Bear getting Into Our Bee Hives 8-28-24
Bear got to our bee hives. Our electric fence parts were delivered just a day too late for the hive he did manage to get into. Unfortunately the camera did not catch the actually moment he broke into that hive. You can tell he's being stung, but that does not deter him form his quest.

Adirondack Maple Syrup, Our First Attempt
Переглядів 453 роки тому
Our first try at tapping maples and making maple syrup. We tapped 3 Sugar Maples at our home in the Adirondacks. The run was long enough that we were able to repeat the process three times this season. Around 15 to 20 gallons worth of sap each time. Ultimately 20 gallons of sap gave us about 3 quarts of delicious syrup. Music created by Nick Doumanoff at Scenick46 Studios

Building our own home in the Adirondacks. Not for the faint of heart, but worth it in the end. Snow rain, camping. I was all worth it.

As shown in the video we test that all the honey we extract is below the 18.6 moisture content, checked with the refractometer. If it's above that we give it back to the bees. The spring nectar flow had finished a couple of weeks prior to the extraction and we like to have a clear distinction between our Spring and Fall honey.

On this trip we stopped at the Gift Shop. Although we planned on switching to the trail at the Wilmington Turn, due to the wind and visibility we opted to head past the Elevator tunnel and stop at the Gift Shop. On other trips it took approximately 3 1/2 hours to summit. On the last 1/4 of the video called Whiteface 2010 is a section showing my son and I summiting from the road.

@davidskaar LMFAO. He didn't. A larva dug it's way into his head and decided it liked it there so chilled out for a bit thinking he would grow into an adult bot fly. Thankfully his life was short lived.

Ouch!!! Does that become instantaneously uncomfortable or does the grub have to enlarge a bit before symptoms arrive?
