      Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately Robin’s back continues to be a problem. We are hoping for some good news soon. As it is cold right now I have to wait for spring to get more Boat work done. However I do have ideas for some other boat related videos over the winter. If you do get any hull to deck leaks I think my video of the construction of the deck to hull joint could be helpful. Keep in mind that the sealant for the deck to hull joint has most likely dried out on your Corbin 39 too .Hopefully you don’t have this issue. But if it is you at least have some idea why. Regards Scott & Robin

    I’ve just subscribed and reviewed all your videos over the past few days. A few comments that I have observed. First I’m concerned that you only put two layers of 1708 on top of the new core. The strength of a sandwich construction is the total thickness of bottom, core and top skin. So from a strength standpoint you’re ok. In most cases you want the top skin to be thicker than the bottom skin to help with impact resistance. You want a minimum of 1/8 to 3/16 finished thickness. Two layers won’t give you even 1/16. Second issue, you talked about removing the emergency tiller from the aft cabin. Make sure that the top bushing is not required to support the rudder post. Third, you need a bunch of layers of breather cloth under the vacuum connection. Just fold some small square and put it under the connection point. It helps to prevent resin from getting to the valve and ensures good air flow to the pump. For much better understanding check out the Duracell project. He is a vacuum master and his rebuild of an 60 open ocean race boat to cruiser is fascinating. Great persistence so far and good luck moving forward

      I agree with pretty much every thing you have said in your comment and I appreciate your input. I have to lay up a lot more glass yet. I am thinking 6 to 8 layers of 1708. Andy from Boatworks Today (UA-cam channel) suggested to make the outer skin fibreglass the same thickness it was originally.

    • @sailingvesselreimagined9433
      @sailingvesselreimagined9433 6 місяців тому

      The emergency tiller is a kind of offset arrangement from the rudder shaft. I would definitely not remove the upper bearing or anything else that would affect the structural integrity of the rudder assembly. I don’t think I can’t post a picture here of the arrangement but if you email at sv.reimagined@gmail.com I’ll send you a pic of the arrangement. I do not intend to get rid of the emergency tiller but I would like to perhaps relocate it. Thanks for your comments I truly appreciate your input Best regards Scott

    • @sailingvesselreimagined9433
      @sailingvesselreimagined9433 6 місяців тому

      I had wondered about the breather cloth. How many layer do you recommend under the vacuum connection point. I have also seen people fabricate what they refer to as a frogs tung to keep the resin away from the vacuum connection what are your thoughts on that? I’m already a subscriber of Matt’s and Janneke’s channel on project Duracell. That’s one of the reasons I bought the vacuum pump I did.

The carbide blades last a really long time. The only downside is it is a little hard on the arms but it is so effective it’s amazing. One thing to remember is you have to move from left to right. You can reverse that but you have to reset the shoes that guide the tool. Thanks for comment

  • @emslady77
    @emslady77 11 місяців тому

    I saw the neurosurgeon on Thursday and he is requesting another MRI to see if there’s been changes since the last one was completed six weeks ago due to the increase of pain and decrease of strength in my left leg. Between the spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and herniated disc. He’s worried about performing a second surgery on my back. I originally had a surgery done three years ago and the similar area and he does not believe that shaving the discs would be beneficial for me as the existing MRI does not show that I have a compressed nerve, but he is very worried about the amount of pain and disability this is causing. He is not in favor of Physical Therapy at this time due to all of the inflammation and swelling in my back. He has ordered a new muscle relaxer that is also supposed to help decrease inflammation. On Wednesday, I had an injection of steroids in my back again, and I sadly, I have seen very little improvement. As everybody that lives in the USA as well, aware insurance companies run healthcare not the doctors, so this is where we all sit in Pain for months or even years. I don’t want a Band-Aid for my situation. I need resolution because I have too many things to do and places to see . Thank you, Robin.

