    Love these Canon Autoboys/Sure Shots/Primas etc. Once I buy one it is tempting to buy more. I have a Sure Shot Owl and an Autoboy N105. Both are nice. They do have rather slow lenses though, the faster f/3.5 on the Prima Mini 2 looks appealing in that regard.

      Thanks for sharing! Those Canon Autoboy/Sure Shot/Prima series are definitely addictive-it’s easy to see why you’d want more! The Sure Shot Owl and Autoboy N105 are solid choices, and while the slower lenses can be a bit limiting in low light, they still deliver that classic Canon sharpness. The Prima Mini 2 with the f/3.5 lens is definitely appealing for its speed and portability. It’s a nice upgrade if you're looking for a more versatile compact. Let me know if you end up picking one up!

      Thanks so much! 😊 Long exposure is such a fun way to get creative with your shots! For tripods, I’d recommend looking at options from Peak Design and Manfrotto-they’re compact yet sturdy, perfect for on-the-go setups. As for cable releases, the Neewer or Vello models are reliable and won’t break the bank. Have fun experimenting with those long exposure shots, and let me know if you have any other questions!

    Still regret selling mine 😢 putting the shutter speed dial around the lens mount is genius, it’s basically the same to operate with your left hand regardless of orientation. The OTF metering also controlled dedicated flash units, making flash photography near foolproof. Beautiful Zuiko lenses too.

    • @princeofrenaissance
      @princeofrenaissance Місяць тому

      Totally agree - they really thought through the ergonomics on those! Having the shutter speed around the lens mount is such a unique design, making adjustments feel natural and intuitive. And yes, that OTF metering paired with dedicated flash units made it so easy to get perfect shots. Not to mention, Zuiko lenses are some of the best for color and sharpness. I can see why you’d regret parting with it!

    My only gripe is the lack of shutter lock. It should've been linked with the off position on the switch somehow. I hate pulling the camera out of my bag thinking it's on auto but it's actually off and I waste a frame, or the shutter button gets pressed in the bag again wasting a frame. Other than that it's a perfect camera. It actually has 2 different light meter sensors built in, one of the film behind the mirror and one in the prism to show you the expected shutter speed in auto and the reccomended shutter speed in manual. The prism light meter in mine is not functional so I get no metering in manual but it still works perfect in auto. I need to get mine sent off to the zuiko guy before he completely retires.

    • @princeofrenaissance
      @princeofrenaissance Місяць тому

      I totally get that frustration! It would make a big difference if the shutter lock was tied to the off switch, especially for preventing accidental shots while it’s in your bag. Having to waste frames like that is such a pain. The dual light meter setup sounds amazing though, giving you that extra level of control in both auto and manual. It’s too bad the prism meter in yours isn’t working, but at least auto still functions well. Hopefully, you can get it to the Zuiko guy soon-it's always better to get these things fixed before experts retire!

    I'm looking at one for 200€. The only thing that could annoy me are the non-covered lens (I think I want to carry it from time to time in my pocket) and the mode-reset every time you turn the camera on. I'd forget it and a flash could ruin a shot..

    • @princeofrenaissance
      @princeofrenaissance 2 місяці тому

      The Leica Mini 2 is a great compact camera, but I get your concerns. The non-covered lens is definitely something to consider, especially if you plan on carrying it in your pocket regularly. A case or a small pouch might be a good investment to protect the lens from scratches and dust. As for the mode reset, this model is known to have a quirk. Each time you turn it on, it defaults to auto flash, which can be annoying if you're not careful. It’s definitely something to keep in mind, as forgetting to turn off the flash could spoil a shot in the wrong lighting. If these two things are dealbreakers, you might want to explore other compact options with more customizable settings.

    • @WOUUUTT
      @WOUUUTT 2 місяці тому

      @@princeofrenaissance do you know how sensitive the autoflash is? Like, on a "normal" daytime, will it still flash?

    • @princeofrenaissance
      @princeofrenaissance 2 місяці тому

      @@WOUUUTT Autoflash is quite sensitive. In normal daylight, it usually won’t fire, but in cloudy or shadowy conditions, it might still activate. Since the flash turns on by default every time, you’ll need to watch for that in varied lighting.

      The Leica Mini 2 is more compact and simpler with its fixed 35mm f/3.5 lens, while the Leica Mini Zoom Vario-Elmar 35-70mm offers more versatility with its zoom lens, though the Mini 2 is often preferred for its sharper optics and lighter weight for greater portability. After a little Googling it looks like the Leica was made by Minolta or at least the lens was and the electronics were made by Matsushita.
