How to paint a Stormtrooper - For Star Wars Legion
Very yes
sweet I didnt know you had another chanel! Looking forward to see Luke, I'm about to start the rebel half of the starter box on a Hoth color scheme
Thanks for the great video! Definitely going to try this method out. I hope to see more Speed Paint Plus content 😊
Love to know how you do the basing
looking forward for Luke.... you did a really great Job on Vader here, really like how he came out!!!
QUESTION OF THE DAY: What paints are YOU USING for your hobby?
Ive got a smattering of lots of brands - havent really found one that ticks every box. Would like to delve into AK next!
I am fairly new in the hobby, so I mainly use speedpaints and fanatic paint 👍
ah cool! Well there is a lot of variety out there to chose from. Let us know how you find the AK paints after you have used them for a bit :)
A good way to start, and i hope that you enjoy the process! If there is anything you would like to know then just ask - hopefully i can help where possible :):)
Uh did I just stumble onto a certain Vampires old channel?
I don't think im a vampire - but iv'e never checked...
@@Bolters_and_Brushes you sound a lot like @ChristianVonCarmian40kVtuber
Be cool to see some no airbrush needed paint tutorials. 👍🏽
Noted and i'd be happy to :) :)
Great video. I really enjoy the speed paint then a bit extra approach, it's similar to my own. I would vote for no airbrush though. Or show the way to achieve a similar finish without the airbrush. Either in the vid or in a follow up? Also, Khorne Berzerkers or a Daemon Prince would be cool. Great vid, take a subscribble. 👍
Thank you kindly, yeh i'm really liking the Speed Paints and i think it's a super useful set (and contrast of course) for hobbyists out there. Yes i'd be more than happy to introduce a variety of methods and not just airbrush - make up brushes are a real favourite of mine as well to achieve a quicker paint job :)
Looks cool. 👍
Knocked it out of the park here, its great to see alternative paint lines in use compared to citadel
Thank you kindly! Well there are quite a few brands out there so it's a nice choice for hobbyists :) I used to use them a while back but now i've settled on the army painter paints and they do what i need them to :)
hey man, i'm using an airbrush and i am actually looking for some tutorials like these. there's not much on airbrushing contrasts and i think there's a real need for people to see this.
Ah thanks! Yes it's my new favourite thing at the moment, especially for larger kits like monsters - i love it! haha
Any vehicle from your pile of shame would be cool to see painted.
Hmm I have currently 1 dreadnought lol Seems like I need to but something! Any suggestions?
@@Bolters_and_Brushes A monolith since I’m guessing you started a Necron army ;0. Or any SM hover tank for the views lol. Edit note: i didn’t know the monolith was so much $ wow
Awesome work really, also lovely commentary and pacing. I am sure this channel will go far :)
Thank you very much for the kind words! I try to do videos that are a combination of tutorial/entertainment and if I can help people or put a smile on their face then it's all worth it :) I would love that and I hope so, Please do share any videos to anyone that may find them useful :):)
Nice work
Thank you kindly :) these were fun to do, I've got q small amount of Nurgle Daemons that I would like to paint soon and I'm looking forward to those after painting these! :):)
DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!! DEATHWATCH !!!!
oo the Deathwatch!! They are like a Rogue marine force that just do what they want when they want! That would be a cool video - What made you want to collect them? - Hope there is a good story in there! :)
*QUESTION(s) OF THE DAY* - Do you use an airbrush? & What videos would you like to see on the SCI-FI Channel?
Airbrush user here, but only really for priming, the occasional zenithal, and vehicles. Panel highlighting tanks is a great way to get some color variance without doing edge highlights.
@@FrozenThrog Ah very good! Ive not tried panel highlighting myself, i certainly appreciate the effort thats put into it as you get some really cool looking transitions! Any vehicles that you are really proud of? :)
@@Bolters_and_Brushes My KV1/2 for Bolt Action probably. I missed to fade out some streaks though.
Don't have an airbrush yet, but I will definitely get one sometime in the future.
I have an airbrush but too scared to try it still But as far as what to see later maybe MCP Marvel Crisis Protocol
Do you use a flow medium when doing the fine details?
I would rarely go to a flow medium, the majority of what i want the paint to do works as i would like it. If i want something thinned down as a finish, such as only wanting to tint a colour then i would use it. But it doesn't crop up too often :)
@@Bolters_and_Brushes Right on thanks for the response brother, enjoy your videos!
