I found senesax to be the most annoying dragon - that hit box was just …no
Goty For me And most people who's played it.
Lol so true I had to take a walk because I felt something worth than sadness I felt depression.. if a game can make you feel that then it is a masterpiece
I agree the emotion from this game is insane, its definitely my GoTY as well
This fight made me late for work. Totally worth it.
The reference to FFXIV with Bahamut at the end there was absolutely stunning as well
Shoutout to the weirdo talking about geopolitics the whole stream, you a real one
I'm so happy you did the side quests! Fantastic game! I cried so much during the ending.
The most important side quests are "Priceless" along with "A Tail to Tell" Both played will explain the meaning of the dawn seen end game and the book, written by cid rosfield.
written by Joshua, no Cid.
@@ivanleon6164 astonishing indeed of your perspective on how that conversation went. "when the day comes, I'l certainly have a lot to write about" is what clive replied to Haprocrates after his encouragement to pick up a pen. Harpocrates is all-knowing as the game claims, choosing to delve in the intimacy side of pheonix and ifrit(older brother), and other eikons. I believe endings should be what the players choose for themselves as it's the current trend for recent games; completing all the necessary will give you the true ending. In Priceless, Japanese language; Jill likens Clive as the dawn who will always come for her without a doubt, said that's the part she likes about him and she confessed to him. Clive who loves his brother more than cid, should probably have less than 50% chance that he would honor his brother's legacy. But, endings are arbitrary nowadays, it's a gamer's pick.
I’ve never seen an ending so amazing in a video game in all my life. Ever. Thank you Square Enix.
This ending ripped my heart out it's bittersweet but there's a lot of questions How did Clive make it to the beach, Leviathan? Who exactly wrote the book Clive, Joshua (even tho he died), the hidden Think Clive passed out and if so does he make it back to Jill? On the replay obelisk there are 16 symbols but only 8 eidolons does that mean there's 8 others out there Diablos would be dope for the other dark
in the last sidequest, the scholar gaves a feather to Clive and tell him he is good at writing, and tells him to write once all is finished, i consider that the biggest clue, but who knows.
I mean Josh could've finished the book before the final fight
My reasons on why I think Clive is alive: 1- The Fading and faded magic of the world. (Reason why the Metia faded and not from Jill's wish) or The Metia being a messenger 2- The Narration from Clive at the beginning and end. The ending phrase being "and thus did our journey end" which is Clive in the future reflecting on all of the events in the game/book 2- The book being called "Final Fantasy" which only Clive would've known (other than Ultima who died). 4- Clive being the only character with enough knowledge to complete the "Final Fantasy" book; with him talking about all of the events in the game/book. 5- Clive taking on Cid's name to honor him. (The Phoenix's powers can't bring people back to life.) 6- Tomes' mention to Clive to write a book when he lays down his sword. Clive's left hand stopped at the wrist due to the immense power he used with that hand to destroy the Origin Crystal. 7- Clive's promise to Jill. 8- Joshua's statement that everybody puts faith in Clive, including Jill's faith for Clive's safe return. (We all know of Clive's will.) 8- The sunrise sidequest with Jill saying Clive would always come back to her once she saw the sunrise. No matter how bad the night was before. 9- The smile, knowledge, and lack of tears after seeing the sunrise near the end of the campaign. 10- The fact that FF games have always had symbolism and additional clues in sidequest. The developers put all of these things in for a reason. Never by coincidence and there's just way too much for the slightest chance of a coincidence anyways.
Clive survived. The only reason the book at the end of the story is called Final Fantasy is because he knows the true meaning of it. Ultima's plan was the Final Fantasy that can never be attained again we live in the real world now
That said I did believe that Clive died because the symbolism leads you to think that very easily, same reason Jill came to the conclusion at first
Ending was so emotional. I couldn't hold my tears.
Think it’s obvious that Clive eventually died maybe not right away but I think his death is inevitable after the curse starting to take hold
why clive didnt try to revive dion too?his body is somewhere there and what hes shooting laser at the sky....?
i hate unclear ending like this...makes my head hurt thinking about it
The Metia fading could of easily of been the magic fading from the world. I think Clive lived. Symbolism is ALWAYS important in FF Games. People who played the sidequest will understand the story far better than anyone else.
