I was 15 when this was released, I had never heard Ray Charles, and I instantly thought that was the best song I had ever heard and felt some kind of nostalgia of a past time I never lived. I think there is a word in Japanese for that.

The 306 was great. Low down and looked great. Mine always needed a repairs though

the torsion bar rear suspension is great.. when it isn't 25 years old mine used to throw itself off the road at 130+ kph because of this, at least a 500 euro repair only for it to last a year or so. The rear left bearing gave out and you could basically camber the wheel with your hands lmao

He picked the Golf................. Good build quality when new but not that great in time. Also one of the dullest cars I've ever driven, just completely wooden.

The worst golf GTI of all

I have a 306 and adore it - but to most friends and family, I‘d recommend the Golf as well. Few people can appreciate the incredible chassis of the 306 and then the Golf is from another planet when it comes to all the fit and finish details. For me? I’ll keep my 306 forever.

I have a 1994 L registered 306, only a little 1.4i, but I absolutely love it. She’s on 95,000 miles now and she still looks brand new, though, that could be my careful maintenance. The handling is fantastic, but the ride is very comfortable. Actually completed a 560 mile round road trip and it still had 10 litres of fuel in the tank.

Noone really talks about the Peugeot 306 anymore. While 205 is a cult classic.

Gti6 was an exceptional car for its time. Still my favourite car

A nice little car with a little pleasant handling side to it. Not ago cart car by any means, but better than a boring nissan or toyota. Still, I really don't get this "superb handling" thing. It really wasn't superb by any standards. I liked more the pleasant and ergonomic interior. As for the Jaguar interior, pretty much any other car will have a larger cabin than a Jaguar

I owned a 306 when I lived in France in the 1990s. It was the 1.6 liter version. I loved it! Great car!

You won't believe this. I am on my 3rd 306 HDI. I have had two 306 Hdi's written off; one was a front end crash, and the other was a side crash, a bit similar to the video. In the first accident I was doing 40 mph. The other car failed to stop at a crossroads and I crashed straight into it. I mashed in the front right side of my engine bay. The crumpling just stopped short of the windscreen. In the second accident I was doing 50mph. I was passing a lorry on the motorway, and the lorry pulled out from lane 1 to lane 2. Luckily the lorry hit me at an angle. The front step of the cab rammed into the Peugeot A pillar. The damage to the whole side was gruesome. I had severe bruising to my forearm in the first crash. I came to with my head in the smoking airbag. The air bags saved me from further injury both times. Good old Peugeot 306's. I would not want to be in a high-speed crash.

I didn't own a Mk4 GTi but I did have the 170bhp V5. That was a terrific engine, but the rest of the car was a let down. Especially in terms of reliability and handling.
