I would like to share my thoughts with regard to spandrel glass, basically, what Kayle is asking, spandrel has to be ceramic or have a shadow box, because this will serve to cover the elements, like slab and brackets, which is potentially visible from the outside. That is the reason, not because of the distinction between vision and spandrel.

Very valuable insights and actionable tips to be more efficient at anchoring, especially for me as a new member in the team.

You show a calculated movement of live load and thermal to be 1.45". It looks like you are saying that is the required joint size but the joint needs to be double the movement so it would actually be about a 3" head joint. Correct?

This is a great topic. A few comments. Frit is usually made of small glass particles with a die/ink/colorant that is applied to the glass and baked into the glass through the tempering process. Etched glass, also mentioned here briefly is the process of disturbing the smooth finish of the glass either chemically or by other means like sandblasting thus removing glass thickness leaving a rough finish. Etching is not used for spandrel. Spandrel glass can be done in many ways, but the more common way is to either use a solid (full flood) ceramic frit covering by either being printed (screen printing or digital) on the glass, or a pre-made product like Guardians Spandrel HT line. Another process is ICD's surface sprayed water silicone that merely stays on the surface and does not chemically alter the properties of the glass by fusing into it. The interesting part of the study is that under a microscope they discovered that some of these particles would penetrate into the glass considerably and affect the glass much like a seed or inclusion could. ICD's website has several free classes and one of them talks about this showing the studies in detail with photos. The most surprising part of it, is that despite the amount or pattern of coverage, the failure of fritted glass seems to always origin from a part of the glass with the frit coating, not the areas of the glass that stayed clear/untreated.

Nice job Stewart. Your video has good information. In addition, there can be a benefit to collaborating with the EOR regarding building movement anticipated "after" a framing system is installed. In some cases, this results in lesser movement than the amount shown in a project's contract documents.

I am a structural engineer in CW & these videos looks quite interesting.. however, using FPS system is quite annoying...FPS system is stupid.. except america the whole world use metric system..AAMA has the limit for handrails ..i think it is H/36 which seems too high..it should be more stringent..australian standard AS-1288 is much better for glass. It is limit state design & the guidelines are given in much detail like buckling check for fins etc.. anyway thumbs down for inches & pounds... otherwise nice videos
