Retro Bit Prism Gamecube Component Cable Review - What you need to know
Love these types of videos! I got a used Competition Pro third party memory card with my GameCube back in late 2018. It only had one save file on it but it was an MGS: The Twin Snakes file from 2007. Seems like the previous owner got stuck on a level and never bothering finishing it.
I personally just said fuck retro game prices and shelled out money for a ez flash omega de
I wanted to buy one of those with a pre-paid gift card I was given for Christmas but Aliexpress said "no" to me. Like games like: "The Legend of Zelda The Minish Cap" or "A Link to the Past and Four Swords" for instance, I would not be able to buy in Japanese, because I am unable to read Japanese text and getting this device would allow me to play those games on my Gamecube very easily. Same goes for Metroid fusion. I want to play them on my Gamecube, but they're too expensive for me, imo. I might just cave and get one eventually, because the definitive edition would be so awesome to have.
@N68dodgeboy i got mine on Amazon a few years back
Thank you very much
You're welcome! :D
Great video about a great game. I bought the USA version of the game (only cartridge) some years ago (for around 100$) for two reasons. 1) I understand english, not Japanese. 2) The game never officially arrived in Europe ... so.
Wow! I did not know that the game did not release in the wider PAL region. Apparently it only released in Australia... Now I wonder... How rare is that game in Australia??? Or is it just a direct copy of the North American copies of the game.
So I just did a quick search on ebay for recently sold copies in Australia and the cartridge looks exactly like how it does in North America, but without the ESRB rating logo on it! The Australian copies of this game must be the rarest!
How did you backup you Savegame on Gamecube? (I have Swiss and would like to know the Application pretty please)
I did it through the Gameboy Interface... Give me a second to look it up again. Also, you unfortunately can only back up GBA save files and not GBC save files. So my Pokemon Silver saves and the original Kirby Tilt and Tumble saves were not able to be backed up using only the Gameboy Player.
I found it. This link: consolemods.org/wiki/GBA:Creating_Game_Backups explains how you do it and this is how I did it myself. My Gamecube has an SD2SP so that's where I put my files by loading it via a microSD card. On this page, press "CTRL + F" (if you're on Windows) and type: "Interface" and it should lead you to the information you need when you click the next arrow when it searches the page.
Alternatively, if you have a DS and a flash cart, you can also back up saves using that method, again only being able to back up GBA save files.
@@N68dodgeboy Its a starting! Thank you
@ You're welcome. :)
We need this Game in Switch Online! It is the best Gyro Game Kirby Tilt'n'Tumble is kinda ok and Yoshi Topsy Turvy is kinda underwealming (I wish it wasn't Objective focused) So I hope Wario Ware is next on NSO
I agree with you! It would make an amazing addition for Switch Online Expansion pack members (especially if they don't own a GBA and don't want to work through the hassle of emulating)
I have both the carts.
@@Rons-Fansubs I also played all of them physical... I even own an In Box Copy of US Twisted with an australian Manual. Good Score
I got a GBA SP and a Japanese copy of Wario Land 4. The cartridge was 9 bucks (US), the console was in amazing condition and about 130 bucks (US). I have no regrets.
what i do personally is i play emulated versions on nintendo hardware through homebrew, usually i play console on console and handheld on handheld with exceptions like the nes/snes which can easily be played on both
This makes sense to do as well. What I really love doing, is playing DS games on the Wii U. That was such a genius idea that Nintendo came up with for a use case for the Wii U.
nooo, they both gotta be in the same multiplayer menu, that's how you connect in amazing mirror
I'm not sure what you mean. Did I not do it right? Now you have me curious...
@ yea, you did it wrong, you gotta go in the multiplayer menu in both gameboys, same thing with the sub-games, you did the single-pak version and not multi-pak, the reason the main mode didn't work is it's not single-pak compatible basically, go in the main mode multiplayer in the american version, and try the same with the japanese version no guarantee it'll work still, but that's how you connect normally with amazing mirror
@ Okay. I see. I will try it again.
@@laserninja2027 I tried it and all it did was show: "Transmitting" infinitely (I tested this on my GBAs and by using an emulator). So what you wrote is in fact how you link multiplayer. I confirmed this by testing it in an emulator, but either way, doing it between a JP and NA cart in the manner you told me, did not work sadly. Either way, thank-you for your comment to correct my error in doing my test for the video. Like I said in the video, both carts were practically invisible to each other.
@ oh yea, that is an odd message to put in, but from what you tried, seems like it still doesn't work :(
This video could be at least 6 minutes shorter without all the yapping
Facts. Arial012 is in speedrun mode. Video%
Just emulate lol
It's just not the same feel as owning a physical cartridge, but yes emulation is an option.
@@N68dodgeboy Just flash your own cart, lol
This is also possible. I have not done this myself.
bro didn’t watch the video
Same with Amazing Mirror🙏
100% agree. I just couldn't really make that statement since I bought a US copy of Amazing Mirror before I bought both games for $7 each in Japanese. Plus the video was about Nightmare in Dreamland, but you are definitely correct.