I don't like using airbrish as much because you get a lot of overspray like you have here. And as a result the miniature looks more cheap than it could have. It looks kind of washed out, as if you are looking at it with water in your eyes. There is atime and place for airbrush, and that is definitely not the whole miniature
This one was a fun experiment, i wanted to see how much i could do with the airbrush, and how (and if) it would save me time. Don't get me wrong i still prefer using a brush for the majority of what i paint, but it's nice to dabble in these things :)
@@Bolters_and_Brushes i see. But yeah I feel this video demonstrates well the limitations of an airbrush. Don't get me wrong, this still looks better than most of us will ever paint, but I gotta say that your last step of edge highlighting is a major reason for thos. But even still I can see colors intruding on each other where they shouldn't. It almost creates a glowy effect, as if each surface is either reflective or emissive, casting its color on neighbors
This is a great tutorial. I don't like how the gun is painted, but that's a matter of taste. Armor and skeleton are very well done.
Thanks! Glad you like the armour, just wanted to experiment with some colour schemes for 40K
Looks ace but I HATE airbrushing so none of this is useful for me personally.
I was in the same boat as you, I hated airbrushing - spent more time cleaning the darn thing than actually painting! Nowadays it's a great tool for me, i tend to add basecoats on where i can but a lot is still done by brush as i feel like i've got a lot more control.
Nice, but for my money I’d try to make the whites a shade or two lighter. Don’t get me wrong this is well done, mt personal preference would be to go lighter.
na thats cool! It's nice to have a variety of preferences :) For me i tend to get with an off white light grey so i can highlight with white. For these chaps i want them a bit mucky as well for Endor :)
Mmmh. You should use the Speedpaint more sparingly. This trooper is more grey than white. If you spare the white above, the grey would look more like shadow instead of being the primary colour.
I tend to paint an off white light grey colour for whites, that way i can highlight white :) Maybe for something like Tau i maybe would go lighter :)
@@Bolters_and_Brushes Yup. I don't d that too. The problem then is, that the white wont cover the grey as much and it looks like grey. Storm troopers are not just white, but shiny white. I switched to painting darks instead of highlighting white for whites. White doesnt have highlights, but some shadows. looking at cars works for that.
@@hallarious506 I did the snow troopers GW white primer (it's dusty AF) and then white contrast and then highlight the white things white layer and finally polish undercoat for the shinny. They actually look pretty sweet but might think of a cleaner approach for normal Storm Troopers
Wow, like this one the most!
Thank you! Cheers! Im a fan of this one so it will be fun to slowly chip away at a small force of these fellas :)
This scheme is top notch. Just subscribed.
Thank you kindly! I hope to get another video out next week and then start to ramp up the content on here! - Got a box of Kroot recently too :P
*promosm*
As someone who just got the speedpaint complete set I REALLY appreciate your videos, keep em coming 💯
Thank you for the kind words and awesome to hear that you are liking the speedpaint content! I too need to buy the complete set - maybe one day! Im trying to save up the pennies for the new fanatic set! :)
Wow loved this video!
Thank you very much! And happy to hear that you liked it, i really need to get the rest of the set done! Too many miniatures to paint! haha
AWESOME!!! WOW!!!
Thank you kindly :)
This is *exactly* thr idea I had i mind for my small Necron collection. Ceramic look "Zombie" Necrons.
Ah nice!! Have you had the opportunity to start them? :):)
I really likd the fact you used army painter and showed it's citadel equivalent rock on 🤘
Thanks very much! i used citadel for a very long time before i made the switch over so i thought it would be useful to have both, just in case that helps people out :):)
The scheme I'd love to paint Necrons (I'll get some at some point) is in the style of Szarekh the Silent King by Anton Solovianchyk. His body is metallic, but not just one. He has red copper, brass, tin, pewter, and of course gold and silver for spot highlights.
Just had a quick Google and found it - that artwork looks pretty cool! Love the variety of metallics on it :) That will be a great project to do when you get around to it :)
You were right. This one looks incredible. I think this aquamarine/hospital green scheme along with the numbers and glowing weapons look great. This may sound crazy, but the coloring and the way the weapons glow like they're being rapidly cooled makes me think they'd look really good underwater. Not sure how you'd create such a base though, but it'd be cool to see. Either way, I'm staying subbed and excited for the future. This was a great series. Hope we get to see some more Necrons from you.
