A few years ago I was a borderline case myself and also diagnosed with sleep apnea and on the bloody machine and mask every night. I said sod this and decided to do something about it and went on a protein only diet. I lost 3 stones, got rid of the damned machine and my glucose went back to normal. That's great you say, but I was bloody miserable depriving myself of the food I really like so I lapsed a bit and put some weight on again. Then the heart attack happened and as a result I am on loads of pills to keep me going but I feel fine. I retired from a stressful job and now am happy doing nothing and enjoying whatever takes my fancy. I still have all my teeth though which is a testament to the benefits of private dentistry.
Welcome to the Diabetic club. There are millions of us. My situation mirrors yours, 36 years of dentistry and stress and comfort eating. It was also obvious to me when you drink pints of water in the day then get up for the loo every hour through the night. Standard meds for BP, statins etc and initially 3 monthly blood tests. The meds work for a while then the HB1 score goes up. So you max on the Metformin dose then they keep adding in other meds to try to lower the blood sugar. On at least a cocktail of 4 then then they add in Semaglutide. I think you can "reverse" the diabetes if you fancy eating 400 calories a day forever but I like my fry-ups. If you stop these you may not live longer but it will just be a life of hell. My retirement didnt help my diabertes but it filled my heart with joy and everyday I didnt have to listen to Mavis and her floppy lower ridge just reinforces my happiness. So, as you so rightly say, be philosophical, take your medicine and give up the dentistry.

The real problem facing the US, and what makes the upcoming economic Armageddon so much more catastrophic is that the US has corrupted its populous from various socialist and social justice progroms. Further, the only real “growth” possible is via AI, which generates nothing other than temporary replacements for displaced low-skill workers. The green energy hand waving has largely run its course and most of the skilled workforce is rapidly becoming MIA. Back in 2008 here was still enough skilled labor as well as upcoming markings like US domestic oil production and other areas to “spend” the way out of the hole a little bit. Now there’s nothing really left but a graying population that is being replaced by teenagers whose entire life experience comes from instagram, Tik-Tok, and twitch. It’s one thing to implode your economy on purpose, but it takes on a whole new magnitude when there’s nobody left to pick up the pieces except for garbage computer code written in New Deli and Bangladesh.
I think it's great that we can have these macroeconomic debates. Who would have thought that economic self-awareness would be a killer app after Web sites, email, etc.? I don't quite agree with you about AI. Most technology is deflationary and I use AI in the practice to write policy documents that would waste highly productive time otherwise-so I'm a highly skilled worker that's been made more productive through AI and overall I think it will have a strong deflationary effect. The problem is that technological deflation on its own can't compete with all the other inflationary factors.
@@1st-Impressions The problem is that its not how AI is being employed. Or at least employed in the US. It’s not being used to improve productivity like earlier innovations like the personal computer which helped fuel an economic boom from the late 70’s all the way up until the 00’s. It’s being largely used to replace many types of workers. In entertainment there is a push to replace “costly” artists and voice actors with generative AI in various types of entertainment. Most social media now also heavily uses generative AI for art. Same with music. AI and automation has also largely replaced talent in music (e.g. autotune and AI generated songs). In this he food and retail sector AI is largely being explored to replace the current costly “minimum wage” employees whose current wages of $15-$25 usd per hour has been a significant factor in inflation. It’s really quite diabolical. Many of the same people responsible for policy with respect to AI have also been big proponents of raising minimum wage and workers rights, knowing full well it’s a poison pill that will bifurcate society. New technology _can_ be a deflationary driver for sure. Back during the 2008 crash I started work at an oil and gas services company that made high tech drilling and nuclear imaging tools for the oil industry. These tools and other technologies made possible the development of shale oil and gas in the US previously impossible to develop economically. It brought the US from a net importer of oil at around $110 usd a barrel to a major exporter of oil at prices as low as $35 usd a barrel with an actual glut in inventory prior to 2020 which greatly decreased energy costs. Ultimately, though, AI is just generating a sea of endlessly repeating nonsense entertainment content and dystopian restaurants and stores filled with a Byzantine array of kiosks and cameras to monitor consumer activity. Not sure how they plan to make money if those who would be its customers are the same people it put out of work. It will be deflationary in the long run, but not in the sense of making people more productive, but non-existent. It’s similar to what is happening in China with most people unemployed with some working menial jobs if they can find them and a tyrannical government that has disincentivized business and driven all foreign investment out of the country. The entire economy is in a deflationary implosion since there’s no money in circulation (people just squirrel it away) and no business to drive things (stores are closing at an exponential rate). And even then jobs like delivery drivers are quickly being replaced by autonomous diving vehicles, so even delivery drivers on e-bikes will become extinct. Pretty much the only revenue there now for local and regional governments is from fines levied against citizenry. Those running the US seem to have the same dystopian desire to bring that here, which is the real goal for AI as far as policymakers and tech companies are concerned. Right tool for the wrong job.