Nice gameplay 😊
0:31 shows how badly inflated the retro gaming market has become
Pretty much. Still, I'm glad that I have a copy of this game, even if it is not in English.
i bought a Japanese version a month ago because the North American prices are ridiculous! only spent 30 bucks usd on my Japanese copy!
It's such an awesome GBA game. Especially for the time, definitely one of the coolest ones. $30 USD for a Japanese copy is still much cheaper than buying a NA copy, so you did good on that part. :)
@ definitely is
@@tsumuriah2475 Probably cause the game sold more in Japan than in the US.
100th like
One thing you should learn that the American copies of Warioware twisted have faulty batteries. Bought the game years ago for 20 bucks and it never worked. Japanese copies are more consistent to work.
Really? WarioWare Twisted has a clock battery in it for saving? Or is the battery for the rumble motor?
@ so to explain. I brought three copies of twisted (English version) back in 2017 when they were much cheaper. I even bought one in the box. Each one had the same problem with the Gyro, not working. So I got a Japanese copy to test it out. Work immediately with no issues. Maybe I might just be unlucky with a copy that I bought, but I’ve tried with three and even tried on a friend’s copy who had for years had the same issue.
@@jumpmadmadness1222 Interesting...
I got a US copy in like 2014 for $15 complete in box. It's crazy just how expensive it has gotten. My copy is still in perfect condition and it's definitely the best Warioware game ever released.
What is the save data exploit you used? Do you need a copy of splinter cell?
Actually it works with a lot of Gamecube games. It does not have to be Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, but Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is usually the cheapest game you can do this with. Here's a full list of exploitable titles you can use on the Nintendo Gamecube in order to run the Gameboy Interface on your console after having copied the exploited save file and the actual Game Boy Interface dol file to your memory card: github.com/GameCubeHomebrew/GameSave-Exploits You will need a softmodded Wii in order to easily load the save game exploit to your memory card, but there are probably other ways to achieve this as well.
@N68dodgeboy ah! Ok! Thanks! I've heard of this before but I never really tried it.
5:47 That’s exactly how I spent my bus rides home after school in 2005 lol Interestingly, the boot up calibration test requires a few moments of no movement in order to continue, which made playing on the bus difficult. But if you opened the test while the bus made a stop, it was just enough time to register no movement! Surprisingly, the game wasn’t too difficult to play in a moving vehicle haha
Cool story. Thank-you for sharing :)
3:57 The Japanese text where the save files are, state how far into the game the player is and also, I did back up the save file for this cartridge too and originally all three save files were occupied and that double 100% save file was one of the original save files, but I erased the other two, which did not have as much progress.
Hi
@@Intriga1220 Hello
Thank goodness I got my copy before it got so expensive. (Christmas of 2014)
I wish I bought Gamecube games from 2012 - 2014 when they were cheapest.
I'd like to include; From my own experience, Twisted (as well as other GBA games with a gyroscope) emulates quite well on PS Vita, as it actually has that feature. I'm still unable to test if the 2001 build of Diddy Kong Pilot's tilt controls are functional though, seeing as it was dumped as a .elf file
Jesus Christ I don't know it was that expensive.
What if you don't have an existing Xbox Live account? Does Insignia account serve as a substitute?
It does. By registering for an Insognia account, it will allow you to play the game offline easily now. (And online too of course)
11:32 “Oh! Looks like you did well. It won't be so easy from now on!” is what Wario says about the other games after him.
So I can play the UK DLC of Sonic 06 in my US copy with this method?
Assuming you are custom firmware'd or running PS3 Hen, I would assume that you would play the UK DLCs with a UK copy of the game in order to make it work. That being said, this video was covering region changing for the purpose of playing PS2 game discs on a backwards compatible PS3. Another thing of note is that PS3 games are not region locked in almost all circumstances. So... either way you look at it, you should try running a UK copy of Sonic the Hedgehog instead of a North American copy in order to use the DLCs. If when you run the UK copy you don't see the DLCs then you did not install the DLC correctly along with its associated RAP files.
@@N68dodgeboy I went to the PSN store and they only had the Very Hard DLC and not the other DLC such as Team Attack Amiggo that was available in EU PSN stores; I assumed finding the PKG files of the DLC would be the recommended option to play it on my US PS3.
@@DamnZtar Well that would be a way that you could do it, but you might also want to load a UK copy of the game (whether that be from the HDD or a disc copy) I'm pretty sure the DLCs are region locked and require the region specific game to work, but the disc itself would not be region locked... So actually... This is a good question to a degree.
@@N68dodgeboy do you have the 06 DLCs as PKGs?
@@DamnZtar Nope.
choked on my water when I heard the us Twisted! was 300 bucks
Yeah, that was a recent complete in box sale. Complete in box will always cost more than loose, especially for GBA games, because most people threw out the cardboard boxes for their GBA games, so they're less common to have the box + all the manuals they come with. Also that's $300 CAD which is about $209 USD.
