I don’t care about the slopes or the snow quality. I just want to go telemark skiing somewhere that’s safe and quiet with no one else around. I’m streaming on UA-cam from NIPPON.

@@mtnvalley9298 Wow! You must be an expert telemark skier! Thank you for your kind words and I wish you a great ski season!
Wow, paradise !✌
I totally agree!
Oh man, that looks soooo nice!
It was very impressive!
Beautiful skiing!
Thank you for your favorable comments! Are you a telemark skier?
@@chillwalk. Yes, I am a tele skier for the last 15 years! I live and ski in the Sierra Nevada Mountains around Lake Tahoe. If you ever come this way let me know and we can enjoy a day in the mountains! Your videos are really beautiful and the skiing is fantastic. I've been so happy to discover the amazing telemark scene in Japan via UA-cam. So many great skiers, so much amazing snow! Thank you for the time and care you put into the videos!
@@patricktjackson fantastic! I've also heard that the Sierra Nevada Mountains are great for skiers. I'd like to go! Telemark skiing is probably not a very popular category of skiing in Japan, but I still find it fun, so I'm working hard to make videos about it. I think the snow in Japan, especially Hokkaido, is amazing, so if you have a chance, please take a look at the video of Japanese telemark skiers.
Nice! it's still snowing here in Tahoe! :) Which set-up do you like better, the 22design hammerhead or the NTN? just picked up a pair of skis with the hammerheads, I have been on G3 targa cables for foreever.
Wow! You're lucky! There's a lot of snow, right? We had rain yesterday. If I were you, I'd use that pair of skis that have hammerheads on them. To be honest, I just use the NTN system because I can buy it new, and I think the 75mm system has a more natural feel.If you want to use the NTN system, you have to spend quite a lot of money. .
@@chillwalk. That's what I like about the G3 targa cables, felt very natural, but tire of breaking them.
@@rainmaker3700 Those bindings don't seem to break easily. But it looks very heavy. Because that's how I felt when I held my friend's 22 Designs AXL binding.

Nice style! And happy to see Telemark skiing in Japan! 👍🎌🌏
thank you! I also think your style is very cool. I love the snow in Hokkaido, Japan. But It would be nice to do telemark skiing in Norway!
@@chillwalk. Thanks for the kind words! I started Telemark skiing in 2021 but I am very interested in learning so I watch a lot of UA-cam videos and ski a lot in the winter to get better. I think many of you who are from Japan and ski Telemark often have nice skiing technique and style, so it's great to see. Japanese athletes in ski jumping are also often the ones who get top scores for technique from the judges, so there must be something in your soul with good technique 😃 I looked up Hokkaido and see it's on an island in the north, is the snow light and dry or is it more moist and supportive? I see that there are several skiers from Europe and the US who travel to Japan because of the snow, so it must be special 😊 If you ever go to Norway to ski, there are many possibilities, but the best is perhaps free skiing in Lyngen (north) or on the west coast . If you are going to ski in a ski resort, I would perhaps recommend one of these; Narvikfjellet, Strandafjellet, Hemsedal, Voss ski resort, Myrkdalen, Trysil, Oppdal, Hafjell (olympic 1994), Kvitfjell (olympic 1994), Norefjell (olympic 1952) or Telemark's (region in Norway) best ski resort which is Gausta ski center. Possible vertical 1650m if it is enough snow all the way down to Rjukan (town next to Gaustatoppen) Norway skicenters cannot compare to the massive and large ski centers a little further south in Europe, in the Alps between Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy, but you probably already knew that ☺
@@Scarprotte Telemark skiing in Norway is an incredible experience for telemark skiers. Because Norway is the special birthplace of telemark skiing. By the way, Hokkaido is at about the same longitude as Canada, so the quality of the snow is perfect, not too hard, not too soft, and low humidity. Recently, the yen has been weak internationally, so I think Japan is a good deal for tourists from overseas, but domestically there is complete stagflation. Due to cost-push inflation, the cost of daily living has become quite high, and it is difficult to travel overseas because it requires a considerable amount of money. I've heard that prices are very high in Norway as well.
@@chillwalk. Yes, it's Sondre Norheim who started recreational skiing in the 1840s. Sondre was the first to use skis for play and fun. Before, skis were used for transport/movement/hunting on snow. Sondre also invented several features of the skis that we use today, for example cuved skis and that he reinforced the binding with a heel strap to make them more stable. I live a couple of hours away from Morgedal in Telemark county, which is the home of Sondre. Sounds like Hokkaido has dream snow. There are probably many factors that play a role in how the snow turns out, so Hokkaido is probably lucky with its location both in terms of longitude/latitude and location to the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan. Looking at the map, Hokkaido is a little further south but almost in line with the European Alps. There are slightly abnormal times now, but eventually both the currency and inflation will probably return to normal. We have had some inflation in Norway as well, much due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has pushed the price of electricity in Europe up 10x last year. Norway also has a small currency which often weakens against the USD and EUR when there are uncertain times, so we import inflation when we import goods. Good for the salmon farmers who sell salmon in NOK, for example to Japan :) Thanks to Japan for the invention of sushi which is very good. And good cars (Honda etc), electrical equipment and much much more!

