    What they don't teach you about the Vietnam War is cruel, and it's this: every single person who died in that war died for absolutely nothing. Every person who was mentally and emotionally scarred (PTSD), who lost a limb, who left family members without closure and suffered other devastating effects-did so for nothing! It was an illegal war waged by corrupt U.S. politicians. Douglas MacArthur warned President Kennedy not to do it, and when President Kennedy listened to his advice, the war mongers in the U.S. simply had Lyndon Johnson, one of the most corrupt presidents the United States has ever known (and who I believe was complicit in murder of President Kennedy) do it. Regardless, so many lives lost, so much pain. And for absolutely nothing. President Truman wanted to employ the same no-win policies for Korea, and when MacArthur pushed back, they got rid of him.

      History is so much richer and more complex when we consider the voices of the marginalized and the 'losers' of history. We need to dig deeper and seek out those untold stories! It's highlighting the importance of critical thinking when studying the past.

      Luftwaffe's failure to dominate the skies over Britain had a significant impact on German morale. The RAF's successful defense boosted British morale and solidified the resolve of the Allies. I heard a historian say, the Roman Legions one their battles more with the spade than with the sword. Building forts, border fortification, but also roads and bridges to faster transmit goods and messages. Of course also aqueduct and public bath houses, toilets and sewers. Most advanced was probably the colosseum to entertain the people. Had lifts, Labyrinthe and could even be flooded to reenact sea battles.

  • @volkerseeliger5523
    @volkerseeliger5523 Місяць тому

    Roman legiinairs also learned some useful support - craft. So they were always busy - not just in times of War. In the Roman camp that was next to my village, they produced bricks. I heard on historian say, the legions won their battles more with the spade than with the sword. They fortified positions, build bridges and roads. To keep an empire this size, is a lot about logistics.

    The sack of Rome by Celts did not shake the ancient world. At the time, Rome was a middling power in the middle of the Italian peninsula. Greek city states ruled the Aegean, Sicily, and Southern Italy. Persia was the largest empire.

    That is annoyingly brief. The important element, which tends to be forgotten by most, is why the crusades happened, which of course contextualises the entire reason for Christendom's war on the Heathen hordes of Islam. Unlike today, the Holyland had been mostly Christianised by the Eastern Roman Empire since the reign of Constantine the Great. This lasted until the conquest of Syria and the Levant in 634 to 638 by Abu Bakr. Under Islamic rule, Christian's were forced to subject themselves to Islam or to face persecution and enslavement. Islam continued to expand, conquering most of Iberia, and pushing the Byzantines to the edges of the Anatolian Coast. This pushed the Eastern Orthodox Byzantines to request for aid from his Catholic rivals against the newly emerging Seljuk Empire, which Pope Urban the second Obliged by calling for the First Crusade, probably the first form of International co-operation the World had seen, retaking the Holy land, from the Muslims, and persevering against the Islamic horde. It was a shame, that Personal ambition, secularism, and greed not only saw the Muslims reconquer the Holyland, but also eliminating the last bastion into Europe, the Byzantine Empire. The last of the true sons of Rome. But this war against Islam was probably the most righteous war in Human history. Because first and foremost, it wasn't a war for expansion, but rather of Reclamation. And it is a great shame that historians tend to suggest the Crusades were wars of Ignorance and bigotry against a supposedly enlightened people. So enlightened that over a thousand years later they're still the same barbarians who commit rape and murder as a part of their culture, whose faith is the epitome of ignorance and bigotry, which should have been cast back into the darkness where it belonged rather than allowed to have spread to the misery of Humanity.

      @HistoryTaughtEasy Місяць тому

      Hey, thanks for your comment it is true that some Christians faced persecution under Islamic rule, many others lived relatively peacefully within Islamic societies, often enjoying a degree of autonomy and protection as "People of the Book." The call for the First Crusade by Pope Urban II was indeed a response to the Byzantine request for assistance You can join my private community on Discord where I discuss history and life in general) discord.gg/GcEzJSsT

    The war finished in 1922 when the UK, USA & France went to fight in Russia (against it's new communist government) as soon as the Germans and Austrians surrendered, it was a part of WW1 last 'moments'.
