Thanks for visiting my channel.
I am a man well and truly bitten by OCD ( obsessive camping disorder ), who loves exploring wild and remote parts of the UK. As a person who has always struggled with anxiety, it's my life detox and the more remote it is, the more I enjoy it. You'll find me wild camping and staying in bothies, all using equipment that doesn't break the bank. I'm certainly not made of money!
I also love being active, so if there is a challenging mountain to climb or a testing route to hike or cycle, then you may well find me taking it on.
Please subscribe and comment if you like my videos as I would love to know what you think and how they could be further improved in the future.

In Need Of An Escape- A Four Day Adventure In The Central Highlands
In late October 2024, I headed to The Central Highlands to enjoy four days in the wilds of the Scottish mountains. What an adventure it was. Along the way I visited remote bothies in stunning locations, stayed at YHA Ossian and met some interesting folk along the way.
It was a memorable trip for all the right reasons and I finished by totally agreeing with some words I saw written in a bothy book- nature rewards braveness.

Leaving The Crowds Behind- A Brilliant Wild Camp At Great Moss
Переглядів 1293 місяці тому
Having not wild camped for many months, I was both excited and nervous about heading out again on my own for a night under canvas. I needn't have worried. Eskdale was my location of choice and the views blew me away from the start. I continued to follow the tumbling Esk River until I reached The Great Moss- a wild and remote plateau surrounded by high mountains. What a location it is! I pitched...
Lake Swimming & Road Cycling In The Lake District
Переглядів 1244 місяці тому
While in The Lakes, I decided to get some good triathlon training in. I started with a wetsuit swim in Crummock Water, which offered clear water and great conditions for a dip. After a much needed feed, it was then onto the road bike to complete a brilliant circular route, which saw me doing battle with the savage gradients on Honister Pass.
Winter Camping And Hiking In Glencoe
Переглядів 3959 місяців тому
After battling knee deep snow in The Cairngorms, myself and my mate Jack headed across to Glencoe to see in the new year. We would base ourselves on an amazing campsite, which even had its own food van. A haggis burger goes down very well indeed on a long cold December night! New Years Day saw us taking on an amazing hike around Glen Etive. The views were incredible. Snowy mountains, deer and i...
Snowy Days & Warm Bothy Nights At The Red House and Hutchinson Memorial Hut

What a trip this was! Myself and my mate Jack were in need of some snow and adventure just after Christmas and so a trip was planned that would take us deep into the heart of The Cairngorms. It didn't disappoint. A great night was had at The Red House Bothy on the first night before we completed one of the toughest hikes we've ever done the following day. Driving snow, fading light and knee dee...
A Stunning Circular Hike To Mosedale Cottage Bothy
Переглядів 35110 місяців тому
What a varied and amazing hike this was. Parking by Haweswater, I started by following The Old Corpse Road. As the name suggests, this was a route that used to be used to transport the dead across the hills so that they could be buried in hallowed ground. From here I continued to wild and remote moorland, where Mosedale Cottage was finally reached and explored. Finally, I entered a more rugged ...
Hiking The Unforgettable Haystacks Ridge- Wainwright Country At Its Finest
Переглядів 11311 місяців тому
After a night at Warnscale Bothy, I enjoyed an incredible hike up to Haystacks via Inominate Tarn. From here I followed the ridge all the way to Red Pike before dropping down to Buttermere for a moonlit walk back to the car.
Meeting The Bravest Mouse Ever At Warmscale Head Bothy
Переглядів 53111 місяців тому
In late October I enjoyed Warnscale Head Bothy near Buttermere all to myself and had a great night by the fire enjoying lots of food, drink, solitude and incredible views too before it got dark. What a setting this bothy has! Things got interesting though, as the resident mouse made itself known and proved to be the most brazen little fella I've come across. It even ended up with me sleeping in...
