felicity 😁 Maybe Defectevette will be going to a benefit sale at some point? Agree, the quality needs to improve for sure. However, the new outfits I got for Julie and Kirsten's birthday outfit did not disappoint. Most of my dolls are purchased second or even third hand, so I do think there has been a marked decline in materials. Great video, Birdie! ❤ 🙂🙂🙂
Hahhaa Defectevette! 😂 I'm so glad to hear the new stuff doesn't disappoint. I got Josefina's and Kirsten's bday outfits but I haven't opened them yet. So excited! Oh, and even though I don't love pink, I do typically like it when it's next to orange! They go so well together, at least in most cases. Like Lila's color palette! Thanks for stopping by! Now I've got to go catch up on your most recent videos. 😊🩷🧡🩷🧡
So cool!
That’s so cool!
Oh, it's so cool!
Please forgive me for any motion sickness this may have caused 😅
New subscriber here - such a fun video. I'm definitely looking forward to more. BTW, you mentioned your ASL era and I don't know if you're interested in brushing up but I have a playlist of ASL-accessible videos on my channel. I aim to put out one a month along with the rest of my videos :)
Hi, yes! I've watched several of your ASL accessible videos and enjoyed them very much. Thank you so much for subscribing! Happy to have you here 😊
aw, I love catalog look throughs, and especially when you reminisce over your own memories. I was already a young woman when the catalogs first came out, but I remember wanting one of these dolls and wishing I was still a kid, lol. (oh, how times have changed). Great video! Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
I love everything about this video!!!!
Oh my gosh, what kind words! Thank you 😊
I was also a grown woman at the AG store kneeling on the ground with SEVERAL boxed dolls around me. I was comparing Melody dolls - 75% of them looked like they had cut their own bangs though (hello modern AG quality control 😅) so it was worth hand picking my Melody. Corrinne is definitely on my list, congrats on getting her! ❤
Thanks! And yes, I would ABSOLUTELY do the same for Melody. The dolls are so inconsistent these days!
Lindsey is so underrated, and I think it's because she's 100x cuter in person vs. photos. I just got a Lindsey to customize as a historical character of my mom as a child in 1978, but as soon as I unboxed her, I fell in love more than I've ever fallen in love with an American Girl doll before! Now I dont think I have it in me to swap her eyes and remove her freckles to turn her into my mom - I think she's a permanent member of my collection now!
I absolutely agree! So glad you fell in love with yours, too ❤️ Mine has only grown on me more and more. More love for Lindsey!
Since getting back into AG, I was also disgusted by how ugly and gross so many of the shoes I had for my dolls as a kid were 😆 Lindsey's boots, Kit's meet sandals, the navy mary janes from the "Urban Outfit" outfit, the blue suede boots from the "I Like Your Style" outfit, Marisol's meet shoes - all falling apart and totally unuseable! It must've been a materials issue.
Seriously! Everything else ages so well but the shoes are a mess 😆
I wish i had kept some catalogs, unfortunately i didn't (i also sold half my collection during my "not being interested in AG" phase, dang it!) But that's why videos like these have been so fun! What a throwback!
My American Girl collection was a secret as a child too, for the same reasons! None of my classmates were into american girl and i figured they'd bully me even harder than they already were and judge me for being "spoiled" for having so many dolls. Now as an adult i feel a new kind of judgement for being obsessed with my many american girl dolls, but I give fewer $#@*& 😂 Love your beautiful collection, by the way!
So glad someone else can relate 😅 Thank you!
My favourite part of catalog flip throughs is people talking and sharing their observations or memories, so don't apologize for talking! Especially since you and I are around the same age and grew up with AG, I really enjoy hearing your memories and childhood nostalgia and tallying it against my own. Also, you must read Molly Saves the Day, especially if you were a summer camp kid. It's actually my fav of her books, and the one I remembered most strongly as an adult getting back into AG. Thank you for taking us through this catalog! The nostalgia!
Ahh yes, I have to read it! You've made me even more eager. I think my library has it. Thank you for the kind words. I get so ramble-y when I talk off the cuff, I was afraid I'd end up with a 90 minute video😅 But it's encouraging to be reminded that talking is part of the experience! Thank you for being here! I always love reading your comments. ❤
My Kit has super loose limbs too! I wonder if it is how they were made.
Maybe! Of course, I didn’t do mine any favors by displaying her seated and then storing her on her back for over a decade 😅
Great video! I had to cackle at the spider you edited in while talking about Claudie's eyelashes 🤣I've always said those bottom ones look SO spidery! Your Corinne is so beautiful - congrats on the addition! 😍
Thank you so much!
Whoever calls black hair difficult or can’t atleast learn to take care of it. Maybe people should learn.
Exactly ❤️
ABSOLUTELY!
Corinne is so cute! I’m glad you finally got her. My favorite part of her story is her relationship with Gwynn and then Blix! The sibling dolls are adorable. If I had half the collection I have, I’d have gotten Corinne…but I have quite a few Asian dolls already. I prefer the jewel toned hair, too. I should say I like winter because I was born in winter, but I hate being cold. I get too cold in AC, let alone in freezing temps. Snow is fun, in moderation.
Yeah, temperature control is key for enjoying winter. I love it, but I love it mostly from the comfort of my own home 😂 (or a ski trip). Yay sibling bonds! I’m excited to keep reading. (And I’m glad to know someone else likes the jewel toned hair!) Thanks for being here!
