Actually most places do accept credit cards. Just make sure you take one that has no transaction fees. Also, I have found with my Capital One card that I get a better conversion rate if I charge in the local currency rather than in US dollars. Each place you go is different but Viet Nam and Thailand you can get a lot for your money compared to the states.