There are no plans to put VAT on dentistry. It's exempt from VAT as it's part of a public healthcare programme. Why have you made this tube? It's pure misinformation. As for public schools...well, it's always been an absurd exemption. Public schools should never have been awarded charitable status.
No idea why this video was recommended 🙂. I live in the Netherlands where almost all schools are state schools...and not free after primary school, so totally different. Regarding dentists: we don't have national health insurance like the UK. Health insurance is privatized: you can choose your "health provider". We don't have the problem in the UK that we have to wait weeks for an appointment for a doctor. Dentists? You can choose your own "private" dentist. Prices are somewhat capped. However, just paid EUR 165 for two small fillings so not cheap.
In the UK you still have to pay with NHS dentists many thing they wont do NHS I had a filling this Monday was 140, had a one earlier this year root canal crown was 850 this was private at an NHS demist you often have to go private even if have an NHS dentist. When I lived in south Scotland when unemployed over 20 years ago even with benefits the NHS would not give me a free dentist. There is no entitlement to a dentist in the UK. My MP told me this when I went to complain. There is only entitlement to an entitlement card which you would need to find a demist that would accept that in many areas you will no irrespective of income. There is entitlement to GPs in the UK but not dentists, The NHS have to provide you with a GP even if a millionaire. They dont have to give you a dentists even if on benefit and no work. NHS dentists are often also private they do some NHS work to get a tax payer non funded public sector pension. The UK dentist system is pointless as you get MPS that may get subdivided dental work and when on benefits or a low income may not. Its often poor people that pay the full cost while better of get some tax payer funding. Its because in the poorer areas often no NHS dentists. They would be better using the money spent on NHS dentists to pay for low income people to have a dentists. Even over 20 years since unemployed I think teeth worse for that time with no dentist. There is another problem with the UK dentist system. When unemployed I had a benign tumour in my mouth. I went to my doctor who told me I need a dentist to refer me for a free operation at NHS hospital to have it removed. It is only because I said will complain to my MP that he referred me for the operation. Part of the mouth screening program and referral is done by dentists in Scotland so if unemployed unless can threaten GP with complaint then out Luck as no entitlement to a dentist . I had a friend that new the MP and things., The NHS is not so good for the mouth a tumour does not care if in the mouth or any where else. If in the mouth harder to get it removed unless can afford a dentist or threaten GP with complaint to refer you.
@@edword7195 Sorry to hear about your troubles. In the Netherlands dentist treatment is free for everyone until your 19th.
You have not gone into the rights and wrongs of VAT on private dentistry. Being honest now would you like to tell us how much of your ( very expensive private ) work is cosmetic rather than responding to clinical need ? What's he difference between a fashion model smile and an expensive bottle of perfume from a needs point of view ?. Both are wants rather than needs. And are thus morally qualified to be subject to VAT. If you don't want to pay VAT then get into the basics and lower your fees. Simples.
You lost me when you said VAT was a moral tax.
@@1st-Impressions Maybe that's because I said nothing about VAT being a moral ' tax. Let me explain again slowly. Bread is zero rated for VAT. This is because bread ( and things like meat fish milk sanitary towels etc etc ) is regarded as an essential item. It's a need . Not a want. Essential for the sustenance of life. That being the case most civilised people understand that imposing VAT on goods which are essential to life is immoral. Human beings don't have the choice on whether to eat or not. And women don't have an option whether they will have periods or not. As much as everyone would love to be driving around in a Ferrari nobody needs one And being just that it is not immoral to impose VAT on the purchase of Ferraris. Simple. Ok Now that all that is clear lets move onto dentistry. Nobody needs cosmetic dentistry. They want . Everyone needs pain free teeth ( or dentures ) in working order. Right now back to my question to you. How much of your work is cosmetic and thus non essential work which should be taxed and how much is essential and should thus not be taxed. ?. Easy question. Important question.