    Today I went to see a neurosurgeon as I have stenosis, basically it is a strangulation of the spinal cord. I have had this for some years now and it was treated by injections, but over time it stopped helping. I have for the past year been In agony with both feet burning with pain and numbness. Taking medicine until I was verging on over dosing to try to alleviate the pain. He said today that he would operate on me, it was only when I said I had enough and could not take it anymore. He did say that it might not be successful and that I could end up worse and at the top end die from side effects. But constant pain puts all that to one side. I feel for you as I know what you are going through. I hope you get a good outcome from this.

      This is Robin. I too have spinal stenosis as well as degenerative disc disease and a new herniated disc as L5/S1. I wish you best of luck. At my appointment on Thursday he also said that a spinal fusion of L4/L5 and L5/S1 may not help as the current MRI shows no great impingement on any nerves like it was 3 years ago when I had to have surgery so, he ordered another MRI as the last one was 6 weeks ago and my pain has only gotten worse. The burning and stabbing pain is just too much to handle. I’ve only been dealing with it for about 2 months so I can only imagine what it much better like having this pain for years and knowing the pain medicine does not really help.

I will ask Robin to reply to you tomorrow. Thank you so very much for the comment. I just want to get Robin out of this agonizing situation. I think you suggestion of a second opinion is a good one.

    I grew up around a dad who owned some pretty fast powerboats. I love the water but don't have the money to travel around via powerboat and I've recently decided to learn how to sail and get a sailboat. When you moved your new to you boat do they charge per mile or how does that work.

    • @sailing_Reimagined
      @sailing_Reimagined Рік тому

      I’m not sure how they calculate the cost. I’m pretty sure it’s no simply a per mile calculation. There was a fare amount of time spent on securing the boat on the trailer so I’m pretty sure that is part of the calculation. If your in Ontario, Canada I would strongly Andrews Trucking out of Niagara on the Lake. They are great. Thank you so much for Commenting please like and subscribe it really helps the channel grow.

      Ok cool, I saw in the last episode, you mentioned the knee core material was wet. Can you elaborate on that by chance.?Maybe which chainplates go to that knee, and what the core material was. Feel free to DM me at my channel too if you have time, I’d would love to talk with you about your boat. Thanks again!

    • @sailingvesselreimagined9433
      @sailingvesselreimagined9433 2 роки тому

      The reason I think the core of the knees became wet was that on my boat the knees went all the way up into the bulwark where the hull to deck joint is located. The knee was glassed up into the bulwarks but was not protected from a leak at the hull to deck joint. I seems not all Corbins were constructed this way.

    Some guy tryed to give me a Corbin . It had a weird driving helm on the inside . The inside was trashed . My hands are full I passed it on to a young guy in the marina. • @sailingvesselreimagined9433
      @sailingvesselreimagined9433 2 роки тому

      Absolutely. But With the winter weather here it has slowed progress. In the spring I plan on seeing what is going on with the deck. It has a significant amount of fine cracks. The deck seems solid but when I use a moisture meter there are some areas with higher moisture readings. I plan on peeling the gelcoat from the deck to expose the fibreglass and go from there. I may end up recoreing some of the deck. So yes there are more videos to come. Thanks for following along. I am hoping to make more frequent videos in the near future.

    Excellent demonstration (tutorial) for anyone who needs to do the same. Did you come to a conclusion on how the moisture reached the plywood core? If the knee is glassed to the deck and the chain plates are bolted to the outer sides of the knee, can't see how so much moisture got in. Now I understand why my brother on his last visit to my boat said that I should drill a small hole into the knees to check for moisture.

    • @sailingvesselreimagined9433
      @sailingvesselreimagined9433 3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment. I really believed the moisture is coming from the hull to deck joint. I do also see many areas where your brother wrote leak with an arrow pointing to the hull to deck joint. The other possibility of course is the chain plate. My plan is to eliminate the hull to deck joint issue by glassing over the joint. The other thing I have thought about is raising the deck penetration where chain plate goes through the deck. Even if the deck penetration area was 1/2” above the deck I’m thinking this would make it so there is less water in the area of the chain plates. What do you think about this?