I played the sidequests and I believe he's dead but I wouldn't be surprised if he somehow survived
Either that or Jills wish was granted. Lots of the side quests foreshadow that he lives once you see the ending
I did them too and I believe he died :-( Metia couldn’t grant her wish this time and thus faded
@@punchykarma6685 Agreed. The narration from Clive at the beginning and end points of the story was just chapters in Clive's book; and the ending narration sounded like Clive's reflection on all of the events in the story "And thus did our Journey end" which means he would of had to survive if he was talking about their events in the future. Mix that in with the Title of the book "Final Fantasy" which only Clive would of known (other than Ultima who died), foreshadowing of Clive being a writer, Clive taking Cid's name to honor him, the Sunrise scene that the developers put in on purpose and the fact that Clive just looked like he passed out. All of that is very convincing that Clive is still alive.
Ive always thought of metia is clive and jill is the moon since she refers to clive as her star. The moment metia faded i interpreted it as clive just died, that’s why jill also started crying when she saw the red star fade. But yoshi p i think did say the ending is up to the players whatever the interpretation we come up with, all are true.
anyone thinking clive is not dead and joshua is dead is coping... im sorry lol. He brought him back using raise.... the same power ultima was going to use to bring his kind back to life along with reforming the world. The game even calls out the spell "raise" in one of the tome cards.
not sure if you knew this but the VA for Clive (Ben Starr), his father died during the production process of FFXVI and you can really hear the pain in his voice for Clive when dealing with the death of his brother. It sounds real because most likely it was real as he was dealing with his father's death.
i enjoyed watching your playthrough. thanks for that
The theory is Clive lived and made it back to Jill and I low key support it because I feel like every detail in dialogue had a purpose like Joshua with the carrots that comes back around wayyyy later in game the theory is Clive wrote that book under Joshua’s name and the reason why a lot of us think that is because like 3 different times throughout the game they mention Clive had a thing for books and fairytales and play’s remember the cutscene when they were looking at the giant pit in the ground and they was talking about how it happened and then Clive brought up how he always thought gods battling it out was always cool too him and Jill says he had his room filled with fairytale books or something like that as a kid and later on in a side quest Clive expresses how he would like to write a book after it’s all over with also like we didn’t see him fully turn do dust there are people that can live with 90% of their body being turned to stone I remember in the infirmary there was a guy who’s whole body was stone except for his mouth nose and eyes and he was still very much alive in pain (so much so they “put him to sleep”) but he lived up until that point so Clive could very well live with his hand being stone also there are some symbolism we can also throw into this theory liked example Jill mentions whenever the sun rises she knows Clive will come back to her and in that last scene we see the sun rises and people also said that maybe the red star burning out wasn’t his death but meant her wish was granted and he was on his way home NOW in the very very end we see that book people say gav wrote it or jote wrote it and in my opinion both of those don’t make sense first off gav and Clive was TIGHT they was boys gav would of most likely put Clive’s name on the cover instead of Joshua I don’t even think they talked to each other like that so that disqualify gav from writing it now as for jote how would she have had Clive’s full story she would of only saw things from Joshua pov not Clive how did she know Clive was a branded for an imperial army how did she know that Clive was hunting shivas dominant how did she know Clive’s adventure with cid while Jill was recovering she wouldn’t it’s just not possible now assuming the story in that book is the exact same story we played through in the game who is narrating the story from start to finish CLIVE because it’s Clive’s story he wrote it those kids at the end are probably his and Jill’s descendants I mean how on the nose can they be they look like a splitting image of Clive and Joshua and they even got a puppy in there if that didn’t make it any more obvious idk this^^ seems more likely because from what I see in this game as their evil mother would say “all in its right place” everything was put there for a reason it wasn’t a coincidence that we got all this information on Clive fascination with books just like with Joshua and the carrots at first I thought it was just tmi but then I saw the scene when we find the plate and I saw the carrots were push to the side they are telling us the end without telling us the ending I think the devs even said something like that the ending isn’t what it may seem at first and there is stuff sprinkled throughout the game that will help u come to your own conclusion I believe Clive was alive he passed out due to exhaustion he lost his left hand found his way to Jill settled down wrote his book and had some kids he is the only person we know who expressed interest in books and who loved Joshua most of all it only makes sense he wrote it Joshua also can not be alive because the Phoenix power only heals flesh it can not prevent death so he couldn’t have wrote it either
Joshua can be alive. Why does everyone keep saying this... The game literally explains how with ultima's power, clive as a vessel, and an abundance of aether, the spell "raise" is possible. The flame isnt phoenix you see, its the power in clive manifesting as evident by the fact he uses that same flame to rewrite the world and undo magic
@@juanroman71 Joshua definitely looked a lot more dead than Clive, especially since Clive also escaped the crumbling city. Also, in the side quest "Priceless", Jill says "...that no matter how dark the night, dawn will always come, that you will always come for me". Ties up perfectly with the ending of her smiling at the sunrise.
