This channel is intended for the discussion of all things music (particularly metal & rock/indie/alternative) as well as sci fi, horror and fantasy related books and films.
I love the idea of having the platform to share thoughts and feelings with a community of others who share said passions !

The 2024 Honourable Mentions (30-25)
I talk about six albums that didn't quite make my year end list, but still easily deserve honourable mentions. As per my introduction, these are basically the albums that appear on a much longer list between no's 30 and 25.

Fazerdaze 'Soft Power' Album Review (Another strong late 2024 release?)
Переглядів 4714 днів тому
Singer songwriter and producer Amelia Murray is back with her second album 'Soft Power' after a 7 year gap since debut 'Morningside'. Thematically, this album explores the complexities of womanhood, and musically incorporates more electronics and synth into her dreampop sound. You can download or buy the vinyl of the album via the link below: fazerdaze.bandcamp.com/album/soft-power
Opeth 'The Last Will and Testament' Album Review
Переглядів 9214 днів тому
Opeth return with their 14th studio album, the conceptual 'The Last Will and Testament'. Many are lauding this album and calling it a 'return to form'. I share my thoughts on this latest release, which sees the band telling a story about a wealthy patriarch, his last will for his family and the drama that ensues. Musically this derives from old and new eras of Opeth, the end result being someth...
Ten of My Favourite Things (Ranked!)
Переглядів 4421 день тому
I'm following in the footsteps of Andy Edwards, Pete Pardo and Scot Lade's channels in naming ten of my favourite things outside of the usual scope of The Green Man. This is more in the name of fun than anything else, and shines a light on other loves of mine beyond music & horror films.
Poppy 'Negative Spaces' Album Review (Am I A New Fanboy?)
Переглядів 46121 день тому
Poppy leans into heavier territories whilst still showcasing her ability to be a versatile artist. 'Negative Spaces' is a diverse record that offers something very different from last year's 'Zig'. This impassioned and hard-hitting album explores the difficulty of an identity struggle and finding self motivation. The new LP can be purchased via the link below: sumerianmerch.co.uk/products/poppy...

Symphonic Sundays Episode 11: Beyond The Black Albums Ranked! (Plus Top 5 Songs)
It’s my all time favorite PF album. Perfection in its entirety!❤❤❤❤❤
I want to see Nosferatu, no Moana 2 😂. I did see Dune part 2 very good film. I am watching Dune Prophecy series now on Max.
Yeah I'd like to see Nosferatu as well. Is it already out in Puerto Rico? It's coming out 1 January in UK.
@ I think xmas here
Nice one Tom, always pick up something to check out from your lists lad 👍
Awesome. Hope you find something you like here
Haven’t seen any of those. The first Gladiator is one of my dad’s favorite movies but I hadn’t heard great things about the sequel so I wasn’t interested. I did hear Dune 2 was great
As a spectacle, I think Gladiator 2 is great but flawed in other ways (e.g characters and plot). Dune 2 is well worth a look. Check out the top 2 here too if you get the chance.
Thanks Tom, couple I am interested in checking out here. Can I ask how much time you spend listening to music lad ? Cheers 👍
Thanks dude - I might just add that to my Q&As /roundup video and will answer in that :)
@ Ok Tom 👍, that’s cool lad.
We share the same top 2. Didn't gel with them at first but they just grew on me so much. Thats a nice list you have. My top 5 also includes Judas Priest, Nemophila and Kanonfeiber. Other albums i really liked in no order... Flotsam and Jetsam Lutharo Infected Rain Kittie 200 Stab Wounds Hiraes Dark Tranquillity Poppy The Warning Billie Eilish Rotting Christ Necrowretch Fleshgod Apocalypse Fave EPs: Lovebites Hanabie
Great picks there. I think I liked the Lutharo too come to think of it.
Good picks Tom.
Cheers Hector
I enjoyed the Alestorm EP that dropped this past March!

