@@Tricky2109 just because they had slaves doesn't mean the north fought for slavery. the border states were loyal to the union, as every state should be, and made the correct decision that the evil institution of slavery was not worth sending millions to die for, and that preserving the union was worth more than what slavery was worth.

@@user-ng5xf5jm3d Oh, I know. Outside of his role as a union general in the civil war, Sherman was actually a pretty bad guy. My go to example is that he was a strong proponent of g£n0ciding the native Americans. He is definitely burning in hell with the confederates.

@author2423 Most old stock Americans are able to view the war with more objectivity and nuance. People who don't have those historical ties are more willing to make generalizations based on ignorance, with their primary sources being their public school education or memes they saw on the internet.

No, they do not have that right. The Constitution doesn’t say states have the rights to secede. What it does say is the Constitution is the law of the land, and federal law reigns over state law when they clash. The framers of the Constitution said that the Union between the states has to be adopted fully, and this idea of being able to leave later was ridiculous and never accepted. After the war this was hammered in a 3rd time with Texas v White, in which it was said the United States was “an indestructible union”, and states had no right to break it up because an election didn’t go their way.

As a neutral person (I'm not into politics but into History) I personally agree to this. Most civilians doesn't really focus on their economy input but their nation. And for that I respect both sides.