Exploring The Northern Fells- Skiddaw House, Blencathra and Bowscale Tarn
Переглядів 85Рік тому
What an amazing day out this was! After spending the night at Lingy Hut Bothy and eating a breakfast fit for champions, I started a walk that was to last the entire day. My first destination was Skiddaw House, which is the highest and one the most remote youth hostels in England. After this it was time for the main course- Blencathra. I climbed it from the less technical side, but it was still ...
Climbing Into The Clouds For A Solo Night At Lingy Hut Bothy
Переглядів 545Рік тому
I would start my week long adventure up in the Lake District by staying at Lingy Hut Bothy. Located in the quieter northern fells of the national park, I enjoyed a brilliant hike up to the bothy along a stunning valley and up past tumbling waterfalls and an abandoned mine. By the time I reached Lingy Hut, the clouds had well and truly swallowed myself and the building whole. There was no view a...
Hiking and Wild Camping In The Howgill Fells. Taking Shelter From The Wind and Rain In A Sheepfold
Переглядів 461Рік тому
This one didn't go according to plan, but it was still a great trip. I had planned to camp in a famous sheepfold just below The Calf. Arriving late meant these plans changed and I ended up in a completely different sheepfold in a different valley. It didn't matter though as the hiking and wild camping I enjoyed was still great. The trip was finished with a descent of Cautley Spout- England's hi...

The Quieter Side Of The Yorkshire Dales- A Stunning Summit Camp In The Howgill Fells
Переглядів 192Рік тому
The Howgill Fells are a little-known but beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales. On this trip I explore the western side of the fells, entering a remote valley and discovering Black Force waterfall. What a sight it was! After this, a steep pathless climb was undertaken, which took me to the summit of Fell Head. Weather conditions were perfect and a great wild camp was very much enjoyed.
Exploring Scotland's Far North- A Walk To Sandwood Bay & Night At Strathchailleach Bothy
Переглядів 280Рік тому
What an amazing part of Scotland this is. On this walk, I first travel to Sandwood Bay and just stand in awe at the beauty of this remote beach. From here it was journey across bleak moorland to the remote mountain bothy of Strathchailleach. This building in the middle of nowhere was the former home of James Mcrory-Smith, who was affectionately known as Sandy. Spending the evening and night her...

A Two Night Adventure In The Cambrian Mountains- Summit Camping and A Bothy Stay At Moel Prysgau.
What an great adventure! The Central Highlands look absolutely stunning, and the remote bothies you visited seem like such peaceful escapes. Loved how the trip was full of unique moments and the connection to nature really came through. That quote from the bothy book, “nature rewards braveness,” is really inspiring - it sums up the spirit of the whole journey!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. Certainly is a stunning place and pleased to hopefully be heading back to The Highlands just after Christmas. Lots of snow then hopefully.
Hi Dan, I think this is my first watch of one of your adventures and I really enjoyed it and listening to what you have to say too. This type of trip was very similar to my own earlier in the year hiking across the Cairngorms and catching the late bus home. . It also reminded me of the time I spent at loch Ossian YH probably about 20 years ago now. Like you I’m sure I too am really looking forward to another trip to Scotland next year. ATB Dan. 🥃
Thanks Dave. I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope I went some way in doing it justice. I bet the hostel 20 years ago wasn't much different to today. Well..... I am not sure if it had hot water and electricity back then.
@ every person staying had to had pump water up from the Loch I wondered if you still had to do that Dan 👍
Alright there Dab - a full happy view mate. An epic walk in and friendly meeting with the camper. But how good you chose to walk on - ah that valley was awe inspiring and hey, still. Yeah, perfect to commune with the mountains from down below, which I like. A tad wet the next day but nothing to worry about. Sweet walk out. All the best. Mark
Onwards the brave 🏴
Nowhere beats Scotland in my humble opinion.
@danexitsstreetview3273 thankyou shes a thing of beauty is our Scotland enjoy 👌
@@johnmulligan7853 Certainly is. Proud to have family from both Scotland and Ireland. Love each.
It's your book of ghost stories thats put the terrors up you!
Yes I don't help myself Jack.
,looked fantastic !
It certainly was. Hope I went some way in doing it justice. Thanks for watching.
