Magic Mountain: Deadline Ridge Part Deux
Day four of the Ski Idaho Introduction to Backcountry Skiing press tour (Jan. 11) found us at Magic Mountain exploring the backcountry off Deadline Ridge immediately south of the resort. After dropping down the east side of Deadline Ridge, we skinned up a small ridge to the south and took a couple of laps down into the bowl we found on the other side. Many thanks to Magic Mountain for the lift bump. Many thanks to Weston Backcountry Skis for the demo Summits with the Dynafit rotation bindings - I absolutely loved them. And many, many thanks to the U.S. Forest Service, Sawtooth National Forest, and Minidoka Ranger District for allowing us to explore the backcountry adjacent to Magic Mountain and document our experience.

On day two of Ski Idaho's "Introduction to Backcountry Skiing" press tour, we explored the Island of Misfit Toys terrain immediately north of Soldier Mountain. A huge shoutout to the USFS and the Sawtooth National Forest for allowing us to film our experience.

A Sticky Chute at Bogus Basin

I was at Bogus Basin on Friday (4/28/23) and decided to ski the chute at the top of the Pine Creek Chair right under the lift. The snow was a little sticky and I caught an edge right after I exited the chute and took an epic spill. What a hoot!

I was at Bogus Basin on April 21, 2023, and found myself at the top of Showcase with the run to myself, so I decided to tuck it and see how fast I could get going. Slopes clocked me at 51.6 mph. Here's what that looked like.

I visited Bald Mountain near Pierce, Idaho, over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. The footage highlights this nonprofit ski area's breathtaking views of the Clearwater Mountains. To reach the bottom of the T-bar you either go skier’s left instead of crossing the lift line or you hang a left just before the lodge.

I'm totally jealous, John. I bet it is. It's been groomed each time I've skied it. That said, every time I've skied it has been a bluebird day, which I'm told is pretty rare there (hence all the snow).

I was traveling for work in Burley and was scheduled to fly out on BOI on 4/5. I had never heard of Bogus Basin until a day before my flight from Florida. My work buddy and I decided to have a cup of coffee on April 4 at the pioneer lodge. After seeing the conditions, we decided to take a PTO day and extend our visit. It was an epic day for us “East coaster!”

Never knew who Lee Fields was until I saw the Super Bowl Commercial. Love this Guy......
Alot has changed since my days of skiing there. The big jump at the top of the steep part on jump hill was taken out. (Which is why it was named jump hill). All of the other run names have changed. Main street was called 3/4, and there was a big jump over there called 3/4. There were two trails, one on the left called jump trail, and one on the right, do not remember the name.
