We found virgin, Gold bearing alluvium in one of Melbourne's creeks
The old timers either missed this patch or it wasn't profitable enough for them to pan out.
After some research and 2 days of detective work, Vic (Murray Rivers gold adventures) and I finally found some alluvium containing gold in one of Melbourne's creeks.
Its certainly not the last of virgin ground in Melbourne but it is getting rarer every day.

Don’t break your shovel
Alluvium. Mmm, mmm, mmm. The pimples of volcanics near us adjusted the flow of the creeks and the stuff is piled on older siltstone, mudstone, older volcanics, scouring gullies, the rocks and gravels in them dig into and scouring form bubbling voids, cuts deep to bedrock, slumped edges, waterfalls on the uplifted hills, but hit-and-miss where there might be pockets of accumulated gold, or the alluvium itself has good gold in it, from us crushing really hardened stuff that looked like sandy concrete pebbles in the alluvial dirt, but I've come to think of this mixture type as mini conglomerate, in among the muddy but crumbly dirt, concreted by mineralisation and compaction. Your thoughts, Matt? Ah, nah, yeah, uh. Sacre bleugh. Melbourne Zone, Murrundindi?! Ours is called Lysterfield siltstone, as it's own soil type zone, if I haven't already mentioned about maps specifically about soil zones in your area are a good help when you're zoning in, as without knowing you really end up zoning out in confusion. Bits of gold though keep you interested until it's figured out somewhat. Good luck!
You can tell you spend all day panning look at those bloody arms you weapon 😂✌️
At least there is gold there Matt just got to find the line ay Are you got Matt’s crevice in tool And Matt using it And with Matt’s car to get you there Using Matt’s petrol too Matt’s a good bloke lol is Matt lol Cheers 🍻 CrouchOz
@@thesurfingprospector6345 i don't think there is a line as its basically petrified flood debris from thousands of years ago. I reckon this was the stuff they were chasing in the old days and I know the area was worked harder than a English kid in a coal mine so they probably scoffed at the smaller amount of gold in this particular spot
@@frenchys_prospecting hahahaha poor kid lol
Good job frenchy. Gotta test test test. There will be some good pockets in there for sure. Cheers for the shout on the gear.
@@Matts_Crevice_tools I certainly hope so. At least we know where some gold is and it's not going very far any time soon. No probs on the shout out mate.

Entirely understandable, after 3 hours in then another 3 out, boulders on rocks on bedrock, Matt, I'd be recomposing at home for several days, but a satisfying sniff for the better chunks and flakes, onya the generous Andy. It's maybe a good thing Vic didn't spill his guts or bowels in or on the creek, it'd be a horror but rate enormous figures, hope he made it back safely and soundly. I know he went again to Anderson's, back to basics. Cheers, and avagoodweekend.

"...we couldn't have done it in a more picturesque spot." 😂
Well done You on showing how tough some days can be. I'm sort of over seeing peoples toes and then 2 grams of gold in a pan at the end of the tape. But I imagine if there was good gold at your dads spot , then it would have been just toes. And thats how it should be.
@@mohammednovalija yeah im over toe vids myself. I'm not making videos every time I go out but when I do make vids id rather be able to show areas so I don't have to think too hard about what I should be hiding. With this video no one would have seen this place and when I do hopefully find some colour no one will probably no where it is anyway. I'd rather make vids like this than the same rehashed vogus style vids we've been seeing lately.
Is that the same Mountain Goat Creek where you got 2 grams last time there ? - OR a different one.
@@mohammednovalija every creek is mountain goat creek. Lol Nah, completely different. "Live and Learn" best quote ever 😊
It's an itch that needs scratching, good you got to where your dad and great granddad had been, maybe their broken glass. It's exploring until you've done at least one pan... Leeches, they're on the yabbies, on their connection points of their legs and pincers, spotted on a colony of large blue yabbies in the Dandenongs, in the water or up a muddy gully under fern trees, bloody leeches on the fronds. The quartz would be dropping out of the host rock, probably the elevated hills and the mudstone solid from mineralisation and pressure of that rock. We've the nearby Lysterfield mudstone beside the Little Hills granites, interesting to see the "soil types" maps for the area getting explored, but maps don't show up so well the up-and-down of the hills and gullies, how do grass meadows go nearly vertically and almost loop-the-loop, where the mountain goats poop. Onya Frenchy.
@@gabivalla6279 that is really interesting. I never thought about the yabbies

There’s certainly some crap spots to get too, I’ve been to a gully in kinglake that was steep thick and leechly at the bottom, not fun
@@KingGold1851 its all part of the fun. I often reflect on how the old timers would have done it without having a 4x4 at the top of the hill and clean water to drink. For me, it was a fun few hours exploring. For them, it was a Tuesday
