Porcupine Gorge Camping and Dinosaur Track - (Outback Detours - May - June 2023 - Part 6)
Переглядів 4554 місяці тому
This part of the trip takes us to Richmond, Hughenden and Muttaburra. Millions of years ago the area was covered by an inland sea which dried up because of climate and continental changes and left sediment in which much of the ancient sea creatures and dinosaurus fossils were found. We visit some of the display centres in these towns. The beautiful Porcupine Gorge can be found north of Hughenden.
Dinosaur Tracks and Opals - (Outback Detours - May - June 2023 - Part 5)

Willow Springs and Skytrek 4x4 - (The Road to Flinders Ranges - Part 9)
Переглядів 358Рік тому
We booked a secluded bush camp at Willow Springs and felt like we were the only ones there. The on-site toilet was a welcome bonus. Skytrek is a 4wd track which includes various degrees of difficulty. It is 80 km long and will take 7 hours or more to complete. The last 20 km or so is the most challenging but also very beautiful and fun.
The Cazneaux Tree - (The Road to Flinders Ranges - Part 8)
Переглядів 342Рік тому
Camping and sitting out wet weather days and closed roads for 5 nights at Wilpena Pound. Great hiking and climbing oppurtunies with spectacular views. The Cazneaux tree is located close by. It was famously photographed in 1937 by the great Australian photographer Harold Cazneaux. The tree still poses for dramatic photographs.
Stormy Weather in Parachilina - (The Road to Flinders Ranges - Part 7)
Переглядів 941Рік тому
Because of inclement weather and road closures we decided to sit it out for 3 nights in the Angorichina Tourist Park village which is located between Blinman and the Parachilna Gorge. It is a short drive to the Parachilna station and Prairy Hotel located on the old Ghan railway line. Access to the Nucaleena mine ruins branches off the Glass Gorge scenic drive loop.
Feral Goats on Top of Mt Chambers - (The Road to Flinders Ranges - Part 6)

In this video we do what we love which is camping, hiking and climbing to the top of Mount Chambers. We had to explore and find our own way. There are no made paths to follow, the terrain is rugged, steep and challenging. The rewards include stunning close up views of the work of nature and the mountain. From the top there are 360 degree views of the beautiful, rugged surrounding country not se...

(Corrugated) Roads to Flinders Ranges - Bush Repairs on a Broken Radio Antenna - Oct 2022
Переглядів 596Рік тому
During October 2022 we travelled a total of 5000 km on a round trip from Brisbane to visit the Flinders Ranges. Corrugated dirt roads took its toll breaking off the UHF radio antenna which is fitted on the bull bar. This happened before in the Kimberleys in 2021 when we caught the event on camera.