Thanks - great list there! I really liked the Tribulation actually. That could have made my list on another day.
Iotunn and Opeth were in my list. Also loved Alcest, Blood Incantation, Thy Catafalque..
@Hellenicheavymetal loved the Alcest too! Blood Incantation was great - I just thought it would be on a lot of other lists. Thanks for checking out the video 👍
I would have liked it if you had had nominated some of the best tracks from each album. It makes them easier to check out.
Thanks for the feedback. I do like to vary what I say about each album a little so as not to be too repetitive.
@ I understand but I don’t think naming your favourite tracks on an album really qualifies as repetitive. Most album reviewers do it . Maybe if you leave a link to any album reviews so we can check them out ?
My top 10 (no particular order): Paula Teles - Desencanto Vola - Friend of a Phantom Imminence - The Black Poppy - Negative Spaces Gaerea - Coma Fleshgod Apocalypse - Opera Michael Schenker - My Years with UFO Moon Healer - Job for a Cowboy Exocrine - Legend Iotunn - Kinship
@@blueandwhiteeighttwo great list I still need to listen to the Vola album
A very polished video. You seem to be speaking with a lot more confidence lately. Cannot say that I have heard of many of these albums but I am sure many will be appearing on other peoples best of 2024 lists. My real surprise ( apart from the 80s pop albums) was that David Gilmour made it. Whilst technically very good I did find the album not much better than good background music.
Wow. Unleash the archer was one of my disappointing albums. A lot of ppl like that album. Cheers
Yeah I love that album. Still quite new to them. Really dig Apex too. I just watched your video and sounds like you know the band pretty well?
@ back in 2009 we did a small tour with them. They gave us a place to sleep in Vancouver. Now only Brittany and the drummer are in the band.
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA that sounds amazing! Small world.
Great list. I have a mix of metal and other genres in my list too: 1. Blood Incantation- Absolute Elsewhere 2. Opeth - The Last Will and Testament 3. Caligula’s Horse - Charcoal Grace 4. @samkilgore2373 Awesome list thanks! The Blood Incantation one is a popular choice (obviously not on my list 🤫)
Yes it’s great, if you haven’t listened to it yet you should check it out!

