    Bro - just a few years ago I built the Möbius Models version of the original Cylon Raider. That thing is HUGE. It was gorgeous, and definitely not underwhelming! I think that Cylon raider is probably my absolute favorite space fighter of all time. It is truly unique. A spaceship cannot have any design, the design must also be practical (like how much time will I waste to get from one section to another one) and it must also provide enough structural integrity. And from those two points of perspective, ships in Star Trek have always been impractical (too many bottlenecks) and would have structural issues in real life (well, in real life inertia is a thing, I know, in Star Trek it magically disappeared).

    I share a hot water heater with the apartment next door. It's a weird set-up but it's never been a problem, plus it's included in the rent (water & heat.) I think the music from The Orville goes something like this "Da da, da da da da -- da da da, da da da, da da da!

      The days of expecting 25 years from a water heater seem to be at an end. I'm happy with my tank-less combo unit that also doubles as a boiler for hot water heat. Tomy Refit a bit too expensive but I have the Corgi TOS model that I may do a few minutes on.

    • @loganq
      @loganq 2 місяці тому

      @@davesgeektrek I don't even have that much of a problem with all of our appliances being crap now. But why do water heaters always need to end in a catastrophe? That CORGI looks good, but my first thought, given the (modest) price point, is that they could have spent less on the fancy box and a little more on the model! I was looking at tankless, but the cost to plumb it would be enormous, given where I would have to put it. And I need money for the Tomy Refit.

    You can’t have the launch bays retract before spinning up the FTL drive. That’d make it impossible for Starbuck to have an edge-of-your-seat crash landing in the bay, finally allowing Galactica to jump just in the nick of time, leaving cylon missiles to whiz through the space where the ship was. 😉 Edit: looked it up, apparently the scene I was thinking of was in the miniseries and DID involve flying into the bay as it was closing! 😂

As for the ship "inside V'ger" in the newer versions, I never thought a physical ship was needed, but I guess they added it because it was planned back in 1979 but didn't have the time or money? On the list of things that don't make sense - 1) Why did it call itself VGER? Did it forget it's Voyger name after the merger? How could it read it's own name plate? 2) Voyager is a sublight "deep space" probe. How did it get so far from the Solar System to meet with another probe without Starfleet in the 100 plus years of warp speed and long range sensors had not detected/found Voyager? Though I did enjoy seeing ST:TMP after a very long wait since the end of ST: TOS, I thought the movie was very slow paced and didn't take enough advantage of it's original music scores. Lastly, your tie...that tie pattern...The Shining called and wants its carpet swatch back. :D