Great to see you guy's back on the road again. Thanks for sharing your trips. Cheers from NZ
Love hearing from you guys. Thank you!
Thanks for this video. Been humming and arring for weeks trying to decide if it would be a good idea. Seen a few horror shows done with rollers but yours looks great. I think the mixing ratio is key if you don’t want a heavy texture like me. I do think I will go for good quality foam rollers though on my moho. Thanks again.👍
Glad you found it useful. Have fun with your project.
I noticed you changed from the “coarse” finish roller to the smooth foam one. Any reason for that?
I have spent around 2 months over 30 years or so in or around Arkaroola and we went back 4 years ago and going again in July. Last time we went from the Gold Coast Via Adelaide and followed almost your exact route, leaving Balcanoona and going to the strez track, Inamincka and back via the venture way. I saw you actually camped in my exact same camp site I use each time in the creek in Arkaroola...lol. The last time I did echo camp was on motorbikes before you had to pay for it and I see it hasnt changed. Watching your videos was both reminiscing and also makes me look forward even more to going back in a few months. cheers. Fun Fact I have only ever got two punctures ever from 4wding and both were almost in the exact same spot about 3 kms from Arkaroola village on the main road from a pointy rock. You definitely want to go there with good tyres and at least one spare as those rocks are sharp!
Enjoyed reading your interesting comments, thank you! Arkaroola is a great spot, would love to go back sometime soon.
Very good camera work. A little commentary would be good. We’re heading out there 6/24 so was helpful. What month were you there?
Thank you for your comments. We were there in October. Was a wet month so the temperatures were generally comfortable.
Its such a beautiful place. Reminds me of Central Australia somewhat. Your video's have definitely inspired me to undertake this journey 😊😊😊
We have some good memories of that trip. Glad you enjoyed.
Thanks for that. I had considered similar and had written it off as being too hard and time consuming. I note that your protector doesn't cover the white centre section and hinge points which cop a bit of hammering for sustained off-road. Any thoughts? Chris
Hi Chris, it was a time consuming job but worth it. After thousands of kilometres on dirt tracks the front of my camper trailer is still well protected. You can just as easily make a cover for the centre white section that could also protect the hinges. My observation was that stone damage on that part is limited to some shallow scratches that can be polished/buffed out if necessary. I decided it was not worth the effort for another "skin" on my trailer. To protect the fronts of the raised hinge points, I stuck on strips of self adhesive closed cell foam. Since then I have'nt noticed any damage to the hinges. One last thing, small stones collect in the cavity between the doors and the body which rubs and cause damage. To prevent this I stuck on self adhesive weatherstrips to fill the cavity. An added bonus is that it keeps out mud.
I like your simple hinge suggestion. My raised hinge areas have deep chips. Your step by step and the products used have answered all my uncertainties about dealing with the cosmetics of fibreglass repairs. Thank you. Now just have to find the time. Here's one more for you to ponder: Light gravel can collect in the 10mm wide gap between the rear of the nose cone and the closed lid - maybe it needs a rubber weather strip? Cheers@@Dustydetours
You are absolutely right!. The gap between the lid and the body needs weather strips as well to keep out the gravel. I've had to replace the seals in this location (stuck on the lid) a couple of times because the bungy tie downs for the canvas cause it to come loose, but this is a minor issue. Next time I might have a look at some of the thin, self adhesive rubber seals from Clark Rubber.
Found your video re adding fibreglass skins. Again, great show.
Cool, thanks!
Truly excellent step by step. I have Ulti 763 - so we're almost cousins!! I noticed in your later video that you had some sort of yellow cover/stone protection for nose cone?? Can you tell me what it is and how you went about it? Chris
Hahaha, you're right, we're almost cousins. Glad you found the video on making the fibreglass skins.
Wow Listen to the serenity
👍👍❤❤💯💯😄👍
That track is a sick joke. It's the sort of nightmarish track that gets even worst as wet weather further deteriorates it. They could at least do something with it that'd make it a little more practical to use. And how would they recover a vehicle which had mechanical problems and got stuck on certain parts of that 'goat track' ?
The Echo Camp Back Track self-guided documentation (as well as the verbal advice we received) very clearly warn that this track requires "advanced 4WD experience". It also states that sections of the track are classified as "extreme 4WD". It requires a heavier type of 4WD vehicle with high and low range lock up and good ground clearance. It is not intended to be easy. We thoroughly enjoyed the natural environment and the driving challenge.
Hi nice video..thanks for the opportunity to suss out the road before going on it myself. 👌 How did you find the Strezlecki track? Was there much in the way of soft boggy sand or mainly hard pack dirt and corrugations? Thanks again and safe travels
Glad you enjoyed it. Long stretches of the Strezlecki track has been sealed. The remainder is good quality dirt roads with some corrugations. No soft boggy sand.
@@Dustydetours thank you🙏
What a great video and a sensational camping spot, we're going in October, wondering if the spots close to the ameneties are noisier, whereabouts was your camp? Cheers
Thank you for watching. We had a secluded campsite a few kilometers from the homestead. Expect more campers located close to the amenities.
That was fantastic, thanks for uploading
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks guys, good to see you again.
Yey. Morning coffee and a relaxing new episode from Dustydetours ❤ Life doesn’t get much better 🙏
We're heading down that way next week from Brissy because of your videos. Really enjoying following your adventures.
Thank you for watching. Have a great trip!
Did you achieve a unique surface? Or do you have "shades"? Hard to tell from pictures only. Thank you!
The surface is quite even and without shades.
@@Dustydetours Thanks for your reply! :)
Great piece, thanks.
Glad you like it!
thanks for posting. is the inner adjustable square section, on the rear legs, made from aluminium? or steel. as I think only aluminium is available in that size?
The square tubing is made of steel. I got it from Bunnings hardware store.
@@Dustydetours just to confirm, to fit inside the adjustable part of an alko unit, the square tubing would need to be approx 32-34mm.
@@placestosea I used 40 mm x 40 mm square tubing. Dimensions are displayed at minute 1:15 in the video.
Another great video guys 👍 perfectly timed as I’ve just finished your Flinders Ranges set, so I was really looking forward to this one and you didn’t disappoint 😀 We’re heading out there in May, so hoping to visit all the spectacular sights you have shown in your clips. Thanks 🙏
Great to hear! Look out for another video in about two week's time.
Enjoyed the video. Really like the way you have photographed the plants. I'm a South African, some of the plants there, we find in South Africa. I believe they were brought over here during the Boer war. Over two million horses served in the war. Fodder for the horses was imported from Australia and South America and that's where the plants come from.
Glad you liked the video and thank you for the interesting feedback.
So glad to have found your channel guys 👍 Love how relaxing your content is. I’m slowly working my way through all your videos and I haven’t been disappointed yet 😀 Hope you have more travels to share with us?
It is very rewarding receiving feedback such as yours. Thank you very much. We aim to complete two more videos from our Flinders trip in the next few weeks. If you subscribe to the channel you will receive a notification when we upload a new video.

