its funny, we have "punks" nowadays but they're known as woke, people who think they're unique, going again "Society" but all they are is lonely little losers who think they're going against the grain and being special unique people by worshipping the brands that spout their message, and it made me realize, thats what Punks were back in the 80's and 90's, people desperate for validation who thought they were special and something different, when all they were was the same thing the hippies were in the 60's, I know its probably already a well known thing but its odd when suddenly its put into perspective, every generation has its group of "Individuals" but its just odd being apart of the time when you can look back and compare todays with yesterdays.
The thing I really like about this movie is how Stevo ultimately realizes at the end that his ideology is not sustainable and this worldview ultimately folds in on itself. In every monologue he gives there exists some sort of contradiction that he doesn't see (perhaps because he doesn't want to see it) and I wonder if this was intentionally done by the director/screenwriters. That is what I find interesting about this movie. When I was younger I thought he made valid points, but his arguments tend to be weak - he is a sophist. In this monologue he gives at the mall, the thing that stands out to me is that when talking about posers and music he ends up describing some sort of nationalistic pride he has in American punk rock vs British punk rock using words like “we” and “us”… “we did it harder”, “we did it with more love”, "us Americans", therefore speaking from a collective and nationalist point of view. But this is a contradiction to anarchism.
Who cares post punk is just a place and time in the broader punk phenomenon. They just happened to develop concurrently kinda like deathrock and hardcore in cali. It turned the punk ethos of aggression and pissed off attitudes and gave it an introspective and moody veneer. While punks were pissed at the stablishment, postpunks were acutely aware of the state of the world in the context of prospective nuclear annihilation and the alienation in a country still feeling the effects of world war 2.
Funny how he expressed that they did it with more"love" even tho later on we find out that he earlier expressed to his mother (who told him to do all things with love) that love failed.
The greatest thing about this scene is that the scriptwriter BRILLIANTLY took the audience through the cycle of Poserdom that Steve-O and H-Bob went through, and most of us (who saw this very young) went through it with them. A lot of us at that time were aware of punk, and probably knew some punk kids. And if the kid was already punk when we met them, they were "hardcore", "bad ass" or just plain scary and you were afraid of them in the same way you were afraid of walking by the house with the big scary pit bull who would rattle the fence trying to get to you. But if you knew them BEFORE they became punks, you knew they were trendy ass posers. The audience meets these guys in their "Scary" phase. We hear this rant and think he's a total hardcore bad ass and hate the posers around him. And at no time do we even consider that he could just be another trendy fuck until the end when he tells us. And most of us looked at each other like "Whooooaa!!". The main players in this cast are all just more trendy fucks who go on to become the parents. This is why nobody knows a 60 year old Punk. Great scene, great film.
A TRUE punk is comfortable dressing how they want whether it looks punk or not, ive seen dudes at hardcore shows with fucking sweaters on and blue jeans, and i love that this movie touches on that a little bit, any fuck head with a leather jacket and mohawk can claim to be punk but are they really living like a lunk prolly not, and tbh who would want to its a rough lifestyle unless youre truly dedicated to that kind of thing which more power to you if you are, i respect it if anything
It’s funny bc I love hardcore but most of the community has some sort of allegiance to the idea of being hardcore. Just go out there and be true to yourself, appreciate the scene but be more than just a trend.
"england" is NOT British! ..."england" is "england" a little shithole south of SCOTLAND. Neither is WALES "england" nor IRELAND... You mean: The British Isles - or - The United Kingdom - or The UK. You "american canadians" never get it do you?! You Retard.

My true love. I love this actor with all my heart
honestly one of the best things ever, i don't think there's ever been a more relatable thing that matthew has ever done
That background music reminds me the warriors game

First heard the song in the warriors game 👏🏻👏🏻

Matthew Lillard is the best
It’s a movie about an unlikeable adolescent hang on man yelling too much and spitting everywhere. And yet I’ve seen it at least 3 times. Odd
Clips for a hazie day
Mike is the purest punk
Coming back here after finding out that MGK is in SLC Punk 2 [he's the biggest poser in all of metal]

“Exhibit A! Well it’s my only exhibit but you know what? I think it’s pretty fucking good” I love that line so much
Best role since 13 ghosts. But it was sure nice to see some of that raw emotion on the fnaf silver screen
one of my favorite monologues ever
Okay but what shirt is he wearing in this scene cause I need it
Dude you need to cover Metal Lords !!!!!!!!!!!!
Stevo is why I am the way I am today
Posers were the ones who tried to make out like a music and fashion (Punk) was some massive Anarchist ideology. It's just music and fashion
The line “Anarchy in the UK” is voiced by the director. He felt the actor on the escalator didn’t say it correctly.
Bonne chance
Je te compard
Bonne chanc
Moi jai adoree
de las mejores actuaciones de Matthew Lillard, sinceramente uwu
this scene was actually pretty patriotic 🇺🇸
Stevo my fav punk❤️❤️❤️
I’ve seen this clip so many times and it’s only just now dawned on me that he listed Canada as an American state 💀
Me talking to my wall of posters at 2am:
Best fucking movie ever
