Can I Sew The Coziest Christmas PJs In Time?? | Craftmas 2024
Hi friends!
Welcome to the last video of Craftmas! This project was a doozy, but I'm SO happy with the final result. I invite you to put this one on in the background while you do some holiday chores, because it is LONG. This is likely my last video of 2024 - thank you so much to all of you who have joined me on this channel! I'm looking forward to challenging myself to keep learning about sewing and making videos next year. Happy holidays!
Xoxo,
Somer

Hi, I'm Somer! For the past few years I've been collecting hobbies, and I've finally plucked up the courage to start sharing them with the world. I consider myself a so-so sewist, but I also enjoy other fiber arts like embroidery and crochet, and I'm always looking to add to my crafting arsenal.

Hi friends, Welcome to Craftmas project two! The little tree in my office needed some love, and because this make was so simple I got to leave some more chatty (and cat-filled) bits in the video. As always, let me know what you think and what you're working on! Sewing An Inside Out 2 Halloween Costume
So fun!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching 💕
Cute, quick stocking!
Thank you!
Ooh I love the cuff! I made stockings a few years ago using essentially the same process (except creating a tiny "quilt-top" for the front of it first), and it was definitely so magical to turn it all around! My favorite holiday tradition (though established as an adult) is going to see Christmas lights, but because I am NOT a creature of habit, we try to find somewhere new every year
@@eisarie03 Ahh I love that! I grew up near a really good "Christmas lights street" but haven't done that in years - maybe it's time to revisit!
It looks great! Curious to hear what happens with your machine. Mine (of the same machine) fully died spectacularly in the middle of a quilt and I just used that as an excuse to buy a fancier one lol
@@eisarie03 Ahhh no way! It's in the shop now and I'm also curious to hear the prognosis. When I brought it in and told the guy what kind of machine it was he gave me this very knowing look... I feel like the "heavy duty" machines were a bit of false advertising 😂
look at you just French-seaming like a pro!
@@eisarie03 I do love a French seam!
Needs some oil
My (main) tree skirt is pretty but way too big for my skinny tree/space and i have to bunch it up. I've been waffling for years over whether to crochet or quilt a custom-sized one (and so obviously have done neither)
Ooh a crocheted tree skirt would be so nice. Probably more time intensive, but there's something nostalgic or "old-timey Christmas" about that to me!
I support the no-batting decision! Even at that size, I think if you'd added batting I think you would have had to quilt it at least little bit and that would have changed the vibe! Completely agree though that making gives you the opportunity to assess "made" things and over time figure out out how to make exactly what you want!
I agree! I feel like I was worried that it would come out too simple... which it kind of did, but I like it. I'm glad that I didn't end up over-engineering it or adding too many components just for the sake of it. Thanks for watching 😊
I cohabitate with someone who restricts Christmas to after Thanksgiving and it is such a bummer! I have several friends who unabashedly transition straight from Halloween to Christmas and I am here for it.
@@eisarie03 Haha I'm in the same boat! Never enough Christmas 😂
I have been riding pretty high on the Christmas quilt and matching stockings I made like 5 years ago, but this year I do have a mini project to make a Santa hat for my new nephew. I made one for his sister for her first Christmas but tragically his head is dramatically larger than hers was at the same age, so sharing is not an option.
for the big long stitches you can make a French seam. Or if you use a zigzag stitch, use an overlock foot (that is a presser foot with a raised edge in the middle where you can only do a zigzag stitch. You place that center exactly along the raw edge of your fabric, so that the foot folds the fabric over a very small part. This gives you very nice straight edges) . Because the Singer Heavy Duty does not have a fake overlock stitch, it is useful to first do your straight stitches and then your zigzag stitch while, for example, letting the edge of your sewing machine foot run on the sewn line so that you have the same distance everywhere. This way you get the fake overlock stitch and if you use such a foot you don't get an ugly edge finish. You place that center exactly along the raw edge of your fabric, so that the foot folds the fabric over a very small part. This gives you very nice straight edges)
this is such a good tip - thank you!!
Thank you for sharing your cat with us. 😊❤ My cats were highly trained pattern weights for many years! 😁😺
Ahh love that!
Yes, sewist and crafter too. I have a dress in a similar pattern that I may revisit now after watching your inspiring video. I like it but the pattern needs tweaks! Yours looks lovely on you. 😊 Current project - making a version of the Lengburg bra dress as a supportive winter under layer. I’m one of those full-figured, modern-bra-hating women! 😂 Thank you for sharing your lovely cat with us too. 😊❤😼
Thanks for your kind comment! Love that I may have inspired you to revisit an old pattern 💕. I would probably make tweaks to this pattern as well, if I were to make it again - it's always a learning process. I'm also SO intrigued by the Lengburg bra dress! I hadn't heard of it before, but I love the concept. Good luck with it ☺
@@somdrum Thank you! 😊💝
The dress turned out really well!😃 we are heading into Summer here in Australia so I’m currently sewing some linen tops 🌼
@@StellaCroker-y6w Thank you! Summer in Australia definitely calls for linen - I hope you're loving what you're making 💕
Nice dress, elle vous va bien 👍🏻
Thank you so much! Merci 💕
I love it so much. I’m so happy I can be the first one to like and the first one to comment I love It’s so much you are so beautiful and keep living like how you do and keep making dresses. Those are so cute. You’re good at that!
@@HenleyMagee Thank you! You are so kind!
That dress is so cute! You did an amazing job❤
You are so inspiring! I think I might have to give making my own clothes a try! Sometimes I am way too picky to buy clothes in stores😂 Your help companion is so cute🥰
@@loububbas Thank you! Learning to sew is so fun because you can be so specific with how things look, unlike buying them in stores. Give it a go!
