For those who don’t know, the clip shown at the end was of a flight making an emergency landing at (i think) a retired air force base. The emergency landing caused due to a miss calculation in fuel, as the airport had recently switched fuel measurements (the one it departed from). The ATC originally saw 0 airports the plane could make it to, and advised them to ditch in a field. But the pilot remembered the air force base and decided to land there. The issue is, once they got close to the runway they realized 2 things, they were going too high (or fast), I watched this documentary along time ago) and that the runway was now converted to a racetrack! Yay! The pilot needed to fix the 2 errors, FAST, as the pilot was in the air force, he decided to pull a maneuver that he had learned. The maneuver involved practically turning the plane sideways. This ended up helping bc it helped fix the first issue without gathering extra speed. The second issue was unsolvable but in the end, I think they all survived! edit: feel free to correct or add edit 2: Unable to find original source, search for “gimli glider incident” and maybe you will find it.
