UA-cam channel and the accompanying website (www.neurosigns.org) created by William W. Campbell, MD, MSHA, FAAN, FAANEM, COL, MC, USA (Ret) to support and complement the textbooks DeJong's The Neurologic Examination, 8th edition and Clinical Signs in Neurology: a Compendium. The channel and the website are for showing and sharing common or important signs seen in clinical neurology.
Geste Antagoniste (sensory trick), minilecture by Dr. William W. Campbell, FAAN, FAANEM
The geste antagoniste (sensory trick, counterpressure sign, proprioceptive trick) is a maneuver done by patients to control dystonic movements and postures. For instance, patients with cervical dystonia may learn they can straighten their head by placing a hand or finger somewhere on the face, chin or back of the head or performing some other maneuver to provide sensory stimulation or light counterpressure. Reference to the historical paper mentioned is: Broussolle E, Laurencin C, Bernard E, et al. Early Illustrations of Geste Antagoniste in Cervical and Generalized Dystonia. OK sign minilecture by Dr. William W. Campbell, FAAN, FAANEM
Переглядів 3367 місяців тому
OK sign. An inability to oppose the tips of the thumb and index finger due to weakness involving the flexor pollicis longus and the flexor digitorum profundus to the index finger. The patient is only able to touch the finger pads together, not the tips, forming a crude triangle rather than a circle. The OK sign appears in lesions involving the anterior interosseous nerve or the anterior interos...
Asterixis of upper and lower extremities
Переглядів 10 тис.Рік тому
The first segment shows asterixis of the hands, the second segment of the feet. Seen primarily in metabolic encephalopathy, asterixis is an inability to sustain normal muscle tone. With the arms outstretched and wrists extended, “like stopping traffic,” the lapse in postural tone may cause the hands to suddenly flop downward, then quickly recover, causing a slow and irregular flapping motion. O...

22 years have gone by since this video was made. Are you still suffering from it? Hope you are a lot better.
Good morning, is there any way that I can get in touch with you? I suffer from a similar problem to you but cannot get any satisfaction from professionals. I’m particularly interested in the mouth brace. I’ve had about three fitted but they didn’t help as they were not the correct fit to stop my tongue from moving. I would be very obliged to hear from you.
God bless 🙏🏽 him. ❤
God help that lady😢
We medical students r very grateful to patients who agreed to show us their symptoms although they r suffering.
He is a good teacher. He taught me medical knowledge.
Bro saids the F bomb will doing tourettes? I alos have tourertes as well
Looks like the face you make when you try to blow out a candle while holding back a smile

Hope you feel better😢
oculomasticatory myorhythmia in whipple disease - may be assicoaited with ant. or post. uveiitis , retinal findings.
Bro got my man doing morse code and gang signs at the same time. Jokes aside this is sad to watch..
I have this at least three to four times throughout the day or night, just on the left side of my body. The pain is excruciating! Sometimes it affects the muscles I need to inhale. I’ve tried many, many medicines of varying doses with no luck. I get a painful headache on the right side of my brain after it ends, but the gambit of tests do not point to seizures. I’m sure there are many who appreciate your vulnerability to share this experience. You are not alone! #MSWarrior
I'm scared that I have this, I might just start shouting racial slurs
I'm slowly losing my ability to speak properly from brain trauma from decades of torture. The reason I'm posting about it is because it's important to note that there are many things that can cause this, and not every cause is an instant loss of mouth control.

i have tics where my head keeps jerking around and my head hurts
Bro skinny as a mf but at least he got a cool ass ring tho
Thank you, Mr. Patient. Thank you, Doc! God bless!
So joe biden has this? Pseudobulbar palsy?
I hope doctors invent a medicine for tics because I feel embarrassed having it I keep twitching front of my family and I just don't like it it makes me feel weird
I wish my tourette syndrome went away anybody please do something about it
I also have tics i wish it went away p permanent
I feel for him. He's upset he can't let out the words he wants to say! 😢 His frontal lobe (Broca's area; usually on the left frontal lobe) was damaged and its function is the motor aspect of speech, which is why he can clearly understand and follow instructions (temporal lobe intact > Wernicke's area> Sensory aspect of speech), but have garbled or slurred words
Hello, you made another video showing mouth guards , braces that you had made but I can’t find it. Could you post the link please. 😊
Thank you
Who come form nerve damage video BNB😂
Where i can watch this video
Or brainstem video🤪
I JUST DID🤣
as a medstudent, i always struggle to do bicep reflex. looking at this-- so easy
Easy here because his reflexes are hyperactive. Taught students and residents the exam for decades and found a very effective method was to have them examine me. Most common error trainees made with biceps reflex was pressing too hard with the thumb against the tendon. They would squeeze like hell then pound with the hammer and get nothing. Only gentle pressure is necessary.
I’ve had mild tics since I was a kid, and I want everyone to know how uncomfortable it really is for this man. Again mine are only mild, but the feeling of tics is like trying to ignore an itch. Like having something in your eye but rubbing it only provides relief for a second before the feeling comes right back again. I really feel for people with full blown Tourette’s, I can only imagine how uncomfortable they are 24/7 to be in a constant state of this. I tried my best to suppress them most my life because I didn’t know what they were and it was embarrassing. But they are still happening every day, however most people don’t notice because I’m sneaky about it. I subconsciously tic when people aren’t looking. I hope people can learn to understand this condition, it seems too many people think it’s fake or attention-seeking when it’s really just a frustrating affliction.
Sounds like me.
Clear explanation. Thank you

Some words are easy for him; some are not. Poor guy! Hope he is doing better now.
Yes, very common with Broca’s. More automatic responses like “yes/yeah” and “okay” come out smoothly yet when asked to say their name, it’s like a confrontation , not so much automatic. It’s fascinating and heartbreaking at the same time. I hope this gentleman has a great SLP helping him
My heart goes out to him!

How do you treat this?
Can those with expressive aphasia be fluent in writing/typing their thoughts?
No. Patients who can write but not speak have a condition called verbal apraxia.
Thank you very much ❣️
Very helpful!!
Tegretol helps to control it a lot
Thank you ❤
Is the clavicle reflex necessarily pathological or can it simply be found in a person with brisk reflexes ?