The painted lashes have grown on me, but my dolls rarely sleep these days. 😅 118, the pale ghost, is STILL just a bit darker than me. 😂 I love the representation, though. Not all of us can tan. I freckle, I burn, I’m pale.
😂 I’m sure you still look more alive than 118 does in harsh lighting. Also, “my dolls rarely sleep these days” 🤣 Fair point!
@@LynnieBird AG store lighting never does any of the dolls justice!
I am also a theatre kid who was disappointed that Kavi's story didn't more accurately reflect theatre kid life. I will say, though, that some of the story in the actual book (not the journals), while having the "must save the production!" drama, also deals with Kavi being jealous that another kid got cast as Annie and then realizing that the kid worked really hard for it and had a lot she had done to get to where she is, and ends up befriending the kid - and being invited to maybe go to theatre camp! Which... didn't get any storytime whatsoever, alas. But there are CRUMBS of a normal theatre kid story! (Kavi is the first GOTY that I bought, specifically because my brain went OMG THEATRE KID and I had to have her; I had Lindsey because I collect the Jewish dolls, too, but otherwise she was my first GOTY!) Your Corinne is just gorgeous! I loved all your commentary and thoughts at the store, it was really enjoyable. I so appreciate the way you edit your videos, they're very engaging. I understand, though, how much time they must take! The outfit you put together for Corinne is very cute!
Thank you so much, fellow theatre kid! You have made me actually want to read Kavi’s book. 😂 And I really appreciate hearing your thoughts on the video style, that’s very encouraging. Thank you for being here!
Corrine is beautiful! I am glad that you were able to add her to your collection.
Thank you!
Your videos are so fun. I’d love to hear about your other hobbies. I wish the algorithm had pushed your videos to me as they came out. 😅sorry I’m late
No worries! Poor algorithm just can’t be trusted. 😂 Glad you’re here now! And thank you.
It was such a joy to watch you open your grail! Congratulations 🎉
Aw, thank you! My inner 11-year-old is finally satisfied 😆
I love that outfit! It’s on my wishlist for sure.
It does not disappoint!
Congratulations on your Corinne! She’s such an amazing doll!
Thank you! She was definitely a home run for AG.
You should get Evette before she retires! She’s gorgeous, but sadly on her way out. I got mine in March. Highly recommend her. 🥰 Also, my little is at the age where he just wants to run around any store, so AG is out of the question. I gotta go in by myself. I’ve never been to Nashville period. I need to go and visit AG, too - I like to visit every location I can. 😂
Yeaahhh I’ve heard that. Gah. She’s next on the list. Thanks for saying something! I’ve been thinking about it but… I think you’ve convinced me. It also helps that AG just lowered her price to $80. That also feels like a clearing stock thing, so I really need to get on it.
haha, great video! Your comments (written and verbal and in meme) had me chuckling and grinning. 🙂 Yes, Claudie looks like a really young child, even with the eyelashes! She definitely has the chubby cheeks. Oh, that mini Josefina from 2001 is soo pretty! Some of the earliest mini AG dolls are a little creepy looking, NGL. The CGI is definitely disturbing, IMO. I'm not sure it could be MUCH worse, lol. I don't understand the insistence of the eyelashes on all the new dolls, either, but I don't mind them at all on Evette, for some reason. I'm so sad that my local AG store closed. It was over an hour's drive away so I wasn't there too often, but I did go about once a year. Your baby is too cute, with her chubby little hands and her "talks" Congratulations on your Corinne! You really did get a great one. She looked so cute in both her summer and her autumn outfits. 🙂 So cool that you lived in South Korea for 5 years! (Would love to hear more about that at some time) I totally understand that you don't have a lot of free time to edit videos, there's no way I would have been able to have a youtube channel when my kids were babies and toddlers. I couldn't even pursue my doll hobby other than to hope my daughter would like them so I could "play" with her (she never really did) 😞 Have a great Thanksgiving! We will be in Oregon, near Mt. Hood. Brr.
Yeah, isn’t it weird how the eyelashes work on some and don’t on others? IF their eyes are open, of course 😂 It would be so much better if they reserved the eyelashes for statement dolls that they really serve a purpose on. Like the WBU girls, since it marks them as older, and Nanea and Corinne. Or, like, if they sold official vinyl stick-on lashes. They’re already following what customizers have been doing, why not keep going? But the thing about custom dolls is that NOT EVERYONE wants them. Make it OPTIONAL, American Girl, pleeeeeeaaaaasssse 😫 Yes, the earliest mini dolls are super weird hahahah. But they have their own charm. I’m glad they moved away from the glass eyes, but I’m also glad the glass-eyed ones exist, if that makes sense. But wow, it really took them a long time to figure out the hair! I appreciate your distaste for the CGI 🤣 I’m always stuck between reminding myself that I’m not the target audience and insisting that NO, it doesn’t matter, I would have hated it when I WAS the target audience, too! It feels like it’s pandering, and kind of insulting. Doing this with a baby is definitely kind of insane, but it’s so much fun when it works out! I’d sure love to be more consistent, though. And I’m sorry you didn’t get to share the doll love with your daughter like you wanted, but good on you for embracing it anyway, even if just for yourself! Thank you so much for commenting ☺️ I always look forward to hearing what you have to say, and I’m so glad I could make you smile! Now that I’ve emerged from the fog of editing, I have quite a few of your videos to catch up on! See you over there 😁
