The newer DW lost the soul. The "game" is gone and replaced with more enemies and giant maps that feel empty. In 3 every map felt like you were doing something important, and it was hard, challenging etc. The stories were better in the newer games, but the fun was sacrificed.

For me it all ended with Dynasty Warriors 4 maybe 5,,,, it all just got too easy, at least the 1 v 1000 used to be a challenge and fun. the fact you could lose.. but it came to a point where, you just can't lose. can nearly play blindfolded and without limbs.

Im surprised that one of your criticisms is that DW3 looks bad graphically. I understand its subjective but what DW3 accomplished stands out strongly considering its age. The color pallete of 3 is eye catching and pleasant to look at, while modern games are rather washed with with an endless sea of browns and greys. In addition the armor and weapon models are shockingly detailed upon close inspection. The game came out in 2003 but it still looks rather digestable. Emulation takes it a step further by adding unimagined levels of clearness for such an old title. It could come down to bias, but the particular take on graphical fidelity is lost on me. Art direction and style has always come first in my opinion.

Think the games went wrong (besides 9 that is all wrong) with the objective stuff. Could keep that for a story mode, so battles go like they did in history but otherwise let it just play out. Remember the struggles of running out to close a gate off, to rush back to protect the leader, and slowly chip away at beating them back. Newer games are, do this and no risk unless you die basically.

The Pirate Warriors games are arguably the best licensed Koei Musou/Warriors games (Hyrule Warriors being their biggest competition for that crown), but yeah, if you don't like that kind of game, they aren't gonna change your mind. I would say 3 is better than 4, though. Fighting games: every day that passes without the announcement of a "One Piece FighterZ" from Arc System Works is a day I die a little inside. Hell, instead of multiple seasons of DLC for the DBZ one, we should have a One Piece version, a Jojo version, and a Jump crossover version by now. Odyssey is so close to being great. They came up with this really cool battle system with lots of opportunity for fun strategy... and then tuned the damage numbers for Babby's First JRPG. Adjustable difficulty settings would have saved it. As nice as some good video games would be though, as a well-rounded renaissance gamer, what I REALLY want is some good One Piece *tabletop* games. The TCG Bandai is putting out is okay, but for one thing I hate the collectible business model - a.k.a. loot boxes in meatspace - and for another, while it's a good head-to-head battle game featuring One Piece characters, it's not a very good One Piece game, in terms of the experience of playing it capturing the feel of watching/reading One Piece. I think the best fit besides a pen-and-paper RPG would be a co-op adventure board game in the vein of Arkham Horror (but themed around piratey adventure rather than cosmic horror, of course).

Yeah that nostalgia bug is biting hard 3 is absolutely not better than 8. 5 and 8 complete edition are the best in the series

You don’t have to afk skill, if you just do all of the story and normal quests you will be transcender and level 100 in like 6 hours

Individual story modes needs to comeback. The replay value shoots up to the moon after that.

grand piece online and rell seas (in alpha) are the best OP games, they arent offial since they are on roblox but no joke somehow they are better than 99% of all the actual one piece games

Dynasty Warriors 3 was a perfect blend from the size of the Roster, the soundtrack, the bodyguard system + new weapon system and the AI acted more aggressive both Enemies and Allies. DW8 & more so DW9 the enemies and allies remain stagnant and passive more often.

If I get a chance to relive my childhood, then I want to play DW3 for the first time again and unlock everything (sadly I don't have Xtreme Legends).

2001 was crazy when you look back at what was released. I wonder if we will ever get another year like that again?

"Better" is subjective. But it's definitely "different". So if you like 2-5 style of ps2 era then you may or may not like 6-9 style of new era.

The One Piece fighting game on the Wonderswan was good. Course it's incredibly dated now.

most games i played are good though? World red, odyssey(even though it’s too easy), pirate warriors(meh, but still enjoyable), unlimited cruise 1 and 2 (loved them), romance dawn.

Personally I think Pirate Warrior 2 is better then 4, even though you don't get more recent arcs and characters. Pirate Warriors 2 has an original story that is really interesting were Blackbeard uses a rare Dial he finds called the darkness Dial, that allows him to turn people evil. Most of the Strawhats turn evil from this dial except for Luffy and Nami, and you have to fight other crew members and other character to free them from their evil selves. Narrative is really interesting and unique.

You should try the previous Unlimited Series which is Unlimited Cruise 1 and 2. They have so much personality and fun. World Red is definitely the weakest entry in the series and is a massive downgrade.

I have been watching since I was 11 years old (21 years ago) I have still never played a one piece game.

Each game they add a few new gameplay mechanics/modes, the frustrating part is when the next game comes out and they scrap those mechanics/modes that you may have enjoyed... each game ends up being "i wish this was still in the game"

Classic fanboys are still blind over nostalgia over the fact that DW3 has the most unfair combat system compare to newer genre. When people prefer 3 to 8, DW8 has to be the best way to attract new players to the fanbase since its the easiest game in the franchise. 1vs 1000 formula was made for the sole purpose of satisfying the player base with its satisfaction so that they can stick the game more. Also, DW8 tend to be easier for people who enjoy the game and not being die hard for once. Yes, dw3 is challenging for veteran but rarely for newcomer who new to the franchise. The DW3 should need a remake debut has to be the most questioning suggestion ever because what do they have to remake from old classic game? change the gameplay? upgrade graphic? This is just like GTA Trilogy all over again and its never been a good sign to make old games looks better even for classics. Better stick to old game engine and not touch it unless they shadow drop to steam like SW4-DX. Yes, everyone love aggressive enemies but dont forget the camera control in classic game (Oh wait theres none). Dealing with them is not even fun, its just unfair cluster freak when u tried to aim for enemy officer and get airborne combo by them (Not a fun experience)

Onimusha 2 was the first one I played and still my favorite. Beat it countless times. I was sad when the Onimusha ps4 version sold poorly, because that sealed the fate of a Onimusha 2 re-release.

I agree, Onimusha 2 is easily the best game in the series. One thing you did not touch on is just how much better and more fluid the combat is compared to 1 and 3. You get the secret arts for every weapon and each of the 3 charge levels is actually a different move, but the unsung hero of this game's combat is the running attack. In this game the running state is instant as soon as you press forwards (reminds me of Ninja Gaiden) this means you can combo the running attack fluidly into anything. Another great thing about the combat is the combo properties some moves have. The running attack of the sword for example stands enemies back up in a stunned state. I was so disappointed with the combat in the third game.

This is one of the best Onimushas. I love the friendship system and the adventure is the most epic of them all in my opinion.