Thank you kindly! That could be an interesting idea actually- having an underwater storyline as if they were hidden there to sleep or with planet tectonic shifts the land altered and their fate was decided for them and they ended up under water. Glad you liked the series, now that im back into the swing of things for this year i'll be recording more content soon for the channel :)
Love your vids
Thank you very much, I appreciate that :) I'll be doing a lot more 40K next year as I restart my journey into that side of the hobby :)
That mottled green looks incredible, well done on all the weathering! Also that freehand number is out of this world! Looking forwards to seeing what you are capable of in the future :)
Thank you ever much for the kind words, I really enjoy painting so i reckon i will be kept busy for many years to come haha Please do share the channel in your community if you may think any of the videos may be of help to others as i'd love to help & give a bit of entertainment to as many people as i can with my videos :):) I really enjoyed this one, i'm not sure whether to pop a it of weathering powder in and around the feet yet - not sure if it will look too much - what do you think? Perhaps i may wait until i have painted a few more and then do a few basing ideas :)
I like the light effect of this one. So, what's next after this challenge ? Merci pour les vidéos.
Thank you kindly! Well im getting married in just over a week and then a Honeymoon - so i'll be relaxing for a bit :) But for the channel i have a Sisters of Battle mini recorded, Typhus sitting on my desk and a whole bunch of tiny tiny tanks and marines from a 30K era! :P
@@Bolters_and_Brushes Congratulations then. All my best wishes
You took my admech color scheme except you're doing it better. *How dare you, sir!*
oh no!! Great minds think alike! haha :):)
That looks badass! Would look awesome across a whole army.
ah thanks!! It would look cool to see a bunch of these together for sure! Iv'e done the last one now for this challenge and it takes methods from this one to create my final scheme :)
Great tips I will for sure be trying them out!
Thank you kindly and i hope some work out for what you are painting, the last one for this challenge is up tonight and it utilises methods from the previous videos :)
These are excellent. Can you do some Tyranid schemes next?
Thank you very much! Thats a cool idea, if people would like this style of videos in a batch/challenge then i could be persuaded to do more :P
"No airbrush? NO PROBLEM!", I like to hear that. Merci pour la vidéo (and I like your "bronze method" btw, really helpful)
My pleasure! I thought it would certainly be advantageous to have a few scheme in this challenge that does bot require a fancy airbrush. The last one which will be up this evening is hand painted too :):)
I've really enjoyed all of your Necron videos so far, but this one is by far my favorite. As convenient and fast as airbrushes are, they never really compare to the subtle color & texture variations of brushstrokes and sponges. I suspect airbrushes have become so readily available that the once coveted and impressive smooth clean finish has become ordinary and artificial, at least to my eyes. Looking forward to seeing the remaining two, and whatever you may have planned for the future!
Thank you kindly! If you like this one then i think you may like the last one to wrap up the series as it utilises a couple methods from this one - and it will be the start of my Necron's force! :) I do enjoy having the little variations and details when you see a miniature up close - it may not be visible front eh table top but once held in the hand it's nice to see. And also if they tell a story about why they are that colour, what base they they are on, what markings they have, who they are fighting - then it immerses you even more when you are painting and that's what i tried to do for the final Necron :)
So I lack some of the paints (I mostly use Citadel) do you think I could airbrush Ulthuan Grey to start the glow and maybe run Tesseract Glow through an airbrush to achieve a similar effect?
Howdy! Thank you for the question, if its the Ulthaun Grey airbrush paint then that will work perfectly, if its the standard acylic paint then just thin that down a smidge with something like a Vallejo Thinner - or do GW do one? I cant remember Tesseract glow will work well with it, thats quite. a bright punchy colour so using something like Ulthaun which is not a pure white colour will just knock back the Tesseract a little bit - depends how right you want it really :) The last 2 necrons in the series will not be using an airbrush for the non Air users, and i'll switch to a make up brush, so maybe this method may give you ideas also :)
Look Really Good Merci pour la vidéo
Thank you! :) I was unsure after i changed the face - but i think it had to be done in order to try something out and i will certainly have the red and yellow in the final Necron - but probably for the weapon :)
awesome tutorial - evening from here on the south coast UK - o7
Thanks very much! I try to put some energy and my personality behind these as well to make them a bit more interesting :) And gooday southerner! im in the Midlands :)