@@JohnJones-ct9pr You did say that perfume is morally qualified to be subject to VAT. I'm not going to be drawn into a discussion about what you think is a need/essential and should be VAT-exempt. Is a bra a necessity (taxed), or caviar (exempt)? Toilet paper (taxed), crisps (taxed) or tortilla chips (exempt)? Who is going to decide if a filling is a necessary/need or cosmetic. Perhaps make silver fillings exempt and white fillings taxed? Tax crowns if you're good looking, or get them VAT-free if you're ugly?
@@1st-Impressions You are doing your best to miss the point. So let me simply ask again. As a private dentist what percent of your work is cosmetic and what percent clinical. ( ie medically necessary ) ? Cheers.
@@JohnJones-ct9pr The difference between NHS and private is the time available and the quality of the materials and lab. work. So - no difference you can use to justify taxing one over the other. Private dentistry does not mean cosmetic dentistry.
Over 30 years ago I went to a new dentist who told me I needed 6 fillings. Suspicious, I went elsewhete. 30+ years later with other dentists and I've only had 3 in that time! So there is definitely *some* other kinds of fraud the other way too.
Not very successful ones, obviously.
To add to your point the government quietly passed a bail in law that means the banks can take the money in your bank account for themselves and issue you shares. The problem is the shares are in the bank that effectively just went bust so they won’t won’t be worth much money but you can bet that they would value it at the previous banks valuation. So they issues 1 share for every £100 but they would be with 1 share for every £10 or less so you’ll need to hold the shares for a long time before you get your money back. Legalised theft IMO.
Yes, this was the solution in Cyprus (see notes).

My experience of Dentists- Liars! Blatent lies on what you can and cannot get on the NHS banding system. I was told I could not have a bridge on the NHS, when in actual fact you could. I know of others that have also experienced similar situations so IMO the dentists in my area are the frauds.
You need hard assets such as silver, gold etc. Cash will lose it's value with inflation
Very good explanation of the different types of Money. You didn't cover the effects of inflation on held money. That £100 buying power I held last year would cost me £120 to replace this year less the £5.00 interest I got from having it in the bank and the full £120 if I had it under the matress in cash.
I have never done any of that "I got the cash" ready to go! The relief in seeing a dentist reasures the pain is going to be gone soon! 💯Also i am an IT expert and back in the day doing repairs or upgrades i used to get can we pay you "next week" the week that never comes! So i can fully appreciate your rant and totally agree!
Well done on standing on your principles and not buying the mower. The thing that annoys me the most is the reluctance to take cash for expensive purchases like cars and houses due to money laundering rules. Whatever happened to cash is king?
I was quite shocked to hear that it costs £9700 -- perhaps out of naivety, I was expecting something more around ~£2000. With that amount of money changing hands, you'd think they'd have better customer service than... that, lol.
For any lab work, at least half of the treatment fee should be paid before the scan / impression goes to the lab. Ideally, the full fee should be taken at the fit appointment, before the work has been fitted
As someone from a country where they drive on the right, it's kind of scary to see you drive on the left. otherwise I think your conduct was respectful and justified. I always respect my dentist and always pay in cash immediately on the treatment day. Also advice to everyone brush your teeth every 12 hours, recommended to floss before you brush your teeth.
Thanks for these informative videos, we need more like these in dentistry. These topics are very important and unfortunately not taught in dental schools. Kind regards from the Netherlands

HI
Overpaid, choosing to take teeth out instead of treating them, absolutely disgusting dentists, go away and work private and get no jobs and no income, that would be nice. boycott private dentists. They DONT listen to patients, id argue that dentists are now UNSKILLED and lazy because shouldnt they be root canlling before ripping a tooth out, i personally think its because they worry there poor dentists and dont want to embarass themselves because there ripping the NHS off, i blame the dentist far more than the tax payer.