Love the video's! I am hoping to go to Japan next year to telemark! Still snowing here in Lake Tahoe California, 15+ feet on the ground!
Thanks! Are you coming to Japan next year? That sounds fantastic! By the way, there is still a lot of snow in California, right? This season Japan is melting faster than ever before. We can usually ski until mid-May, but there's no snow around my house anymore. Unfortunately, the season is coming to an end early this year.
@@chillwalk. Yes California/Tahoe still has A Lot of snow!

Thank you! I want to improve my telemark skills.
As an alpine telemark skier, I am very interested in the new Rotefella Xplore system for downhill skiing. It is the most modern telemark binding but seems to offer a similar feel and function to the 75 gear but with a true free pivot mode for touring. Plus you can actually get the boots and gear new.
The new Rotefella Xplore system is of interest to me and my telemark skiing buddies. We need new boots and bindings, but they're not that expensive, so I'd like to buy them eventually.
Silky smooth.
This year, the snowfall in the Yubari region seems to be much higher than usual. The course conditions at Yubari Mount Racey Ski Resort are very good. So I can telemark ski well. Maybe.

Learned on Alico Blaze 2 buckle leather boots, Riva cable bindings, and random straight 200cm alpine skis. Sold the leathers when I bought plastic boots, and I kick myself every time I think about it! Wish I still had those boots to use as part of a light touring setup
I agree with you. I have checked them on the web. They had two buckles and seemed to have high skiing performance. After all, light tools are good, aren't they?
Haha, I started on leather boots and hickory ski's! LOL
Mstr.RainMaker! I prefer wooden skis to fiberglass ones!
I have been skiing on cables for 25 years, not sure I will ever change.
why might it change? Skiing with cable bindings is fun. Let's continue by all means.
Awesome! Do you know any good affordable places to stay there??
Actually, this place is near Niseko, so hotel prices are getting very expensive year by year. My apartment is close to Niseko, so I can easily go there but can't go there if I stay at a hotel. Big capitals such as China and Singapore have already bought cheap lodgings and turned them into luxurious condominiums.
@@chillwalk. That's too bad, that is common of any resort/ski area. :(

The name of the beautiful mountain seen in the back left is Mt. Yotei. With an altitude of 1,898m, it is also called Ezo Fuji because it resembles Mt. Fuji, the most famous mountain in Japan. (Ezo is the old name for northern Japan.) Why don't you try telemark skiing in Hokkaido? The scenery and the snow are wonderful!
@@chillwalk.Which ski area is this?
@@johnonetrillion This is Akaigawa Village.
I don't get it why people call this old-fashioned. If you want to go out skiing on your local hills and forests that may have flats and ups and not necessary the most perfect steep downhill for mountain skis - this is the only way to go.
Thank you for your feedback. First of all, I can understand the feeling that these things are not old for people who really need these tools even now. But they look a little old-fashioned to me, who doesn't know the days when there were only those tools. However, please know that I did not look down on them and challenged myself to know the old tools with respect.