Just 3 years ago, it was a little over a $100.
thank you Ive know thisngame for years that to magazines but I think ive never searched for gameplay and its so interesting and cool
No doubt! This game is so unique due partly to fact that you have to physically tilt the GBA to play and partly because of how this is accomplished. By plugging this game into the GBA, you're essentially physically adding a gyroscope (the game itself) to the console which is just so cool when you consider that the GBA did not natively have the gyro sensor built in! This game just has that wow factor of the time, because you have this portable tilting game that syncs up with you're doing so smoothly. It's not laggy, it's not unplayable. It's so smooth and so good. This game was and (still is) just one of the coolest GBA games released! The ipod touch didn't release until 2007.
This is a real Mawaru moment.
i was thinking of snatching this game myself since you can't really emulate it on a DS so it's interesting that i got this video recommended, cool vid and also very nice spongebob gba you got there dood
This was my first gbc game as a kid. Hated it at the time 😅
My first GBA game was Spongebob Battle for Bikini bottom + Nicktoons Freeze Frame (it came bundled with the GBA shown in the video. I've had this one for almost 20ish years)
Put it in a gameshark or other cheat device for gbc
Specifically a SpongeBob SquarePants GBA SP
Yeah, I can tell Nintendo did not think this one through when making the GBA SP. lol I feel that probably the only way to play it properly is if you attach it through a passthrough device via the GameShark or something, but other than that, the SP is a no go. Sad because I actually like the SP. :( I'm glad Nintendo is transparent about how NS2 backwards compatibility will work.
My guess is that they figured that no one would ever need to invert the controls on the game itself when using a Game Boy Color and when they made the SP they just didn't account for the one Game Boy Color game that used a gyroscope. They did however account for the other GBA titles that use gyroscopes similarly.
Try it in a Gamecube GBA adapter! lol
lol. It would be unwieldy, but there are definitely people who have done this. :)
Did the DS also support GBC cartridges? Definitely would wanna avoid the DS, and also GameBoy Micro (except that doesn't support anything besides GBA carts).
The DS only supports GBA games in the bottom slot, similar to the Game Boy Micro. (That's kind of why I did not mention the DS or Game Boy Micro, because those don't work for a different reason)
Just makes me wonder how WarioWare: Twisted works with both the regular GBA and the GBA SP?
Believe it or not... That is my next video. :)
@@N68dodgeboySweet! I remember it coming out the same day as the SP. Nintendo did the exact same thing again when they released WarioWare DIY the exact same day as the DSi XL. I wonder why they did that?
Does Yoshis topsy turvy work? Because I was planning on buying that game
@@LimeGreenTeknii Honestly, I do not know their reasoning for that. Perhaps because the Wario Ware micro games are a beloved franchise? I don't know. Have you ever played Game & Wario on Wii U? I really liked what they did to showcase the features of the Wii U gamepad.
@@EternalThrylos-uz5sz A quick reddit search states that it should work and that you just have to calibrate the gyroscope before playing.
This game is definitely one that is much better to emulate since I’m pretty sure mgba can be setup with gyro support with a dual sense controller
You're right! I've actually played this one a little bit on my Wii using an emulator! (You'd tilt the Wii remote)
Something I realized after I finished recording and finished level 1-2 is that if the UFOs are defeated, it will spawn another balloon to keep Kirby afloat for another 15 seconds if you fly Kirby into it.
Short answer no I wonder if it’s the same issue with two DS games in two different languages
It may be or it may not be. It may depend on the game in question.
For DS atleast it does depend on the game, since some games like Pokemon & Mario Kart could connect across languages online or in person, whereas others like MegaMan Starforce could not
So lame
I know right? Imagine how awesome it would've been if you could link between a JP and NA copy. It would honestly be cheaper if you bought 4 JP copies of the game in order to play the 4 player co-op mode, because functionally, it's the same game. I do feel like the text is the reason for region locking the multi cart play though (but that's just a guess).
dang
I know right? Would've been neat if this worked.
This Tool Saved Me from Importing an NTSC Xbox to Ireland
I'm glad this video could be of help to you. :D The reason why I imported a Crystal Xbox in the first place is because they cost twice as much as in the North American region and are significantly cheaper in the PAL region.
Do note, that your Xbox will need to be softmodded at the minimum, in order to run the tool that I have shown in the video.
you will never receive a fake copy Game Boy game when buying directly from japan, they have too much pride & honor pull such a chinese move.
Plus, there is less demand for Japanese GBA games so there is less of a reason to make repros of those, but I figured I just check anyway just to make sure and to show people what original cartridges look like roughly speaking.
Great video man I don't think Japanese GBA games are as counter fitted as the NTSC counterparts
That's a good point actually. There's more demand for the North American variants of Game Boy games and thus those are more likely to have reproductions. (I even think that one of the rules of the proxy I used states that you can't import "pirated" media. Which repros would technically count for since they contain copywritten content)
**Note** that if you run out of optional parts, you currently have to redownload your profile and use the GUI tool again and then re-send your re-patched pilot profile back to your Xbox If a 32 bit tool is ever made, I will link it in the description and remove my previous video.
Man, don't drag that upside down across a hard surface!
Anyone find a solution to the dvd region lock issue, I'm still having the same problems as everyone else.
