i wonder whats the contol scheme on a controller? i play on gzdoom with triggers acting as strafe buttons, and X as fire button, ever since i swapped to these controls the gameplay even on harder maps is reaaly smooth

For anyone wondering about the slight changes rollowing from the cut around 17:30 the game crashed and i had to change emulators so the Chao's i got changed and some gameplay parts slightly changed. I will be continuing to use this emulator going forward but unfortunately there will be no commentary.

You'll get him next time. Buy some analeptics too (they're full party revival items). I'm still immpressed that this is a no item creation run and you seem like you're actually going to finish like that. If you go for the higher difficulty modes (which I hope you do), you'll definitely need to practice cancel combos early on and invent yourself some super powerful weapons before the end of disk one.

Hey! I've only skimmed through this let's play, but I've gotta say, watching you struggle with these bosses has been a lot of fun. I hope you'll take this as a complement: you did a challenge run here by accident. You see, the mmost important mechanics in this game are battle skills, cancel combos by extension, and item creation. You seem to have overlooked all of these but still managed to power through. You talk a lot about setups, and while that's part of it, the real reason the difficulty was so extreme for you is because you overlooked the most important aspects of the battle system. I remember you saying at some point that you didn't want to use battle skills because they cost HP. But the battle system is largely built around this mechanic. You set major and minor skills, and then you can chain them together (by starting one before the previous one finisshes) which earns you a percentage based powwer bonus every time you do it. The bonuses stack, so you can do absolutely massive damage to anything in a matter of seconds if you can pull off a chain of five or six in a row. If your allies are set up too, they'll do combos as well, and I promise you that any boss you can think of will go down in seconds. Remember Crocell (AKA the marquis dragon?) a chain of aiming devices from Maria puts him in his place in a few seconds. Some bosses (Robin Wind is one) are meant to be MP killed. Others (like the giant crab at the beginning) have elemental weaknesses (don't ask me why a crab is weak to fire, but three hits from Fayt's blaising sword kills it). The other piece of the puzzle is item creation. I may have missed this as I have admittedly only skimmed through this so far, but item creation is not meant to be optional in this game. It very much expects you to invent stronger weapons during the second half. I'm glad you played like this though, because there aren't many challenge runs (even intentional ones) of this game on UA-cam. If you ever play through this again, I promise you it won't be nearly this frustrating if you embrace the mechanics you overlooked here.
