As a young man growing up in the 1960's most things at the time seemed so modern and admired even the new build architecture which is disliked nowadays by many including myself. The last steam engine made for British Rail was Evening Star a 9F loco as the black one shown. You couldn't choose a more iconic British locomotive if you tried, its a bit like dressing up a Morris Minor to pretend to be a Volkswagen Beetle!
