MMHP S5 Ep13--Andy Reed:Recording Great Lakes Humble Harmonies Part 2 of 2
Musician, Producer, Engineer, Fan--Andy Reed wears many hats in the Michigan music buffet. Known for his productions out of Reed Recording, the former Verve Pipe bassist/solo artist has pushed the boundaries of creativeness in all areas of performance. Based in Bay City, Reed is a first-call Nashville unit for artists to travel when Music City needs a hand. Having put out his own brilliant albums for years with Legal Matters and An American Underdog, Reed hit the recording bug when working his first album with the Haskels down at Brendan Benson's pad, pre-Nashville move.
Reed is humble, musical, full of power pop and harmonic ideas, and can work fast in the studio. His love of Beatles and Beach Boys goes hand in hand with his '90s music upbringing.
Here in Part 2, Andy talks favorite projects, Welcome To 1979, Beatles, Beach Boys, Grammy's, his local music family, and HIS Family. Get on this Part 2 of 2 today!

Donnie is amazing. TVP hasn’t been the same since he left. They kinda suck now. Never be ashamed of the Frog album - it fing rocks. Thanks for being in the soundtrack of my life my friend
Great episode. Once had the pleasure of working with Andy. Such a good guy. Wish he’d been around in ‘69.
Great interview.
Thank you!
GREAT
What a fabulous discussion Mel
As always Scott, a most excellent interview with one of Mid Michigan's finest
Thank you so much!
Nice job y'all 👍🤓👍
Thanks so much!
Very cool. I've known Mel for a couple of decades...what an incredible man leading a truly interesting life. Happy to call Mel my friend.
Thank you for tuning in!
John Hebert played lead guitar in two Bay City bands that I was a founding member of: B.W. Shack and Smackwater. Smackwater had a New Year's Eve gig in Midland and our lead singer didn't show up. So John sang lead for that night and several other gigs.
A 3 minute story spun out needlessly.
Hope you got to check out Daniel's podcast on it all. It ended up being quite a fantastic spread of info and insanity.
I met Steve about 25 years ago. He was a car hauler and I was too. I was always picking his brain...lol. Great guy and lots of cool stories about many classic rockers. Turn it up and rock on 🤘
Added to Popstar playlist.
Hi Guys
VERY good! Once I got used to the mic volume/balance imbalance I really enjoyed it. I liked the host, Scott Baker, and listening to Mark Sanders' growing up and rocking from his folk days to the present.
Thanks so much. Heads are turning to talk constantly at the big table...roping in the sound the best we can
VERY good!
Thank you very much!
Big ups 👍👍
Promote your album old or new write a book push SRC merch - that's all good not bad! 👍
I have an original band shirt for Barooga Bandit. If anyone wants it let me know. Not familiar with them. It was in my attic at my new house
please email me at mmhp989@gmail.com --yes we need that! So cool!
Thanks y'all for sharing 👍🤓👍❣️
Absolutely! Patrick is one of the BEST!
Nice surprise having these boys on!
Thank you! What a show...part two this Thursday
Thanks for sharing 👍🤓👍. Listening to rerun now❤
Thank you!
Lugo hasn't stopped smiling since he came out of the womb....I love that guy
What a great show with a LEGEND! Hit the subscribe button if you would...
Great job guys👍🤓👍
Thank you! Keep tuning in and subscribe, please!
Awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!
Enjoyed hearing all the stories about the band and the music - Steve was an integral part of the SRC and many of their iconic songs (also a nice guy!!) 😎🎶🎸
Absolutely--thank you for tuning in!
Great interview. I love this band. I never stopped listening. Love all the back round. Stuff
Thank you!
You are exactly right concerning Capitol and the lack of promotion. SRC, Bob Seger System, Bang, Bloodrock, and Nitzinger all suffered from their shortsightedness.
Steve is a great guy. SRC was not helped by his leaving the band.
Thank you!
That’s my grandma
Your Grandma laid the groundwork for women in rock and roll, right outta Michigan. She's incredible!
Cool show.
Thank you for tuning in. Part 2 comes out Thursday the 22...
Wonderful interview. Thank you to the MMHP and Bob Martin.
Thank you Bob!
Great show start to finish! That was a good guest.
Thank you so much! Keep enjoying...MMHP989
Cool peace of history and great photos.
Thank you so much! Episode 2 is out this Thursday....
Great Episode!
Thanks Round!
Great Episode!
We appreciate that Round!
Thank you for getting this interview on so quickly. We all miss Ric so much and it was great listening to him talk about his favorite subject - Michigan Music..
We are glad you enjoyed it. Love to all of Ric's Family, Friends and Listeners
Season 4. Incredible! Congratulations to all you guys. MMHP is a treasure.
Thank you!
the interview! I'm a 67 year old woman in WA State. Watched the band play on a PBS "MY Music" Special. I fell in Love all over again!!! Getting re-acquainted with the band who stole my heart with 96 Tears in 1966. Am hoping for a chance to see the band live while we're all still Young and Able. Watching all the videos I can I really admire not only the music, but the men. Thanks Frank for letting me know my intuition is correct. You are a good man and I believe so too are your band mates!!! If you go on the Road please consider the Portland, OR/ Vancouver, WA area. It would be my life's Dream Come True ❤
They just reunited in Saginaw about three weeks ago for the first time in a while. There are some clips on Facebook, possibly UA-cam. We hope they will do more as well. Not sure if they will tour anymore though...never say never.
I have a video of Repulsion playing here in 1991!😊
Very cool!
Go Dad!! So cool!! I had no clue his music career went so deep even though it was cut short. I can only imagine how much farther he could have gone.
I'm trying to keep him playing...:)
Interesting Interview... Trev
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is so 🆒😎
....if someone posts a fake/forgery of a poster-makers image, is it's a posted, poster-imposter? 🤔
🤣
Effervesent backstories. The joy exudes. Great contribution Scott Makes my music chasing seem so fulfilling When you get a peek at the heart behind the songs, its so encouraging
So GLAD you enjoyed it...throw it over to your music friends. Pass it along...Big LOVE
What a refreshing deep dive into the soul of a songwriter
That was an amazing show--Jen is unreal! Thank you
Incredible history -- so enjoyable listening to the stories!
great-----there were a lot of top model car builders in Mich. -that dug the music back in the day-Do not forget"Mitch Ryder-you gotta get Q back in front of his fans and Frank great organ player -love the bass line in "96 Tears' what bass did you use-?-what amps did you use-?
Have to have another chat regarding gear....
Thanks for another most excellent history lesson on our great mid-Michigan's music heritage
Fun episode!! Thank you for listening!
Great to hear Don’s stories. He put me in my first show band in Saginaw in 1972. Thanks guys! 👍
Awesome to hear this. Thank you for listening!
Really cool hearing my dad talked about from all those years ago.
Thanks for tuning in! He’s really a special artist that is only just getting his due… please feel free to send us any photos or stories!
@@scottbaker8970 he never really talked much about his playing days. Probably due to the severe injury to his left hand back then that, in the end left him with next to no mobility in his pinky and ring finger till this day. Which, according to him, was the reason he played on all but two of the songs on “Strange But True”. He rarely played much when I was kid. Mainly tinkered around once in a blue moon.
I’m in the works trying to line him up for a podcast with someone else from his era. Season Three if it works out. He was going to be on this podcast, but forgot and had dinner plans…
Your Dad will be this week's feature podcast. It arrives this Thursday. Please share it!