That's great feedback. Thank you.
Thanks again. Stu
Thank you for watching.
Nice, thanks.
Glad you liked it, thanks.
just beautiful..well done!
Thank you so much 😀
Guess what you're replacing as soon as you get back to Brisbane. I can see you're very neat and tidy person the way you pack you're tool box.
Thank you for watching and the nice comment!
What ever it takes! I've had 2 Prado 150's, both with bullbars, both had antennas for phones and UHF mounted to them. Probably gone through every make and model of antenna, all destroyed by either spring failing, mount snapping, assembly falling apart or internal antenna failing (well over 20 since 2012 including all the fancy GME and Uniden hollow types) The best solution was to use a non-spring type, this lasted the longest before the cable failed at the mount. Now the best solution is to get a bonnet mount, sits just near the windscreen, mounted on the bonnet hinge and use a non-spring type, no issues now. Enjoying your travel videos, wanting to get out there again.
Good idea to go for a bonnet mount. Thank you for the comment.
Have you dropped tyre pressure yet, you’ll get a smoother ride
Yes, tyre pressures were dropped to around 25 - 28 psi (1.7 - 1.9 bar).
Enjoying your videos, many thanks
Glad you like them and thanks for watching!
Recently saw your video and you have nice content as am someone who loves to watch Australia through travel vlog videos in youtube..Subbed and bring them more..😀Cheers and God bless!! Love from India!!☺️👍
Welcome aboard!
We really enjoyed your travels.Great use of mapping and stills, Thank you for putting in the work 👌
That is great to hear. Thank you!
I took that track back in early 22. It was great, and great to watch your video. That drop down to the gorge… I also decided not to take it, worried I would not be able to get back out. Speaking with the French driver (Ridge Top Tour)… he said ‘yeah, don’t go down there, it’s not advised’.
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the best travelling series ever! The format really works!
That is great feedback! Thank you.
Great video thank you
Thanks for watching!
What a spectacular, pictures sights
Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice video, thanks for sharing your journey. I really like Arkaroola . Doug Sprig does an amazing astronomy show when the weather suitable. Looking forward to getting back out there later this year.
Thanks for watching. We will put the astronomy show on the list for the next visit.
Probably should get out to show the viewers the water crossing a bit of a safety issue there not everybody has the same vehicle as you
Insane fuel prices in regional SA, I've driven through that part of Australia and the price of petrol can vary by 60 cents a litre depending on your proximity to Port Augusta or Port Pirie, but it's the same distribution network Perry's
Very expensive. I suppose remoteness add to the cost of delivery and on site operations. But still glad to get fuel when you need it.
When the NSW government barred Victorians from entering NSW , those wanting to return to Victoria from Queensland had to use outback roads in Western Queensland and far north SA in order to get back to Victoria, there's only 2 viable roads through Birdsville track or Strzelecki track via Innamincka, there was actually one guy travelling down to Adelaide from Cairns who nearly perished , after his 2WD broke down on a oil and gas pipeline near Moomba , he was discovered wandering around in 45C heat disoriented and dehydrated by a Santos maintenance crew, fortunate for him or he would have certainly died.
Very interesting story. Thank you for sharing. I guess the takeaway is that travellers should be well prepared, carry a good supply of water and stay with the car in case of a breakdown.
Get the dingos at night
We didn't notice any this time round.
Love your video.
Thank you!
Seeing that footage, I would have turned back quicksmart.
