Linear Momentum & Impulse_1.2
A 4.64 g bullet is moving horizontally with a velocity of +360 m/s, where the sign + indicates that it is moving to the right. The bullet is approaching two blocks resting on a horizontal frictionless surface. Air resistance is negligible. The bullet passes completely through the first block and embeds itself in the second one, as shown in the diagram below. The mass of the first block is 1163 g, and its velocity is +0.62 m/s after the bullet passes through it. The mass of the second block is 1506 g.
(a) What is the velocity of the second block after the bullet embeds itself?
(b) What is the impulse experienced by the bullet and block 1 during first collision?
(c) Find the ratio of the total kinetic energy after the collision to that before the collision.

The figure below shows a bullet of mass 27 g moving horizontally at vo = 540 m/s hits a wooden block of mass 2.8 kg initially at rest on a smooth horizontal surface. After the collision the bullet and the wooden block stick and move together. The surface then becomes rough with a coefficient of kinetic friction 𝜇_𝑘=0.2. They move a distance d on the rough surface until they come to a stop. How ...

A 4 g bullet is fired into a 200 g block of wood at rest on a horizontal surface. After impact, the block with the embedded bullet slides 8 m before coming to rest. If the coefficient of friction is 0.4, what is the net work done on the bullet-block system in bring it to rest? what is the speed of the bullet before impact?

Two ice pucks (one orange and one blue) of equal mass are involved in a perfectly elastic glancing collision as shown in the figures below. The orange puck is initially moving to the right at voi = 5.05 m/s, strikes the initially stationary blue puck, and moves off in a direction that makes an angle of θ = 40° with the horizontal axis. Determine the speed of each puck after the collision.

A 3 kg steel ball strikes a massive ball at 10 m/s at an angle of 60o with the plane of the wall. It bounces off the wall with the same speed and angle. Calculate the change in momentum ∆px in the x-direction. Calculate the impulse experienced in the y-direction. If the ball is in contact with the wall for 0.2 s, what is the average force exerted by the wall on the ball?

A block of mass m1 = 1.6 kg, initially moving to the right with a velocity of 4 m/s on a frictionless horizontal track, collides with a massless spring attached to a second block of mass m2 = 2.1 kg moving to the left with a velocity of -2.5 m/s, as shown below. The spring has a spring constant of 600 N/m. Determine the velocity of block 2 at the instant when block 1 is moving to the right with...

As shown in the figure below, a rubber ball with mass m equal to 50 g is dropped from a height of hi = 1.8 m . It collides with a table, then bounces up to a height of hf =1.2 m . The duration of the collision (the time during which the rubber ball is in contact with the table) is tc = 25 ms. Neglect air resistance. (D) Find the magnitude of the average contact force that the table exerts on th...

A 1 kg block is released from rest a height h at the top of a fixed curved ramp of negligible friction. The block slides down the ramp and collides with another block of mass 1.5 kg at rest at the bottom of the ramp. The two blocks stick together and move with a speed of 5 m/s, as shown in the diagram below. Determine the initial height h.

A ball of mass 2 kg, initially moving eastward at a rate of 1.5 m/s, is acted on by a force F which varies with time t as shown by the force-time graph below. What is the ball’s momentum p(t) at t = 4 s? What is the ball’s kinetic energy KE at t = 4 s? Determine the impulse experienced by the ball during the interval t = 0 → 8 s. Calculate the ball’s change in velocity Δv during the interval t ...

The diagram below shows a bullet being shot through a stationary wooden block. The wooden block has a mass of 1.4 kg. Before it hits the wooden block, the bullet has an initial speed of 284 m/s. After it goes through the wooden block, the bullet has a speed of 234 m/s and the wooden block moves with a velocity of 0.43 m/s to the east. Ignoring the effects of air resistance and friction, and ass...

In a particular crash test, a car of mass 1,260 kg collides with a wall as shown in the figure. The initial and final speeds of the car are vi = 16 m/s and vf = 2.1 m/s, respectively. If the collision lasts 0.1 s, (A) find the impulse caused by the collision. (B) find the average net force exerted on the car. (C) calculate the change in kinetic energy ∆KE.
CORRECTION: Answer is 900 W, NOT 980 W.
Well explained sir thank you
The net force is not F_c.
For part E, isn't the net force just the centripetal force I.e the normal contact force ? Since the object is moving in circle, the net force should point towards centre of circle?
A good question that makes you challenge basic concepts. Although I found the explanations easy to follow and good enough, the perspective in the illustration is a bit confusing. Thanks!
go 2 sleep 🐟
Im a foreigner who has no connection with you or anyone in that matter, but your video is very cool. Thumbs up
woah i have it on my phone 😄
Refraction is the bending of rays as it enters a medium with different index of refraction, causing wave speed and wavelength to change.
Sir what is refraction of light
how come you plugged in a positive 9.8 for the g of earth?
hmmm why do you name your channel "Little Saigon"?
physics lookin a little different
Nice one
This is helpful with AP Physics 1
The statement should have been "Three forces....", NOT "Two forces...'"......
okay but one question, how come that is the maximum acceleration m2 can handle? like how do u know its the maximum
The max acceleration of the top block in this problem is dictated by the coefficient of static friction between the surfaces of the two blocks.
@@LittleSaigonWackoh i see, so we assume that given value is the maximum
Hey Mr.Wack stay motivated I believe you will soon get 10k subscribers ❤
How's Berkeley treating you Prodigy?
Long story. I’ll tell you during my visit in Thanksgiving/winter break or with an email some time later. Small spoil but your diet plan is 80% done. 😊
I am very happy to hear that you stuck with the diet plan. :) Good job physics prodigy.
Add some mass to the pulleys for fun. 😉
incredible joke at 0:00
Cảm ơn thầy Lương 🙏
Love your content man really inspiring
I meant to say "position vs time graph" @ around the 18:35 minute mark, NOT "velocity vs. time".
omg it’s this type of question I love you Mr Luong -hung
It is going to be ok Henry.