@@Leonhart_93 ah so someone unconscious is dead, got it. And I'm sorry but the whole dawn comment puts you at point A, you still need to reach Z with more than just that one observation. She could easily be remembering that comment and the significance it holds for her or she could be seeing Joshua return. I'm sorry but Joshua is minimally alive. Hence his name on the book... And please don't be one of these weirdos saying Clive took his name... He wouldn't take his brother's name... He would have written the book in memory of his brother at best and it didn't say in memory of...
@@juanroman71 Joshua was ultra-dead for quite a bit before his body got healed, unless Clive somehow got the ability to bring the dead back which I kinda doubt. But Clive is the narrator of the story, you can hear his lines in the beginning and ending, which clearly implies that he is the one that wrote the book. And several times throughout the game there are references of him becoming a writer in the future. Also, Joshua couldn't have possibly known everything that went down to write that book.
@@Leonhart_93 you dont think he gained the power to bring him back? Well someone didnt pay close attention to the game's lore... go read some of the lore cards and you will find out otherwise. As for the book: 1) we dont know what is in the book so you cant say Joshua could not have written it, 2) Joshua could have had help from others who met Clive on his journey, 3) along with reviving him, clive could have transferred memories to Joshua.
great watch !!...however, you do own a brain ..whatever that means...otherwise you wouldn't be thinking of owning a brain in the first place...just thought id let you know. "i dont think ive ever played a game where i need to lay down and have a cigarette" ...well perhaps you should play more games recommendation--- half-life 1 and 2 -Mental gear solid 1,2,4---this will kill you! my thoughts on final fantasy XVI ...nothing perfect..here we go!! the good - cinematic good graphics quite good characters good gameplay they've actually included real English voices from different parts of England ..i like that ..not just your typical queen talk! the bad - #its too easy ..its like the bad characters want you to win ! the dialogue is meh! quite cringe sometimes..its like eating a hudge packet of outdated cheese theres too much shit happening on screen ..its hard to tell what your doing!!! its a short game ...nothing much to do after completion ... some of the villain characters look over designed ..looks too much...ends up been just mmishmash!!
for me its the corny cringe from final fantasy that makes it so good. i think the fetch quests were a bit too much at some points but overall it was one of the best final fantasys i have ever played. the scene where jill gives clive his powers even tops the FF X scene with tidus and yuna kissing
@@lllOnSlAuGhTlll well aren't you a special one. i cant remember that part. what would you give it out of ten?
@@thomasjackson5204 9.5/10. GOTY for me.
Poor Jill
If Clive didn’t make it then yeah. But personally I think they’ll see each other again.
@@JurzGarzI hope they keep it tragic. Makes the most sense and is the best ending.
I am really conflicted on this ending, to be quite honest. It did not make me cry, but I did get a deep, sinking feeling... It was a powerful end to a damn good game. Part of the conflict, however, is that I, generally speaking, don't much care for ambiguous endings. I beat the game a few days back and the ending, and the emotions it elicited out of me, have been marinating. I feel like I've seen plenty of people argue back and forth on whether or not Clive lives or dies. To me, it feels like there's enough here that it could go either way... Some of the doubt with whether or not he lives or dies also comes from my awareness of the developer. I've been playing FFXIV for nearly a decade now, and if you know CBU3, you know X or Y ain't dead until they show yo the body (and hell, sometimes even then it comes into question... lol). I think the ending was too short... It's purely a selfish request of me, but I do wish we would've gotten a sort of "where are they now" type of ending, kinda like how FFXII did. It's evident from the after-credits scene that the world is apparently doing well enough without magic, and that's a reassurance, but honestly I do not care for two random kids... I care about the characters I met on this journey. Goetz, Gav, Mid, Vivian, Tarja, Jill, of course... Honestly I didn't cry but came damn close to, haha. Broke my heart to see Jill cry like that, especially after the promise of Clive's return, which may or may not go unbroken. I really rather liked their relationship. It felt organic, which is why the ending hit all the harder. Clive potentially dies at a point where their love for each other was truly blossoming. Welp... that's part of what makes it depressing. I think the ending reminded me a bit of FFXV's, except the "starcrossed lovers" in that game were seemingly "together in death", so that softened the blow (plus I felt like Noctis and Lunafreya's relationship was tenuous at best, so I didn't really feel much about them to begin with). All in all, I really enjoyed the game. The combat was fun, and the story was engaging. As an aside, they did a damn good job at making Ifrit cool, haha. It's true that for a good number of games he'd been downplayed since he's among the first summons you ever encounter, but they put him center stage here and it worked. I think I'll come back to replay the game at some point. It's a bit of a long game, and I usually don't replay long games like these, but I very much enjoyed the world, characters, and story, so I absolutely wouldn't mind revisiting Valisthea in the future. I don't know if they'll release DLC for it (though I've heard there's a possibility, maybe Leviathan-related DLC?) since Yoshi-p said they wanted to deliver a complete package, and welp, it sure did feel that way. Whatever they end up doing, I'll be there for it. Anyways, this has gone too long so I'll just say I'm glad you enjoyed it, Watts.
