I just discovered this song listening to Wild Life (underrated album) i knew it was about John but when he said "I'm in love with a friend of mine" i lost it.

The reason there bond was so strong was the 2 things they had in common when they met as teenagers was 1 both would soon be motherless and 2 there shared love of songwriting both never knew anyone else that did that at the time. It was fate they both met on that day in 1957 the 2 greatest singer songwriters who only lived 1.2 miles away from eachother.

“I’m in love with a friend of mine” and then people tell us we’re delusional for saying Paul and John were in love with each other. They literally kept saying so.

Paul's Peak! (His 'real' genius period) His best songs from the period: 1968 - 1973 Let It Be The Long And Winding Road Blackbird Lady Madonna Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da Goodbye You Never Give Me Your Number Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End She Came In Trough The Bathroom Window Oh Darling! I Will Two Of Us Mother Nature's son Junk Hey Jude Helter Skelter Get Back The Back Seat Of My Car (his best song) Dear Friend Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey Little Lamb Dragonfly Some People Never Know Too Many People Dear Boy My Love Maybe I'm Amazed Smile Away Picasso's Last Words Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five Monkberry Moon Delight Band On The Run Red Rose Speedway Medley Mama's Little Girl Mary Had A Little Lamb Live And Let Die C Moon Loup Long Haired Lady Ram On Another Day Bluebird Tomorrow Wild Life Every Night Man We Was Lonely Like every song is a Masterpiece! And that many in only less than 6 years!!! Think about that for a second... He is the best composer of all time (including Mozart, Bach, Brian Wilson, Paul Simon, Tchaikovsky and all others). But keep one thing in mind guys, i'm strictly talking about composition (he is also one the best when it comes to lyrics but his musical skills overshadow his poetic/lyrical skills).

What I love about this song is not only how much Paul is pouring his heart to settle things with John but also the listeners the song is about to end…but he comes back singing “Dear Friend” again! As if he just doesn’t want to end the song and keeps trying and trying to get his message across clear. Listen to “Now and Then” and listen to John’s first lyrics…”It’s true”. Maybe a response to this song?

Dear friend, throw the wine I'm in love with a friend of mine Really truly, young and newly wed Are you afraid, or are you blue? Dear friend, what's the time? Is this really the border line? I heard an interview with John in about 1974 I think where he mentions this song while talking about the messages that Paul was sending him in songs, he didn't say much about it just went on to say that it didn't matter anymore because they'd become friends again and stopped all the bickering. I don't know if he talked about it anywhere else.

The friends I've had like that are wonderfully incredibly dear to me also. And I feel like John was my friend too. You know, I think that was one of the Beatles' biggest gifts to the world, along with their terrific inspiringly surprising music of course: their cheerful welcomingness and encouragement to everybody, to the world. They were so marvelous, and they made you/us feel like you were-not could be, but WERE-friends with them also. It was/is an amazing validation of human-to-human connection. I mean texting=isolation, hello (goodbye).

It is quite evident, over the years, that it was Paul who sustained the name and life of the Beatles. Though it was John and George that gave in to the bitterness of the legend. It was the public that utterly destroyed the group. I was young enough to never make a bit of a difference. Was never a real fan until well after their bitter divorce. I go on record stating that Motown was my first line in music standards. Now, I enjoy a somewhat normal love and affection for their very much loved music.
