Was shown on on my eighth birthday the T-Rex looked freaky and the stegosaurus caught me by surprise hiding in the mountain which in reality it would never do 😊
The thing is, viewers did not demand great special effects back then. It's not that people thought this looked real, it's just that back then they were willing to suspend disbelief and use imagination to fill in the gaps and engage with the story on some level. This psychology allowed us to enjoy some works that kids today cannot because the bar for special effects has been raised, and now anything less than CGI is intolerable.
Yeah...I definitely loved this movie when it premiered on ABC in 1977. I was seven, going on eight, and so happy to see a T Rex kicking all kinds of ass and, as near as we can tell, surviving the movie! But three months later, this movie, and my fascination with dinosaurs, would completely evaporate when a quaint little George Lucas film premiered, completely changing the world of entertainment.
@@grosskopf2779 I'd say mostly the writing and dialogue. It was almost as if it was written by a Japanese person who lacked the nuances of western culture.
That song though. I will always remember it. This movie, the original Snowbeast, Grizzly, plus a couple I remember the content but not the movie title. It was a dual feature on TV, and only saw them once. There was one about some people visiting an island only to discover a mud golem that could only be destroyed by salt. The other move after that was about a giant turtle and also a woman who begged for help while drowning, and the Devil turned into her into a horrible sea monster. The good ol' days.
I'm showing my age with what I am about to say but anyone who grew up in the 80s with an interest in monsters both real and fictional will know exactly what I am talking about... I remember watching Grandpa from the Munsters as the host every saturday morning of a program called Super Scary Saturday on TBS (Turner Broadcasting Station) where they would play monster movies that only die hards could really appreciate... Cheesy B monster movies with ridiculous special effects and even worse acting but man those were the good old days... In 1989 I was in 2nd grade I want to say but one day whenever I got home from school my mom told me that she had a surprise for me and that she had taped me a dinosaur movie while I was at school. That is when I first saw this vintage gem and I can assure you that I wore that tape out to the point where it wouldn't even play anymore.. I would guess that I have seen this movie more than 75x easily as a child and for some reason it has been on my mind alot lately and I found a website that had it for free and I just watched the whole movie for the first time in 25 years give or take.. It is a great movie and even after all these years I still have questions that will probably never be answered... Questions like : -How did the T Rex know that the Triceratops was in that graveyard encased inside the side of the mountain it looked like... how did he know he was there? - If he is the last dinosaur, then what about the pterodactyls and the cerotopsian that almost ran over Frankie and Maston at the beginning? - If Maston were able to finally kill the T Rex, how was planning to get the head home to his taxidermist? - How did "Hazel" keep her legs clean shaven? - With the pickings being slim in terms of the dating scene with very few prospects if any really lets be honest, why in the hell did Maston keep running "Hazel" away like she was some pest or vermin instead of trying to knock it down? She seemed to be game and lets keep it real here, he is NOT a peach I think you all know that already. So why the hostility toward her? Wasn't he supposed to be some big shot playboy back in the civilized world? Sure he was the richest man in the world so that had to sway the ladies in some way to help balance out the fact that while he may be the richest man in the world but at the same time he is an asshole to women, an asshole to everyone really, he is not even close to being what one would consider a handsome or even remotely attractive man on any level... so one would think that a man who wants to sleep with women his grand daughter's age would be more appreciative of any attention any female is prepared to give him.... but it is just a movie I suppose ..... Shit like that couldn't possibly happen in real life!!!
Loved this as a kid, still remember it. Recognized Richard Boone in everything after. I was 5 years old and Mr. Boone was the guy from The Last Dinosaur for many years after.
@@nassauguy48 - I see him in old John Wayne movies, and recognize him from The Last Dinosaur. Later, I discovered Have Gun Will Travel. One of the all time greats, he played the hero and villain equally well.
That song has lived rent free in my head for 30 years.
For it's time this was an awesome movie. Great entertainment
who's the actor at 1:00 min?
I remember reading that the actor playing Chuck killed himself yrs ago
You DING DONG!! XD 0:31
Definitely brings back memories as a kid watching over an over im 34 an no one my age has never even heard of this movie it seams lol.
It's a classic, and most people for some reason never experienced the fun of this movie as a kid!

I see this in too my life hehe
Rankin and Bass did this??!!
This was a super T-Rex, bulletproof, Fallproof , stab-proof, bashed to the head proof. I'm surprised it doesn't fly
He told him to stand still as big as he is 😊
A black dude named Bunta who carries a spear. That’s some old school racism. Oof.
😂 LOL.
@00:31 “You ding-dong!!!”
Bolt action rifle that you wouldn't use against an elephant or even a bear?
On German Blu-Ray tomorrow...or on March1. Remastered, full version (full Japanese cut, 106 minutes, in English or German).
"You Ding Dong!"... kinda' says it all.
The idea for the Predator...
2:29 T-Rex Suit so funny 😂

A remake of this would really be great!

Its sad how younger people rip on this movie and its affects...it was perfect for the time and for kids who watched it way back when. Still love it.
Well it was all right. I remember seeing it on ABC. But really it wasn't the effects it was the acting and possibly some writing

Still, it worked wonders on the kids who saw it late night
@@Clock_70 Yeah, 'cuz, at the end of the day, who cares about that other crap when you got a T-Rex running amuck in a lost world??
Reading all these comments in the future from you guys in the past is amazing.
Can't image Richard Boone being in such a low caliber movie. It's a sham.
ไม่ได้กลัวกูเปลี่ยนใจแล้วกูไม่ให้มึงดีกว่าเหมือนที่เวลามึงไม่ให้กู
Great movie , I love the story
I was 8 the first time I watched this. I thought this was amazing back then!
Dude looks like Waylon Jennings.
🤮🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕 This movie is an INSULT to anyone's intelligence!
THIS Movie needs a Remake! i mean it cant get any worse ;D
"If times get really tough you can bite on it" goddamn he just basically told her to kill herself, Masten is ruthless

this was the first film I reviewed on Streed Reviews
theme song sound like Adele?
Must have paid Joan a bundle for this one.
That t rex was about nearly the same height as Kong 1976, would definitely have a fight between these two
This is classic! Long live "Mares leg"
Paladin would have used his six-gun.
i always pull for the triceratops, but he rarely wins in dinosaur movies.
When a movie is so laughably bad it’s actual good.
I think I just found a gem
Why on Earth did Rankin-Bass get involved in this?!?
For us, who were kids at the time,...they just didn't know it yet back then!🤓
@@Clock_70 I was literally a kid back then in those days.
@@Khultan I just enjoyed it as a kid.

Can't use the word "great" for this film, in any way. Memorable, yes. Not great. In any way. At all.
Oh, it's a GREAT movie! What wonderful dialogue! Richard Boone deserved the Oscar. :)
Talk about devaluing the Oscar...@@BizarroNo.1
Omg finally found this childhood first. Brings back the memories.
I loved the bowl of cheese when I was a kid.