If they didn't have such a good relationship and romance I wouldn't have cared as much for the ending, like I didn't mind it much in FFXV. But here it's not just about him, it's extremely sad thinking how Jill has to live alone without him.
I also do not like how they chose to end it. After spending so much time seeing these characters go through so much sacrifice and trauma I wanted them to have some joy. I didn't cry, the ending just made me feel hollow.
Have you done all the side quests? Especially the ones before you go face Ultima?
@@sailormoon7952 for me, I did everything but still did not like the choice for the ending. I get that there are vague threads of hope from them, but I wish it wasn't ambiguous. I'm not the OP for this thread though, so I can't speak for the points the initial commenter made. Just wanted to say that at least one person exists that did everything and still disliked the ending.
Pretty sure Clive survived too much indicates this. They didnt give us all those sidequests and symbols at the end for nothing. The "final fantasy" book is the main kicker here. Clive said "the only fantasy here is yours and you will be its final witness" to Ultima so pretty sure that means Clive lived. Plus Joshua wasnt even on the beach with Clive.
It was a beautiful story
I haven’t fallen in love with a ff story this much since 4….
idk why JP said the story was shit..like wtf
@@Ruteru01Because the Japanese sentence dialogue has deleted a lot of content in order to match the English mouth type, resulting in two completely different versions of the experience of Asian players and American players.
@@lin_en912 which also happens with FFXIV, but I think the problem lies in the dark fantasy type of story. A lot of JP says its "too dark" or "too adult" for me and less "fantasy"
@@Ruteru01Naoki Yoshida said that he can’t satisfy everyone, so as a final fantasy fan, I don‘t care what they think. Even if FFXVI’s advantages and disadvantages are obvious, I still think it‘s a good game.
I felt this for sure I ugly cried lmao was the first game that's ever made me cry
Pretty sure Clive wrote the book. The beginning and ending narrations were by him. He was the one to coin the "Final Fantasy" phrase with Ultima being the only other being near him. Plus the quest with Tomes giving him his quil and him telling Clive he should put his sword down when everything is over and write a book. Remember, the phoenix cant bring people back from the dead, only repair the damaged body. Clive used Joshua's name as an alias like he did Cid when completing the book so he would never be forgotten. Only Clives left hand petrified. It stoped at the wrist. It looked more like he passed out due to exhaustion from the event than succumbing to death. Metia is a messenger. Messengers need to leave to pass along a massage. It fading could be it granting Jills wish. This is what I tell myself to feel better. Hopefully it helps. 😅
I think the story is more impactful and even better if we accept and acknowledge that he died beautifully on the beach :) jote and gav could have handled the book. Besides, that after credits scene is so far into the future that it’s considered a fairy tail. Safe to assume at least a thousand years later
So the red dot is Metia
lol Metia star'ss function isn't like that. The Active time lore text that Metia is a messenger, that's why it fading at the end means it can no longer grant wishes. That's why Jill cried. If it's function is to pass the message like that, won't the devs animate Jill smiling or happy instead? LOL because you are wrong, re-read the ATL one more time. Also how in the hell he survived absorbing a god? Because the curse still active even if they destroyed the origin. Clive sacrificing his life makes more sense even though I also want a happy ending. He always thinks of saving others and not saving himself.
@@aileene-ez9gx I stand by what I said, and I'm not changing it for anyone. Sorry. Lol
@@trollogic1505 I don't care for impact, f*ck that. I just don't want to imagine Jill living a lifetime of loneliness.