Great video, shame about the drone. It all looked so beautiful
Aye it is Mike. Can't recommend a trip to the Highlands enough. I'm going back between Christmas and NY. Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed that Dan , glad to see you back out and making vlogs again. You picked a lovely spot to pitch up as well, apart from the midges which we all know are a pain in the arse 😩😩 ATB Mark & Simon.
Love the bothys ,i was at 🍏 Cross the other day by kayak amazing place
Great video and I liked the outdoors shots at the end. I'd recommend spikes for the snow. I've used the Scarpa Ranger for years. It's a bit heavier than the Terra, but I find it excellent in the type of mud conditions you showed.
👌
Yorgen Tillbreaker Von ballbusta here , I’m Norwegian and live in the Lake District Uk, I have theses boots , they’ve been great , I’ve walked over 2000 miles in them and have only had 10 new soles , and the uppers have been replaced 7 times, plus 8 sets of laces, apart from this they’ve been great 👍
Worn many different boots, fabric, leather and so on. These are the best. Comfortable, and waterproof for years. Always buy these now
Great
Hoping to do this next year 👍
You'll love it. A stunning hike.
Just found your video. I have to say it was beautifully shot and edited. Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing
Very kind words. Glad it is still being enjoyed a year after I was there.
Brilliant video mate fantastic to see a normal person without a grand plus gear list and still out and enjoying themselves you've got thr right idea 💡
I love Islay (I did some cycling there) and Jura. I've hiked over a dozen times in Europe but not much in my native Scotland. I'm glad I discovered your videos. To be honest, it was initially because I was curious about the route the missing hiker (as reported on the BBC website) took: Inverie to Glenfinnan. That's the first video of yours I watched. Your films are well-presented and beautifully shot but above all it's your spirit, your appreciation, your enthusiasm and your gratitude that are most compelling. May God continue to protect you and bless you. I can definitely see He has already...🙏
Very kind words Lee. I am assuming that's your name from your username? A beautiful island and i will be back albeit outside of summer. Never want to experience those midges and bracken again!
@@danexitsstreetview3273 "Leenie" is my nickname :) Have you ever thought of doing the Camino de Santiago? The one (called the "Francés") from Saint Jean Pied de Port is the classic (and imho the best for many reasons) but there are so many others, beginning in different places in France, Switzerland, Germany and other countries in Europe. It has its own challenges. I met a young American woman who had done the Appalachian Trail "thru hike" and she said the Camino had challenges she hadn't expected eg. her first blisters and the dry heat especially during the more exposed stages during the "Meseta" part.
Vitamin B tablets, Marmite, chewing garlic and, above all, repellent. There ARE solutions.
"Cheers" in Scottish Gaelic is "Slàinthe Mhath" (sla-nge-va(r)) and means "Good health". Or you can just say "Sláinthe" (slan-the) for short. So it's the same in Irish Gaelic except it's pronounced differently apparently ("sloyn-cheh"). I do hope, however, that nobody's going to think that drinking more than a couple of drops of alcohol while hiking in the remote Highlands with its unpredictable weather is remotely a good idea... You need ALL your wits about you. (And some people, as we know or ought to know, aren't capable of drinking just one miniature and stopping there 😢)
*"Slan-teh"
Great vlog Dan, just found your channel and subscribed. Great moss looks a cracking place to spend the night and it's on my list to do. How long is the walk from the car please, thank you.
Hi Dan Fabulous video great ventures really deep snow Lovely clip for Asda‘s to use Jack walking across the bridge
Thanks Jen. I visited Jack the other day and we ended up talking about this epic trip again. It was so damn hard at the time, but an unforgettable experience.
Thanks for this I’m actually in the market for one and this has been really useful
Love that area 🤘
Yes massively underrated.
Good to see you out there again
Cheers Jack. Yes good to be back camping out. What a spot it was!
am 6ft5, so...... tent out side then!
superb
Superb video as always Dan, and looks like a great trip. Hazy Jane & a curry definitely hit the spot!! Good to have you back mate
Thanks Marcus. Glad you enjoyed it and already planning the next trip. Cheers and have a good weekend.