So many good picks here. I got to check out some of these, which I haven't listened to so far. I have been listening to Poppy for several years now, irregularly. Never thought I would see her on this channel, but this new album went into heavier direction. Wonder if she is going to do another big pivot with the next one.
Thanks dude! I kind of hope she stays metal/metalcore but I still appreciate her versatility
Hey Tom. I was looking forward too this video, and you didn’t disappoint. Well presented as always, also you seemed to have a more relaxed manner about you here, which was nice to see lad. 👍
Thanks dude appreciate that 👍 & glad you enjoyed the video 😀
I did a top 20 video over the weekend of my favorite albums of this year.
Awesome will check it out
Good selections! My 2024 Favorites 1. Blood Incantation 2. Dark Tranquility 3. Gatecreeper 4. HammerFall 5. Judas Priest 6. Octoploid 7. Stryper 8. Sunbomb 9. Unleash the Archers 10. Unto Others
Great picks there. I missed the Dark Tranquillity completely 😮
Dude! The Allie X album was fantastic! Excellent choice
Great one 👌 👍
@ What did you think of Lauren Mayberry’s album?
@RockOfAllAges-81 decent. Need still more time with it. Maybe would make a top 40 or 50.
We have a few in common but in different placements
Nice - Look forward to finding out which ones we match on
@ soon
Great video and nice picks! I love a lot of those albums. A few I haven't heard as well, so you have given me some more exploring to do. Cheers!
You're welcome @HammerheartMetalReviews glad you enjoyed the video & thanks for tuning in. Look forward to your top 25👍
I saw Longlegs and I thought it was terrible.
@hectorThechilldudeonacouch fair enough dude I enjoyed that one. Have you seen The Substance?
@ no and I also wanna see Heretic
@ Longlegs for me was Silence of the lambs but with bad acting lol
Do you have a bonus honorable at 25?
@@hectorThechilldudeonacouch Yep although not mentioned in this video
Another great list Tom .😀
@@Simon-vt1zp Thank you 😊 👍
Late night with the devil for me was way better then the longlegs. Smile 2 is real good i think is even better then the substance. In violant nature is much higer in my list too i would change that one for Abigali that for me was pretty as* ngl. But in general i agreed. Lets see if Nosferatu can become a top 5 as well. Hype for that one
That's cool, I think you might have been the one to recommend Late Night with the Devil - great stuff. Yeah Smile 2 is one of the ones I really wanted to see but couldn't get round to it. Look forward to watching it when it's on streaming services or comes out on DVD.
Love that album. Never understood why it wasn't more liked?
Hi Tom, Q's: (i) do you like The Cure? Have you listened to their brand new record and if you did, what is your opinion about it? (ii) if you had to pick out some artists for your dream band, whom would these be in a lineup consisting of 5 people? Thanks, Konnie
@kshvedoff9348 Thanks for the qs Konnie
🤘
Hey Tom, I have a question for your upcoming Q and A video. I’m a big fan of the “Name of the Wind” books, which you did a review of. My question is …Do you think this series will ever get made into a movie or Netflix series ? And what are your thoughts about this ? Maybe which actors you would like to see in it ? 👍
@@Simon-vt1zp cool q. Will let you know in thr video
It’s a great one
I remember this interview
Great guest - lots of fun to interview
Tease me Tom 😂. I will be watching.
Haha yeah I'm a right tease. Awesome thanks dude. Will watch your vids too
@ I will film one for EP’s too
Sounds like some good stuff coming up Tom lad 👍
Thanks dude - always find the end of year stuff super enjoyable to do :)
Correction for 2:30 : I say In Blue is the third track but it's actually the fifth track on the album
Will have to check this one out.
Think you'll quite like this one Hector - one for chilling to on the couch with a hot drink 👍
Nice review Tom! I've only listened to a small amount of Opeth's music, I like them but just never really sat down and listened to them much. I'll have to try this album out, I think I'll probably like it more than most of their recent stuff. Cheers 😁🤘🏻
Thanks Josh! Awesome - it's definitely worth checking out their older albums but I can't think of an Opeth album I don't like as I like the prog rock stuff too 👍
@thegreenman4925 You're welcome mate! Yeah I'm super late to the party with Opeth, I have Blackwater Park and Heritage (both gifted to me) but that's as far as I've gone. I think it's the album runtimes that have put me off honestly, but I've definitely wanted to check out more. The older albums for definite, but that's cool you enjoy all their output, you are a huge prog guy so that makes sense. Nice 😁🤘🏻
Killer review my friend. I hope you’re well.
Thanks dude! Yeah all good here hope you're good too 👍
It's a great record from them 🌶
This album will probably be at #1 on my year end list, currently occupied by The Last Dinner Party. Certainly, it will be in my top 4.
An amazing record. I will review this one with Weslie from Moths and we will go track by track in Spanish.
@hectorThechilldudeonacouch sounds good will check that out. Might have to turn on the translation option though 😂
@ my laptop giving me problems hope to fix
@@hectorThechilldudeonacouch the laptop doesn't speak Spanish?
It has some real moments where it gets too slow and soft/light but a part from that, has a very diversify of flavours and a peculiar flavour overall has a good Kick that i think works well with the harsh vocals and a sort of distopian kinda "torment vibe" that is hard to pull up... the peculiar flavour overall is of my peesonal taste but that sort of ruaric vintage hunted house vibe can be weird for people that live in a reality that is more progressive big city metropholish may not resonate maby... I think is pretty great.
I agree there is definitely a sense of torment about the album & a peculiar flavour.
This was a cool video. I like British Comedy, but I was never exposed to a lot of it. I remember watching the Benny Hill show when I was a kid. I have seen a lot of Monty Python movies and that sitcom called Miranda was one of the funniest shows that I have ever seen. I am also a cat and dog person, although I might be leaning towards cats as they are more independant as opposed to dogs who are very needy and need to be around you all the time, but if you have dogs you will never feel alone. You can probably tell that my house is full of pets.
Love the Monty Python films! Yeah pets are fun and great to have around. Good for improving your mood and things like that 👍
I saw Barbara this past April. She joined Alestorm onstage for two songs filling in for Patty Gurdy.
@@robertsparling917 Awesome! Hope it was a good gig!