Hello Dan. Good video mate. Nice to see you back out with a tent. Beautiful area nice views, don't blame you sitting out the tent for a read. Glad you had a good sleep. Looking forward to the next one👍
Cheers Jamie. Planning the next trip already. I have missed it.
@danexitsstreetview3273 Really good to see you out again. Your videos are very good mate🫡👍
@@JamieHarding5 Thanks Jamie. They don't get many views compared to some, but glad they're still appreciated by others who enjoy getting out in the wild.
The building in the sea may ha e been a WW2 pill box aswell
Triathlon for the win 👌
Oooh yeah!
It is legal in Scotland, also have the right to roam anywhere.
Great to see you Dan….I did wonder where you’d gone. Fair play my friend, I doff my cap to your triathlon exploits! What a place to do some training, lovely part of the world. Looking forward to seeing more. All the best, Marcus ps hope to see some camping as well at some point
Cheers Marcus. Good to be back and just uploaded a camping video too. Was a blast!
Did you call the mouse terry ??????
Beautiful place, although "mountains" seems a bit exaggerated.
Braw video mate, from a Scotsman yet to visit this island (heading next week) I suggest you check out the Outer Hebridean islands
Brace yourself for midges and six foot bracken if you are hiking. Still cracking though. Want to get out to Lewis and Harris but again think August could be plagued with midges. Ruined a fair bit of the trip last summer if I am honest. Proper nasty when camping.
Good morning Dan. Nice to see you back out again. Well done on your swim too. Beautiful weather and views. You put in a shift then💪👏👏
My hat off to you Dan..know that area well..go a couple of times a year to Borrowdale. .yes that drop into keswick off the A66 is a warming sight...that climb to the slate mine is hard enough in a car let alone a bike !. Keep up the videos mate..a joy to watch .
Cheers Dave. Back up there on Wednesday. Doing some big road climbs in The Pennines before heading over t' Lakes once more.
Good video, nice to see you back on the UA-cams. I like the change in direction!
Thanks Jack. Going to post occasional stuff on here, but setting up a new channel too, which hopes to track my triathlon journey.
Great video
Having grown up on the Isle of Lewis I can relate to the midge problem..people don’t realise just how life changing they are ….you literally can’t go outside without repellent, nets, etc
Wanted to go back to the islands during August, but just worried that the damn midges will ruin it. Coll and Tiree were on the cards. Have you visited?
@@danexitsstreetview3273 no, I’ve lived in Lewis for the first 20 years of my life and have travelled through Skye, Mull, Iona,Staffa, Benbeculla, Arran and Shetland but I do want to see Mull,Tiree and Muck. But damn those midges
Can anyone recommend a non gortex boot
I can't I am afraid as only had these. Still going strong though and not sure why you wouldn't want gore tex if hiking in the UK or anywhere fairly wet. Best of luck in your search though.
@@danexitsstreetview3273 thanks for your reply, I suffer with hot feet and gortex is to hot and sweaty, I prefer the cambered lining or non at all and use mink oil on the leather. Cheers Ant.
I want to go here, but I'm told it rains all the time
Well it doesn't as you can see. Stunning and well worth the visit.
Beautiful video Dan. Some beaches in the UK are stunning just like abroad. Tough summer. Hope you are okay mate. It's been ages since your last video. Please give me a thumbs or get lost so I know you are okay. I walk often because I know the benefits and it helps me so much. Hope to see more from you soon mate👋
the gold bit on the end of the guide lines is a tensioning bit chap
I will stick to the good old Vango Banshee 200. Ive had that for a decade now , quick to put up and just right for one person. I tried other types of tents, but for the price it is such a strong reliable tent. Big plus for me is that you can open it either side. Don't like the enclosed feeling of a tunnel tent. But if it works for you great.
It's Jerry - not Terry! As in Tom and Jerry.
Up that way in August..great video Dan
Great video. Very informative.
Gorgeous little film.
Well deserved for one of my favourite mountains. So wild.
